When the kids were little I loved to make them...but this year DD (9) wants to be a dog! None to be found in the stores! So I have to make one. I did find this head band type head. It has ears and piece that comes down over her nose.
but how do I do the rest?
I can't find a brown or white sweat suit. So I bought grey. Of course the little mask thingie is brown and white.
So I bought some brown dye. and will try and make the gray suite brown...
I bought brown fur and some white fur, velcro and no sew glue.
I hate to sew big time!
we are also going to have a small basket with puppies she will hold.
Here is kind of what I am looking at

I thought I might add fur to the wrist and legs. Plus a few patches of fur.
But should I make more furry look? I have a yard of fur! LOL!

DD had nursery rhyme day at school last week at a classmate was a cow. Mom bought a sweat suit and hot glues black spots on it. It was very cute and I thought "even I could do that." Good luck.

When my DD (now 15) was 2, she was a dog. I'm a sewing person so it was all fur...but.....the special touch was me drilling holes into about a dozen Milk Bone dog bones and tying them on with ribbon and tying them onto her costume.

oh my drilling bones...hot glue maybe! LOL! But that is a good idea to add to the costume.
I think it will work out.
I have made in the past: Lion, very easy Sun Flower and a butter fly and last year for Mother goose day a Clock Which I must say I was pleased!
I am the type of crafter who hates to follow a pattern and hates to sew...but give me a chunk of something and hot glue/no sew glue and I "create"
I will definately be taking pictures!

One warning on the dye...if that sweatsuit is all cotton you should be good. If it is made from a cotton poly blend or some other strange blend of fibers you will probably get a really streaky look. The poly won't take dye the same way cotton does.

I might try dunking one sleeve or leg to about an inch above the cuff band (the bands are often more cotton than the body fabric) and see how it does. If you don't like it you can always cover it up with fur at the "paw"!

Good luck!
Deb

I forgot to add that the pet poodle ate the dog bones TWICE from her costume...much to the 2 year old's (and the dog's) delight.
