The whole thing brings back many memories of Buffet concerts :dance3: and being young. I can say that I have seen most of my husbands friends wearing skirts and coconut bras...........just never him! Oh to be so young again. Back to reality in that I went to my 20th high school reunion last night (and am still hungover 24 hours later) wow things have changed.

Bucki........I do remember Pretty Pretty Princess from when our daughter was small! She is getting her braces off next week and painted her nails black today.........krap, just one more reminder of days gone by! :confused3

Buffet? What's that? :thumbsup2

What High School did you attend? I have my 20th reunion coming up (in Toledo) in September. I haven't been able to go to a reunion yet, and I'm not sure what to expect...(having not stayed in touch with hardly anyone!!!) We had a class of about 350, and I only stay in touch with 3 girlfriends.

Hope everyone is having a nice weekend.....

Did you ever come to Ohio for the Buckeye Lake days? Wow the stories that I won't tell! I've got a good story for you JB related and these boards....remind me on the cruise.

Bucki.....my husband and I were H.S. sweethearts and we graduated from DeSales.

Have a great day everyone.

Ohio? Not that I recall. But then again, I'm not exactly sure where I was after a couple of JB shows... I will definitely remind you to tell the story! :drinking1

Hope everyone had a great weekend...Five more days and we off to a weeks vacation at the beach....

Thanks for the words of welcome.

Thanks for the intel on St. Thomas being crowded.

Hi everyone! Hope you all had a nice weekend. Very busy here! The summer just seems to be flying by! That's ok though, just gets us closer to cruise time!

Just wanted to mention that while Jacob was in the hospital and Kristin was away, there seems to have been a few e-mails regarding the cruise website that were misplaced. If you sent either Kristin or I an e-mail in the past 2-3 weeks and did not receive an e-vite to the website, please resend your information. I am sorry, but things were very hectic for both of us. We remember getting a few e-mails, but can not seem to find them. We certainly do not want anyone to get left out! Sorry!

So, Do we want to offically make a group get together for high tea? What about the men, the beer tasting? Do we want to make the dis meet a lau theme? Let Kristin or I know so we can get it set up on the website!

Did I say :welcome: :welcome:

All the ships in St. Thomas caught me a little off guard. From what I've read, it's not uncommon to have that many ships in port during the high season. But I didn't think that our trip would be considered the high season. There are a couple of implications to this. I fully expected that we would be docked at Havensight, but with that many ships in port, we stand a chance of being docked at Crown Bay instead. I think I read that HAL ships usually use Crown Bay and there are 2 of them, so that leaves a little better chance that we'll be in Havensight. I don't know that Havensight is better or worse, but it's what I know from our previous trip!

I guess we'll just have to plan around the crowds a little bit. Most of the tours seem to hit beaches after shopping or a tour, so reversing that order might help with the crowds a little bit. I'm sure the more popular areas are going to take the brunt of the load, too. Most cruisers aren't DISers (read excessive planners) and will just do the mainstream stuff. It might be a good time to explore off the beaten track... I'm glad I'm not a shopper! We'll also need to plan a little extra getting-around time with that many ships in town.

So, how is Jacob doing? Did I miss the update?

Are only men allowed at the beer tasting?

I don't think we have time to have a themed dis meet on Saturday. It will be hectic enough just getting on-board and to the DIS meet and then back to our cabins to grab our gear for the lifeboat drill. And I'm NOT going to the drill in grass skirt (those things get itchy!) :rotfl2:

82 days of anticipation on the wall, 82 days of deliberation, you take one down, pass it around....

I am thinking tea for the women and beer tasting for the men???? But hey, I guess we could do two seperate get togethers where both sexes are welcome. It's up to you all.

I see your point about the time. I think we will only have a little more than a half hour. Maybe everyone could dress up for for the sail away party? Oh well it was just an idea.

Jacob is doing much better! He is eating and drinking well. His voice is still not normal, but the dr said it should get back to normal soon. We have another follow up appt. Wed.

Heather,
I am definetly having tea with Melissa at 3:00 on October 30th. I hope we have many Ladies join us!!! Glad to hear that Jacob is doing good.

Rick and I went to the beach for a few hours yesterday and had a great time. :sunny: :sunny:

Hope Everyone had a great weekend.

This week the kids have Vacation Bible School everyday, next week is Kylie's soccer camp, then school starts the week after that! My how the summer has flown by!

I will meet with Drew & Kylie's teachers right before they start back, and have the dreaded "I'm taking the kids out of school for 6 days" conversation. They are usually pretty good about it, but now that Drew is getting older, I feel like this may be the last vaca during the school year. Does anyone else have problems with this?

Deena,

I do not have problems with school since my kids are not in school yet. But i have anticipated what things will be like when they are...What grades are your kids in again??
As a former teacher I really think you need to emphasize to the school that this is your"family" time. I think that this outweighs all else...I would ask for the work in advance if they can provide it and have the kids read while they are away and would not worry about. Family memories are soo important..

We are going through the same thing with Timmy this year. I am really dreading it since this will be his first year in middle school. We choose this cruise specificly because he will only miss 5 days. Due to some teacher confences and election day, we will be able to stay a few extra days at WDW after the cruise. I plan on letting his teachers know. This really is the only time of year that works well for Tim to take off. In the past his teachers have always been good about giving him his work ahead of time. This year might be a little different since he will have 7 different teachers. I also tell his teachers how much he will learn about other cultures, other currency, and using skills like following the route the ship takes on a map. If you think about it, the trip can be very educational! Even a day at Epcot is educational! Worst case, Timmy will have a lot of work to make up when we get home.

Our Schools started yesterday. My Sister is an elementary Teacher and she had to start last Tuesday. This is the earliest that the Kids have gone back. One good thing they will have more time off during the Holiday's.

Hello Everyone :)

Deanna...taking the kids out of school is highly frowned upon by administration, however, it seems like the teachers' don't really mind. They cacth that this is life; when a great thing comes your way you need to jump on it! A Disney cruise (or any time you have a chance to take your children to another part of the world) is definitly a GOOD THING!!

I hardly get any computer time because dear miss Olivia is now OBSESSED with Webkinz . It is driving me crazy, she can link all of her friends who have these little stuffed animals (I like to call them dust collectors) together so they can play from seperate places. Good in concept BAD for parents with one computer.

I know I've said this at least 100 times BUT when do you think they will have the schdule for Halloween? It is a holiday cruise (did you know Halloween is the second most celebrated holiday) I'd think they would give it some thought due to the conflict of pirate night falling on the same day. Who can we call to get a good answer? O.k. I'll call the Captain and get back to you all..............

GDAC, what's up with our beloved John Cusack and this stalker incident?

Jen-please let us know what the captain says. You should definitely get a straight answer from him! :goodvibes

Thanks for all of your input about the school situation. I am going to emphasize that this an educational trip as well. As I truely believe IT IS! And Kristen, I also firmly believe that family time is so important. Drew is starting sixth grade this year (but middle school here doesn't start until seventh grade) and Kylie is starting first grade. Obviously Drew is more of a concern right now. I'm sure their teachers will be understanding, as they are both very strong students. I am going to ask if it is a problem to get the work ahead of time, and they can work on some assignments on the plane and at the hotel the night before we sail. BUT.....as soon as we sail, I'm not going to make them work on anything. The rest will wait for the plane ride home, and Sunday after the cruise.

I have always gotten a posititve response from my kids teachers when I tell them of our vacation(s) during school time. I usually just request that they collect the assignments and we will pick them up when we return. Last year, however, I did not relay my thoughts to my sons 2nd grade teacher (who is absolutely wonderful). I was in the classroom for something a few days before we were leaving and she remarked that she would send all of Luke's work with him on Friday for the following week.....it caught me off guard and I said really quickly "Oh, no thanks we don't take school work with us". I am not quite sure that was the way to handle it.......it was really rude on my part.

I really won't take work with us though. I don't even want it until we get back. I shoulda just taken the assignments though, and just not done them. Our kids are good students and to be honest it only takes us a couple of hours around the table and 5 days of work is done. This year they only miss 3 days though....piece of cake. That is with 2 in middle school this year. This will be it for us though.............going to high school next year.

Back to work tomorrow for me!
Missy
