Don't have much as I've been traveling for two weeks and haven't had the chance to shoot around town yet. But here's a display in front of the town hall building in Quebec City, Canada a few weeks ago:

Haven't taken any of our Halloween pics yet, but took these at a fundraiser last weekend and I think they fit the theme! ;)

This is a quick video of my family in our Halloween costumes. I threw up a black background in front of the garage, put the camera on a tripod, and started shooting. Other than cutting off the beginning and the end, this video is straight out of the camera.

We had a blast last night! heres a few of my kids...
DS 8 was Darth Vader...

DD 4 was Rapunzel...

I uploaded this year's Neighborhood Halloween Slideshow. I'm reasonably happy with it. I could definitely have spent more time on the video, tuning the zooms a little better and aligning the transitions with the music. I just have too much going on for that level of futzing.

I used basically the same lighting setup as last year. I had four Alien Bees (2 400s and 2 800s) firing into white foamboard V's that reflected back into a large white sheet behind me. I also had an ABR800 firing through a softbox on the sheet behind me to add a little more light. The light bounced from that onto the subjects. It creates a really nice diffuse light. It lacks dimensionality, but it looks nice and I don't have to adjust it at all between subjects. Given that there is sometimes a line of people waiting, speed is of the essence.

For subjects in black costumes, we sometimes threw in a background light to add a little separation. I had it shooting at the background. Next year I might experiment with aiming it at the back of the subject as more of a rim light. My concern is that doing that will require more accuracy, which means more time.

I think I'll ditch the ABR800 next year. I'll just boost my ISO another notch to cover it.
