Halloween Candy...

Some of my coworkers are bringing their kids Halloween candy to work today because they don't want their kids to eat it... Apparently, they are only allowed to keep abot 10 pieces of candy, and the rest gets to go to work with the parents... Is there a lot of parents that do that? Cause, frankly, I think it's an abuse of parental authority ;) !

But then again, I don't have kids so I never had to deal with a 5 year old hyped up on sugar :rotfl:

What do you guys think?

Well, I do this, but it's because my DS is diabetic and couldn't eat it all anyway. I figure someone might as well get it.

LOL

My kids really dont care that much about the candy, I think theyre aliens or something.

:lmao: I used to keep dd's Halloween candy in a bowl on top of the fridge and she was allowed one piece per day until she forgot about it (usually mid-November). Then I'd take it in to work and wait for the Christmas candy to fill the bowl.

The novelty of the Halloween candy wears off pretty quickly here. My kids are always given candy during the holidays and rarely eat much of it. We toss the leftover Halloween candy at Christmas then toss the Christmas candy at Valentines Day then the Valentines Candy at Easter and so on...

When the boys were little I would give them 24 hours to eat as much as they wanted. Now they hide it from their dad and eat a few pieces a day. In about a month I will go find it and trash it.

My kids have classmates who are allowed to go trick-or-treating but can't keep any of the candy. Not one piece! Cruel, if you ask me. A couple of pieces of candy aren't going to kill the kids. They have no medical conditions, their mother just says that candy isn't healthy.

DDs got over 300 pieces of candy!!! There is no way I would ever allow them to eat all of it. The novelty has already worn off, and I will probably be bringing some to work this week. Like ClarabelleCow mentioned, we throw away a lot of candy at our house, too. The kids love to get it but don't care that much about eating it.

I brought in our leftovers (we have no kids yet).

I remember when I was a kid, we went thorough all of the goods after getting home on Halloween, and kept all of the chocolates and the Skittles/Nerds/Twizzlers. Chucked PAL or other crummy bubble gum, Bit O Honey, Mary Jane and the rest of that old timey candy that no one under the age of 60 likes. Of course, after a couple of weeks, the chocolates were dwindling and our interest in the candy was waning. Anything left by Thanksgiving was trashed.

Why am I picturing the young Willie Wonka in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory?:rotfl2:

Ten pieces?!? That's a bit over the top unless we're talking full size bars.
I always let my kids eat all of it they wanted, with the exception of whatever "disappeared" after they went to bed...;)

My kids get to eat a couple pieces a day. About a week after Halloween they could really care less about the candy so I end up throwing it out. This year however we are donating the leftovers to the school so they can send it over to the troops :thumbsup2

Both my kids went tot the other night. They both went for close to 2 1/2 hours. They got a ton of candy. If I took half of it away they wouldn't even notice. Sometimes DH will bring it to work. Plus we have a few bags left over that we didn't give out. It's just too tempting to keep it all.

That happens at your house too??? :rotfl: I keep asking DH if he saw the little fairies that fly in and steal the candy out of the kids pumpkins because the candy always seems to disappear when he is in the room with it... ;)

Nothing wrong with parents setting a reasonable limit, IMO. Especially when it comes to something like candy. I brought some to work as well. And I find out that I am not the only one. ;)

I have frozen some of the leftover candy -get it out later. But, some of the schools here collect some of it and give it to some of the homeless shelters and food shelves. I think that is a great idea. Maybe somehow give some to city kids who don't get so much. I hate to see anything thrown out but I know my ex sister-in-law threw out all of my nieces and nephews candy after a few days last year. Hopefully they were smart enough to leave it at my brother's house this year! My brother does take some to work also, mostly the ones they don't like but also to reduce the "take" a bit! They got a ton this year! Unfortunately I work at his office one day a week. I just hope he didn't bring in my favorites!!! ;)

Rather than throw it out, why not donate it to a food pantry, homeless shelter, nursing home, etc?

If "10 pieces" is the limit, then these parents should only take their children to 10 houses..

Let them eat 300 pieces? Of course not, but limiting them to 10 pieces (barring medical issues) is a bit on the cruel side.. Most kids forget about the candy after a few days anyhow..;)

We all nibble and snack until the good stuff (chocolate) is gone then it comes into my office for general distribution. This usually occurs within about a week. We do limit DD's daily intake since too much chocolate makes her puke but other than that I am not a food controller to that extent.

Uhh, no, I definitely don't do that! I'm using the candy to wrap up the potty training of the 3 year old! Looking to up the 50% he's been hitting! ;) :rotfl2:
