buckifan- that's pretty funny about the apron. Very clever. Olivia has a "Pumpkin Trot" Thursday. They run 3/4 a mile. Interesting that you guys do that too. I wonder if it's a national thing for fitness? It sounds like you go all out for Halloween, that's fun. have a great party! Did I tell you Olivia is going to be Elle from Legally Blond this year? Too cute!

Kristin- Totaly agree with the Terri Hatcher statement. I just said the same thing last night. I think Eva looked really skinny too. I'm 5'7" and am a size 0/2 and I don't look nearly as thin as they do. As far as Gray's Anatomy I do think he is going to end up with Meredith. They will toy with he and his wife's relationship but will ultimately do what the fans really want and we want to see him and Meredith. How hot did he get?! Remember Can't Buy me Love? I love that movie!

Recipes:

Halloweeen Party Mix
1 pkg (11 oz) pretzels
1 pkg (10-1/2 oz) miniature Ritz peanut butter crackers
1 cup honey roasted peanuts
1 cup of sugar
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup light corn syrup
2 tablespoons vanilla extract
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 package (10 oz) M&M's
1 pkg (18-1/2 oz) of candy corn

In a large bowl, combine the pretzels, crackers and peanuts. In a large saucepan, combine sugar, butter and corn syruo. Bring to a boil over medium heat; boil for 5 minutes. Remove from the heat; stir in vanilla and baking soda(mixture will foam). Pour over pretzel mixture and stir until coated. Pour into a greased 15-in. X 10in. 1 in. baking pan. Bake at 250 for 45 mins stirring every 15 mins. Break apart while warm. Toss with M&M's and candy corn. Cool completely. Store in air tight container.

Hot Crab Dip
1 lb of fresh crab meat
1 (8oz) pkg cream cheese softened
1/2 cup sour cream
2 Tbsp. miracle whip
1 Tbsp lemon juice
1 1/4 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
1/2 tsp. dry mustard
pinch of garlic salt
thin shredded cheddar cheese
1 tsp milk
In large bowl mix crea cheese, sour cream, miracle whip, lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, garlic salt until smooth. Add milk. Stir in 1/4 cup shredded cheddar cheese. Fold in crab meat. Pour into greased 1 quart casserole dish. Top with cheese. Bake at 325 until mixture is bubbly, about 30 mins. Serve with Ritz crackers.

I wish I could make that Halloween mix for the party, but I've got one boy coming that has a severe peanut allergy. It's been tough coming up with snacks without nuts or even trace amounts of nuts.

You may have mentioned your daughter going as Elle before, but I can't recall. I bet she will look adorable. Is she wearing the pink suit? Is your pug going as Bruiser?

Lilly couldn't behave well enough to go out for Halloween. She has no fear of streets or cars and doesn't get the impending danger. When we first got her, Olivia was in first grade waiting for the bus and said she just saw a dog that looked just like Lilly running down our street (main road, very busy) chasing the SCHOOL BUS!! Lilly got out the back door and WAS chasing that huge bus down the street. I came flying out of the house like a nut screaming for that crazy dog. Luckily, a woman stopped her car and Lilly jumped up into her seat. Needless to say we need to watch her very carefully. :pug:

Yes, Olivia has the full pink suit with the pill hat and pearls and a stuffed Bruiser she got when the 2nd movie came out. Olivia is a curly brunette (Craig has dark hair, Cameron DS7 and I have blond hair) so she is wearing a long blond wig. She looks so funny! I'm bummed you can't use that recipe. I know what you mean about the allergies. This is a perfect mix for the kids at school but they can't have peanuts any where near some classrooms. I just don't remember anyone ever having these allergies when I was in school.

kritter,
You're welcome for the soup recipe. I'm so glad you enjoyed it. It's on my list of things to make this week also. I've got a busy week, though. Getting ready for our party Sat night. Started decorating the house last night. I already had my fall stuff up, but now I'm adding Halloween decorations. I must admit it's looking great. I tend to go a little overboard, but that's what's fun for me! The kids have Halloween parties at school on Friday, and my son is participating in the "pumkin run" (basically just a one mile race) Friday morning. And I'm signed up to bring sandwiches for Kylie's class. I'm so glad our beggar's night isn't until Monday!

Speaking of Star Wars....I must admit, I didn't give a hoot about episodes 1-3 when they first announced they were coming out (some 6-7 years ago). But my dh and ds (he was like 4 at the time) got so excited about it, and "educated" me on the story line in the process. We watched episodes 4-6 together, prior to episode 1's release, and I did end up enjoying it. By the time Episodes 2 & 3 came out, I was (nearly) as excited as they were. The third one was my favorite also. We own all but episode 3, and I'm sure that will join our collection asap. The same exact thing happened with the Harry Potter movies. Dh has read all of them, ds read some, and they are both HUGE fans. Me again....didn't give a hoot, but they sucked me in, and mow I love them too! It surprised me, because I'm generally a chick flick (like Legally Blonde.....don't laugh, I love those movies) or, I like action/suspense movies (I also loved American Treasure and Saharra).

One more comment about Star Wars.....I think this is so funny. A mother from school, who has 3 boys--all Star Wars fanatics, in fact she and her husband are also--told me her entire family is going to dress up as Star Wars characters for Halloween. Well, she has a fabulous sense of humor, so to put a "spin" on her costume, she is going as "Queen Mommy-dala" She'll of course look like a version of "Queen Amidala" but she's going to add an apron, maybe some rollers in her huge hair! LOVE IT!

Thanks again for the recipe we finished the soup off tonight...so nice when you can try a new recipe....

Love the story about queen mommy dala that is too funny ... my dh will love that one....
The girls watched it again tonight when he got home and can not wait for the next one to come out on dvd this week..But dh thinks it wil be a bit scary for them to watch...I do not know all I know is that I am not going to watch it at alll....they can all talk star wars on the cruise...he he...

Jen i forgot to mention to buck that I liked the apron thing as well thanks...

I had a us weekly magazine and they said all about different actresses weights etc..said that terri hatcher is five seven and only 110 pounds looks much skinner than that..I am almost five eleven and weigh 115-120 and do not look like they do..thought the camera added weight to you...not to them....they said in the magazine that she has gained weight totally disagree with that....she must be a negative zero for clothes....Eva is preg.. when is she going to be gaining any weight...
As for Ga I am hoping it is merideth but not thiking it will be....and interesting about her mother and the chief of staff uh???

Can not wait to make your halloween mix and will be making the crab dip this weekend,..thanks so much for the recipes..guess Ineed to put some up there for all of you your all making me look sooo bad.....
I will be gaining weight just thinking about these recipes....

Jen,
Oh my gosh that is scary about lilly and all...

Hey our thread is doing well we are almost at 300 posts...YIPEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Kritter,
Isn't it funny how you can create a mental image of someone without meeting them? I totally pictured you as a "shorter", petite, blonde. I was surprised when you said you're 5'11".

I'm gonna search the web now for a recipe for slime.....I saw it yesterday, and bought all of the ingredients today. It calls for Borax, glue, water, and food coloring (green). We are going to play "pass the slime" at the party Sat. It's played just like "hot potato", but with slime. I think the kids will LOVE that. We are also playing Halloween Bingo, and "escape the web". The web game is my own creation. All of the kids join hands in a circle (standing). I spray-painted a hula hoop black, and attached web all over it. The object is to get thru the web without letting go of your neighbor's hands and pass it on to the next person. I'll have music playing, and whoever is in the web when music stops is eliminated (just like hot potato, also). Should be fun.

I'm only 5'2 1/2"....and that 1/2" is critical! I guess it was wishful thinking on my part.....misery loves company right? I've always wished I could be at least 5'5", but I doubt that'll happen at this point in life. I think I'm done growing (vertically, anyway!).

Hi,

Oh gosh I am full I just finished off the lasdt of the soup..mmmmmm...thanks again..
I hear you I do that all of the time with people...I know I am the tallest one in this household as of right now..Dh is short...He hates it if I wear heels..makes him look even littler..I wish I was i was shorter it is hard to find pants, etc...always need the long length..guess we are never happy with what we have...since I was sick this winter I lost a ton more weight and am having to buy new clothes that fit...my mother is always holloaring that I am too skinny but it is due to the surgery and they told me my body would be in "shock" and my upper body is samller now since they took out twenty percent of the lung soo it is weird knowing that I lost weight since they took a piece out of me,,,

Sounds like you have some fun activities planned..If you need another one when I was teaching I used to read this story and then have the kids touch various things while reading for instance when it said eyeballs int he story the closed there eyes and touched a bowl full of cold grapes..if you want the story I can find it is cool but scary..the slim is fun we did that in school but can be messy..
jsut made a pumpkin pie for the twins got to run and clean up the kitchen talk to you soon,
kristin

buckifan- you are very clever. I am so bad at children's parties. I always had the kids somewhere where there were lots of things to do already planned out. I wish I was more creative. I make things elaborate by going to the ends of the earth to get the best cake ( my favorite thing...I drive 50 mins to a bakery for thier cakes) and the best catering but put it all together myself and I would fail miserably. Slime is a great idea! I know that my kids would love it. They LOVED making Flubber on the cruise.

Kristin- there is no way she is 110 lbs. I am 5'7" and 108lbs(going up because it's fall and all I do is bake yummy snacks!) and I swear I am not emaciated like her. The camera does add 10 lbs. I would hate to see her in person...scary! How's this weather? It is so bad here. There are power outages everywhere. Streets are flooded. I had to sub for first grade (today is a 1/2 day :) ) the kids freaked when the power went out. I'm glad to be home again I have a sore throat. Do you read the main DCL page? So many interesting topics, it's fun to look at. 3 more days and we'll be exacly one year out from the day we sail  !!

Can you believe we just got our power back. It went out at 3:30!! I am FREEZING and tired from sitting in candle light with two restless children. We ordered Dominos, at least I didn't have to cook! Talk to you later.
Jen

Jen,
Oh my gosh that is terrible hope it stays on now..But pizza was good for dinner though....Hope you all are warm now...talk to you tomorrow...

I hate when the power goes out it makes for really cranky kids...

Hello everyone...

... we're back from Boston. Landed this morning - then stopped for an Indian Buffett on the way home.... yum. Except, they applied our 2 for one lunch buffett coupon on the childs' portion - instead of an adult like last time. We didn't feel much like making an issue of it since we ate so much (I almost could have used the stroller for MYSELF to make it back to the car).

Oh well... I skimmed the past few postings and it seems we're chatting about Holloween parties an heights and sizes. Well...

... we're hosting a holloween dinner party this saturday at our community club house. We have DVD + projector shooting a movie to semi-occupy the kids while we serve prime rib and dungeness crab as the main entree. Oh, it's a costume party for the kids (of course) and a costume optional thing for the adults. I'm going as Jafar... I got a costume from Disney on Ebay. I still need to fabricate a jafar staff. I was going to put a can of silly string atop a staff - and rig a wire to triger it from a position a foot below the top - and on top I was going to make a cobra head out of masking tape and then spray paint the shibang gold. Then glue on plastic half rubies for eyes. It would "spit" sily string at the pull of my trigger wire fro the mouth if I do it right.

Aside from that - my spouse was going to be a pirate matching our daughter. Ok... gotta run... I'll chat more later. :flower:

Welcome back..we have missed you..
we have been talking about sizes basically from the desperate housewives that is how it all started....

sounds like you should have a balst at the halloween party that you are hosting well helping out with...
wish I could come sounds like you are going to have some great food there....what are you cooking...
you must have jet lag from being in boston how are the kids when you fly so far...far trip for such a short while,..hope you had a great time at least...
seems like we are all ready for halloween... and when it comes then we will have less time till we all cruise next year...

Captain,
sounds like a cool costume. You should def include the silly string idea. I'm certain it would be a big hit. My cousin's boyfriend dressed all in blue one year, and attached clumps of cotton balls to his clothes, and cotton balls all over his head. He held a spray bottle full of water in his pocket, and every time someone asked what he was he said "I'm partly cloudy with a chance of showers", and gave them a squirt. He was a huge hit!

Oh, and I also wanted to tell you.....I went to Kroger yesterday (grocery store if you're not familiar), and they had a collector's set of Star Wars PEZ dispensers. They had like 10 different characters in all, packaged together. Have you ever been to FAO Sweets in Chicago? It's the same company as FAO Schwartz (toy store).....but a candy store. Anyway, they have a whole PEZ section....kinda need.

GHoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooool Evening!!

The phantom GHost has come around
To leave you some goodies I see you have found.
If you do not with this curse to fall
Continue this greeting, this ghostly call..

First post this ghost where it can be see
On a dorr or window until Halloween.
Then no other ghost will visit again
Be sure to participatem if you don't it's a sin.

make two treats, two ghosts, two notes that's the gist
Take them to two neighbors who may have been missed.
Don't let them see you, be sneaky no doubt.
Check back to be sure that they put their ghost out.

Next you have only one day to act so be fast!!
Leave treats at homes where no ghost has passed.
Deliver after dark when there's barely a light.
Ring the doorbell and run, then stay out of sight!!

And last but not least, come join in the season.
don't worry, be happy you need no good reason,
Be scarey, have fun, and try not to be seen.
And share in the spirits of this Halloween!!

thougth you might lie to do this in your
neighborhood...it is fun my kids loved getting it
tonight..

Here is a different version tooo:

You Have Been SPOOKED!

Halloween will soon be here.
A friend of yours has brought some cheer.

The spooks are after things to do.
This one wants to play with YOU!

From this very witching hour,
Just hang it up and watch its ‘power’.

The treats that came are yours to keep.
Don’t eat them all before you sleep!

The ‘power’ comes when friends like you
Will copy this and SPOOK someone too!

Don’t forget a nifty treat
Like something cute or something sweet.

Please join the fun. Let’s all get with it.
And spread some SPOOKS and fun

Do not be surprised if you get spooked on next years cruise you 'd better be prepared to move it along!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Kritter.....we were spooked twice last night! Once before we left for dinner, and once when we got home. Didn't have a chance to put the ghost up in the window, so we got it twice. That has been going around our neighborhood for years also, and my kids get so excited about it. Delivering the goodies is the best part! That would be really fun to do on the cruise, as it would be the last thing the kids would be expecting!

I watched the new trailer for Narnia, The Lion the Witch & the Wardrobe on the web today. It will be released Dec 9th, and looks really good. My ds will LOVE it. The read the entire series of Narnia a few years ago, & I'm sure we'll be there on opening night to see that movie.

I think it would be a blast to spook the kids on halloween...on the cruise that is...ahead of time we can all exchange state room numbers..then once of us can start it and we can leave the ghosts taped to the doors..it will be fun and if we know ahead of time then everyone can bring stuff with them onto the cruise...

I would like to see that movie and I think the kids will really like it as well..where did you see the trailer on the web...??
