I am currently working out what costumes to purchase for Hubby and I for the cruise. Does anyone know what the prizes are for winning? I received an email saying there are 5 categories:
Funniest
Best Group
Most Spooky
Most Original
Most Disney

Really aren't sure what to go as!! :scratchin

We won a trophy on The Dream last year for Most Original Costume, after our Magic cruise was cancelled out of dry dock.

I saw a picture of a couple who dressed as the two DCL smoke stacks. They looked awesome.

Plastic medals and plastic trophies were the prizes at the 2013 Halloween costume contest on the Wonder.

For the contest, you have to be nominated by the Cruise Staff and they will put you into a category for the contest, so you can't win in multiple categories. Also, on our cruise last October on Disney Fantasy, you had to have a team of 4 or more to be in the contest, and everyone had to be 18+. The prizes were the usual trophies given away at some of the other family activities.

Thanks for your response to my question. As a solo cruiser I'm a little disappointed that you have to be a team of 4 or more to be in the contest. Oh well that just the way it goes.

Last October on the Wonder, there were no requirements as to group size. In the group category there were people in pairs. In the other categories, if I recall correctly, I think there were both singles and groups.

As you can see, depending on the ship, the rules may vary. I believe that the reason on the Disney Fantasy, and it may apply to Disney Dream, for the minimum of a group of 4 was due to the larger number of guests than on the Classic ships.

(For any of my fellow US Naval Academy graduates out there, this was my 91st post. '91!!!!)

I don't think that there is that group of 4 rule for our cruise. The email specifically says the 5 categories I mentioned. So maybe the "best group" category is for 4 or more but it is obvious that the other categories are for a single guest. We are on the Fantasy this September.

Eh... I'm not going to stress about it. We'll find something to dress up as, but my mind goes a little crazy without having to worry about a costume!!! :rotfl2:

My husband won Most Original costume, I'll find a pic and post it...it was on our Fantasy. Oct 19, 2013 cruise. He won a bunch of DCL stuff...a DCL canvas bag, a DCL cap, a logo water bottle, a logo pleather notepad, logo pen and two logo luggage tags.

That was definitely a lot more than they were giving away at the beginning of last October on Disney Fantasy. They must of changed the rules after disappointing people with the groups only.

October 2013 on the Wonder was only plastic trophies and plastic metals. There was no gift bag or any other DCL merchandise. If I recall correctly the categories were Disney, funniest, most original, scariest, and group.
