Freaking out around here.......

I have not bought any Halloween candy yet. Due to budgeting I plan on shopping tomorrow.

How much do you spend?
How many children do get?
What do you hand out?

We get as many as 80+ or as little as 40 trick-or-treaters. I am trying to decide what to buy....bags of little stuff and hand out by the handful or larger items so everyone gets one.

Thanks for the help

Well I bought it all today- Walmart had bags for $2 so I bought a bunch of those.(6 bags I think) I bought a big bag of Wonka stuff(like 120 pieces) some small playdoughs and a big bag of lollipops. It looks like a ton.

Generally I have to put out a bowl - there is a HUGE party down the block every year and it is a great time but we end up staying there all night.

In the past I bought a big box of full size Hershey bars from Costco- but I let our membership expire and don't shop there anymore so it's handfuls for the kids instead of a single big one.

Believe me when I say the kids are here for the party more than the trick or treating.

I hit the CVS sale Monday. They had fun size snickers, m&m, reeces, (all hershey) 2/$3.00 I spent at least $35 so I am stocked and ready.I also bought 3 big assorted bags of sourpatch kids/now and laters, lollipops, etc. We get alot of kids here. I must have over 20 bags of candy.

Kroger is having an awesome sale tonight from 4-midnight. They have all the bags $1.47 and I had $1 off 2 coupons so I got them for under $1 per bag! I bought 10 bags.

We bought:

a case of 42 bags of potato chips from Sam's club
3 15 packs of popcorn
3 boxes of 40 count jumbo pixie sticks
2 24 packs of Starburst full size
box of popcorn balls
8 multi packs of gum
16 bags of fun size candy bars

With sales we spent less than $80 this year - much better than usual!

We live in a very small town but kids come from surrounding areas, so we get between 400 - 450 kids each year.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!

:scared1: WOW..but it sounds like fun. Do you even close your door:rotfl2: Do you think there will be more this yeat since it is on a Friday? We get about 100-125 kids but this year it is going to be nice out and on a Friday:confused3

DH decorates the lawn and door, and then he takes the glass out of our front door. That way I don't have to worry about the pooches and kitties getting out, and I don't have to keep the door closed. (although we do keep the heat turned up that night!)

DH just said he is going to pick up a couple more packs of the Starbursts tomorrow, to be sure we have enough. :goodvibes

We get 300 +/- trick or treaters. I bought 6 bags of 63 small boxes of Mike and Ikes for $3.50 at Rite Aid last week. I also bought 6 bags of 60 tootsie pops for $4.99 at Wal Mart a few days ago. Each kid will get one of each.

None!!! Since we don't live in one of the big new fancy neighborhoods of our town, we get NO trick or treaters. When we do happen to get one the kids give them a handful out of thier bucket.

The grocery store had fruit rollups buy 1 get 1 free.

I was wondering if it would be worth it to get those and have them out single-y?

We have done the chips from Sam's club before and that was a huge hit and easy to do.
We also did the small unpopped bags of popcorn - huge hit.

I feel CHEAP!!:rolleyes1 This is the first year in this neighborhood so I was not sure how much to get. We will be out of the house by 5:30 to go to my mom's neighborhood to TOT. So I only bought 3 bags of candy with about 20 in each bag. I hope we have enough.:confused3 Last year we lived 2 counties away so we only bought 1 bag and had NO trick or treaters before we left to go to moms. I was not sure how many we would have before we left this year (we are back in the same county now) so I got 3 bags. I might pick up 1 more bag tomorrow just to make sure....but I don't want to much as DD brings back about 2-3 bags just from TOTing.:rolleyes1 I throw so much away!!

Do you leave it outside when you leave your house? When we are gone we leave a basket out with stuff.

Woah!!!!! $80? That's enough for me to turn my lights off and hide.

You know that the first kid that comes along will dump your basket into his Trick or Treat bag. Everytime I've ever seen a basket or bowl out, even if it has a sign to take one piece, is empty. This is why I've never done this.

We get maybe 20 trick or treaters at our house. We live at the end of a dead end street and the folks at the beginning of our street don't have their lights on so hardly anyone comes down this far.

I only bought 3 bags of candy this year. Anything left over will get put away to put in the kids christmas stockings.

We even do up the outside of the house - put out homemade tombstones, big ghouls, usually hang ghosts in trees although I skipped doing that this year, decorate the front porch all spooky.

It's kinda sad and I'm ready to end all the decorating but DH and the kids like it.

I forgot to add, I'm trying to figure out how to hand out candy this year. DH said he might be home late from work tonight and I don't want the kids to miss trick or treating.

Well I stopped at Target after dropping the kids off at school. I was hoping the sales would start. No luck.

I picked up 4 of the larger bags (100+ pieces). Sometimes it looks like too much and then I look again and hope its enough.
The huge bummer.....total cost close to $40.

(I also picked up AG movie Kit and Tinker Bell)

We spent at least $50 for candy and expect at least 400 trick or treaters. I bought 5 of the 100+ bags of candy from Target, I think some have 150 pieces. It is supposed to be beautiful weather in our area, which will bring out more.

Since it's a Friday, we also have "treats" for the adults (pudding and jell-o shots).

I want to come to your house! I never thought about that! How fun!

Our neighbors here (we did this too in MI) leave a bowl of candy on the front porch. Neighbors say it's always full when they come back and I know the bowl on our porch was never empty (thankfully!) so I guess that's an option. I think if you put it out early when the younger kids are out with parents you wouldn't have as much of a problem as you would with the older ones who are out later and alone...just my opinion.

Happy Halloween!

We have about 500 kids. We live in a community of 600 homes and we gets kids from outside the community as well plus those darn teenagers! I have bought about $40 of candy. I have about 600 pieces of candy. Usually the community sets a time of 2 hours. But they lowered it this year to only 1 1/2 hours! YEAH! I also got some small packs of animal crackers for the wee little ones.

I buy a mix of Halloween-themed goodies from Oriental Trading. For example, this year I bought little kaleidoscopes, kazoos, spider rings, tiny bottles of bubbles, some tattoos, and then I bought a couple of bags of taffy. I load it all into a big bin and let the kids pick out 3 things. There is always a little bit leftover, which easily stores until the next year and then I can add other new things to keep a variety. I have some stickers, skull rings, halloween-shaped tracers, and erasers from last year added in this year.

I ran out of candy my first year in this house. Never again!!

It's a lot less expensive than buying all candy, which can't save over. I sure don't need extra candy laying around the house or I will eat it constantly. The kids all seem to really like getting something other than just candy. So do the parents.
