Halloween costume conundrum

Hello all! We'll be going to MNSSHP in October, and I need some opinions. I know the Halloween party, itself, includes like the Headless Horseman & dead guys & things of that nature. Here's what I'm pondering on:

My group of 12 decided this year that we would go as Star Wars characters :darth: :chewy: :yoda:. Well, my rough-and-tumble 4 yr old said he would like to be Darth Maul. Yeah, I know, only the creepiest looking of all the creeps. :rolleyes2 My 5 yr old said he'd like to be a bad guy, too, General Grievous. Ok, the costumes came in from Amazon. I'm thinking Darth Maul may not be Disney friendly. I just don't remember paying much attention to all the costumes at the party from people to know if it'll be ok or not. I've got plenty of time to work him into another direction, but he was loving his scary costume. He's obssessed with bad guys. :furious: Thoughts?

So I looked up the amazon ones online and they are a little creepy...but if he's with the rest of the Star Wars team and maybe carrying a light saber I would go...oh Star Wars and not think two shakes about it. If he likes the costume, and let's face it, the one he chose is now by rights owned by Disney then I think it would be ok.

Thanks for your 2 cents! I'm so torn about it, but you're right, with all the other characters, it's probably not a big deal. Plus, he's only 4, so it's not like he's this towering, intimidating big guy. Most probably won't notice. I've still got time to decide, but for those who don't want to research the costumes, I'll post a pic of the boys when they tried on their costumes earlier so you can weigh in if you want to- constructively, please. They look happy which is what's important. A few years ago we did family Halloween costumes. My youngest was Boba Fett in a Target costume, my oldest was Luke on Dagobah so he wore a Yoda backpack with a torn t-shirt and cargo pants, my husband was Lando in a purchased costume and I was Leia on the ice planet Hoth. I got purchased a vest, white jeans and a white mock turtleneck. The nice thing about my costume was that I could wear the items again.

I wasn't a fan of my youngest son's costume but it made him happy.

There's one potential issue. The masks. Here's what the rules say about masks:
https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/faq/parks/dress/

For Guests ages 13 and under:

  • Costumes and some masks may be worn, as long as the mask does not cover the entire face and eyes are visible.

I don't know how strictly they enforce this.

Thanks! I knew that being younger that they could wear masks. I missed the whole "does not cover the entire face" part. Sometimes it doesn't pay to speed read. I wonder how enforced this is, too. I honestly don't even think either of my boys would have the masks on much at all since they are so confining, but it's definitely another thing to think about.

If they are like my kids, the masks will last about 30 seconds before they get taken off. I knew there was some kind of restriction about masks, but I couldn't remember what it was, which is why I looked it up. And you know how they are always changing the rules...

We have been to the Halloween Party in October and it was very hot. My DH went as Woody in shorts - I could not get him to wear the jeans - just the shirt, hat and scarf.

I'm sure that mask will be off most of the night. Especially if he wants to eat some of the trick or treat candy. Maybe he will just wear it for a few pictures.
