Halloween Cruise 2004 Trip Report
Part 2: Day 2, Sunday, October 31
Just a reminder - heres the cast: theres me DM Shirley (58), DD Debbie (30), DSIL Paul (39), DGS Hunter (6), DD Beth (36) and DSIL Daryl (30). We were booked in SPH 5520 and inside cabin 5513 which was just down the hall. Me, Debbie, Paul and Hunter were in 5520 and my other daughter Beth and husband Daryl were in 5513.
Everyone was up around 9:00 (kind of late for Lumieres) so we decided to go to Topsiders for breakfast. Had lots of nice choices for the breakfast buffet and got a table inside the restaurant.
After eating, we went to Oceaneers Club to complete registration for Hunter. The line wasnt quite so long this time and Hunter was able to go in and play for a little while until it was time for the DisBoards Trick or Treating at 11:00. The club is trying very hard to prevent illness. Before the children are allowed in the club, they get their hands squirted with an antibacterial soap and then must wash it off before joining the other kids. A counselor standing near the back of the club will make sure that you wash your hands actually went after Hunter and his mom when they didnt realize that the counselor was waiting for them to rinse the soap off their hands. Mom thought it was one of those gels that didnt need to be washed off. Hunter enjoyed the pirate ship but before he could really play, we had to leave for trick or treating.
There were 58 DisBoard children registered for trick or treating and we were to meet in front of Lumieres. It was organized into 5 groups of children and there were adults with paddles that they held up indicating the group number so that the children could assemble with the correct leader. Then each group went to a different deck to start T or T. My grandson and I made it through 2 decks and then he said he was tired. Great treats were given out I especially appreciated a little clip-on clock since I dont usually wear a watch and sure needed a clock to keep with me had to bargain with him so that I could use it. He got a nice Mickey keychain and lots of yummy treats and he didnt visit all of the rooms! One of the room stewards gave out the chocolate nighttime candies to his group when they went by him. Debbie (Mom) handed out the Cheetos and Goldfish that I had to hand-carry on board since I just couldnt squeeze them into a suitcase. Ended up with just 7 bags left I was afraid I might run out but luckily I didnt. Thank you Ginger, Taswira, Judy and others who helped to organize this event. The ship did have a Trick or Treat that evening we didnt participate but loved the costumes at dinner that night.
In the afternoon, the guys wanted to watch football so they went to do this at Diversions (I believe). There were lots of Philly fans so they got to see their game on the biggest TV (there was a vote), Paul and Daryl had to watch their team on the smaller TV. Beth and Debbie were going to wine tasting and I had a High Tea Reservation for myself, Beth and Debbie at Palo@3:00. Took Hunter to the Kids Club so that Beth and Debbie could go to the wine tasting at 2:30 and I went to Palo at 3:00 with the hope that Beth and Debbie would join me later.
I really enjoyed the High Tea even if I was by myself. There were only about 15 to 20 people some husbands and wives. First you choose a tea and get served finger sandwiches. I was especially looking forward to the cream cheese and cucumber sandwich just one of my favorites but tried all four. Next you get an éclair and some scones that were especially delicious there was a raspberry jam, cream and apricot jam to spread on them. How yummy is that? Lastly you get served a trifle vanilla pudding, pound cake with cherries on top. Loved it all but daughters never showed. One server teased that they must really be enjoying that wine tasting! Fortunately, there wasnt a no-show fee for this particular event at Palo.
This evening was dinner at Animators Palate. The show was nice and a new feature since we cruised on the Wonder in 2000 was that some of the pictures have animation now. But trouble was brewing for Daryl he started to look a little green and said that he needed to go back to the cabin before the meal was finished. We are thinking sea sickness but he goes to the medical center and since he had a temperature, they quarantined him for 48 hours just in case it was the stomach virus.
Heres the scoop on quarantine. They brought him a VCR and let him choose movies. He also got bottled water and can order from the restaurant menus your server will bring the meal. They (medical center) called a few times to make sure that he is in his cabin but he really didnt feel good that night so he wasnt going anywhere. He started to feel better Monday and they advised him to be sure to get off the ship on Tuesday when we were in St. Martin and to not return until the last minute since he would be confined to his cabin until 2:00 am Wednesday morning. On Wednesday, all was well and no one else got sick so who knows what it was.
Hercules was the show tonight (I checked the Navigator this time I was thinking that it might have been Saturday). We enjoyed it great special effects. Perhaps a bit more for adults then kids but Hunter sat through it without complaints.
We got a great towel animal every night I can remember an elephant, cobra, monkey, scorpion, and snake. Really enjoyed the room steward Efren he was friendly and waited patiently for us to vacate our cabin so that he could cleanup. We were just slow getting started some days. Hunter liked his bunk bed and ladder (as 6 year old boys would) and loved the loud whooshing when the toilet was flushed. We would leave the curtain opened just a couple of inches so that we had a night light there was a light outside our secret porthole.
Cant think about much else for this Sunday Day-at-Sea but sure wouldnt mind being there now. Will try to do third installment tomorrow.
