Halloween Candy - how much

You know that the first kid that comes along will dump your basket into his Trick or Treat bag. Everytime I've ever seen a basket or bowl out, even if it has a sign to take one piece, is empty. This is why I've never done this.

I sort of expected this tonight (we left a bowl out) and although I had to top it off once when we looped back towards the house, no one dumped the bowl! I was kind of impressed, especially as I'd filled it with the good kinds of chocolate.

I bought $20 worth of chocolate bars, and $10 worth of the Nickelodeon mixed bags, so 14 bags total. We still have 3 bags left + half the bowl + DD's haul, so I've got to figure out what to all this candy. :confused3

I did notice that our neighborhood had way fewer houses welcoming ToT's, I'm not sure if it's the economy or the high school football game tonight.

I really dont' understand why everything on here becomes such a big issue of "how do you handle this?". If you can't afford to buy candy for Tricks or Treats, then don't buy any, keep your lights off and dont' answer the door! You can't really predict how many you will get and what you'll need. Buy what you can afford (and as I said, if it is none then close up the house!) and when its gone you put up a note that says "out of candy". Folks do it here all the time and its no big deal.

Not trying to be snarky OP but I am just amazed at how people worry about stuff sometimes. You can only do what you can do!

Most of our Trick or treaters come in the afternoon and there wasn't that many this year. I bought extra thinking it would be busier because it's Friday.:confused3
Whatever kids are coming now are getting alot.
I even bought the mini Play-Dohs for the little ones and I only gave out a few.

we left out a giant bowl of candy because I didn't know how many if any of the kids in this neighborhood would actually TOT here and came home to the bowl still full and I'd guess no one stopped by. Ah well, more for my little ones.

I went through 25 bags of fun size candy plus 1 large 290 piece laffy taffy/nerds/sweet tarts from Bj's. I did buy at CVS for $1.50 and some of my fun size bags were twizzlers which were about 45 per bag. All gone. 3:30-8:45 last one. My kids usually give out 2 pieces. It was fun...but glad its over.

gooooood gravy! Some of you get a zillion kiddos! Our neighborhood we dont get many. I could get by with 2 bags of candy really and even that was too much this year. All the kids even the older ones went for the halloween play doh I got from Target last year for .39 a huge bag. GO figure. Then of course everyone is desperate to get rid of their candy so they start dumping it into the kids bags and my son comes home with a huge bag full. UGH

I totally forgot to buy the candy for trick or treaters this year. so I just went into our own candy stash and I had some halloween pencils and erasers I bought at the dollar store and put a bowl of candy together.
But we ended up being out trick or treating with our kids for the entire time from 4-7 so we didn't have to give any candy out. I think maybe DH had one trick or treater while I was getting the kids in their costumes.

We got close to 150 TOTs this year. We spent $40.00 on 110 full size bars, $5.00 on 65 snack size boxes of Mike and Ike's and $6.00 on 30 fruit snacks.
The total: $51.00. Ooops! forgot I had to break into some individual snack bags of cookies, so the total is a little more. We have a great time and the cost is within our means so we make a night of it with my sister's family and order take out.

I had almost 900 pieces and was out of it in less than 3 hours!!!!!!!! I live in Philadelphia in a row home and it gets very busy on Halloween!

Oh i forgot to add that I bought all my candy at Toy's R Us on Thurday for 50% off and it only costed me $29.00

We started trick or treating tonight at 6pm and ended at 8:15pm hitting 2 decent sized neighborhoods and my kids ended up (after dumping their buckets MANY times) with half of a 13 gallon size trash bag. I have inspected it all and sorted out all the chocolate already because DD4 will eat herself sick in chocolate if I will let her. She is not too big on the other stuff, but I must say they did get the really good candy this year not a lof of mints and butterscotches..hahaha

I sure wish someone would have had some jello-shots where I was at..:rotfl: Sure would have taken some of the burn away from climbing up all those hilly streets...I AM SOOOOO out of shape..:lmao:
