So all you experts out there...what week is the least crazy during Halloween overlay that also includes a trick or treat party? Also in past years what has been the additional cost in going to the halloween party?

its all crazy we went in 08 week of oct 15,16,17 and went to the party in ca adv i think tickets were 39 bucks and it was very crowded but we got lots of candy.

we also went in 09 around the same week but didnt go to the party the parks were busier in 09.

halloween time is very popular time anymore

just pick a weekend and go and enjoy it and just plan on it being busy

3rd or 4th week. Stay away from Columbus day. We went Halloween weekend 2009 and it was busy but nowhere near the craziness a few weeks prior.

We were just there this last October from the 11th-21st. We pre paid $49 each online for Mickey's Halloween Party on Tuesday 19th (our 2nd week) it was very rainy but still a lot of fun, Trick or Treating, the Parade & Fireworks still went ahead, some of the decorations that we had seen set up the parties the first week weren't put up (like the cute Mickey Ghosts) but it still had an amazing atmosphere.

It was really busy those 2 weeks, especially the days the parties were being held, We're from Australia & didn't realise we were showing up on Columbus Day, but so very glad we did it, FastPass was our friend & we had an amazing time, even the days it rained :)

Currently our tentative plan is the 5th to the 11th do they start the halloween parties that early in the month? Also our last trip just ended and was the week between Christmas and New years 2010 when they closed the park 3 x during our stay due to capacity. When you say crowded is it THAT crowded or a little more tame crowded.

Halloween parties usually start the first of the month. I don't know if they reached capacity at all in 2010 over the Halloween season, but in 2009 I know they did over Columbus day weekend. HOWEVER, that was the year they premiered the Halloween fireworks and they showed nightly for everyone (2010 they could only be seen at the parties). A LOT of people flooded the parks to see them.

Well we managed the Christmas crowd and had a good time so I guess Halloween will be fine too. After seeing pics of some of the candy hauls people brought in this year I will need to find somewhere to donate some of it since I can't imagine the overweight baggage fees all that chocolate could incur at the airlines LOL!

I don't remember the parks closing due to capacity for the month of October last year. We always go sometime during the last week of October for 4 days. It is always crowded on the days that a party is scheduled and during the weekends. The crowd levels have increased in the last 4 years or so for October, but the crowds are nothing like those the week between Christmas and News Years. If you handled that, then you should be fine. Just keep up with the Halloween Superthread Part 2 (find it here) that Sherry E started and you will get lots of tips and info that will become useful for making the most of your trip.

BTW, I was just looking at our calendar for this year and it looks like we will be going Oct 26 to 29. That is if I can book a one bedroom at the VGC using my SSR points (saving those VGC points for a Christmas stay!)

If you can manage Christmas, you can manage ANYTHING!!! :rotfl:

I visited the parks from Oct 2 to 10th and these are my observations. First off book your hotel around 5 months in advance to get the room that you want, especially when booking with HOJO's. I found the crowds to be heavy but manageable during the time that I was visiting the mouse. Take advantage of the Fastpasses and single rider lines. Ride the rides first thing in the morning before noon when the crowds are the lowest. Mickey's Halloween Party...I went to the Oct 5 and 8th parties, and had a blast at both. The cost for the Tues party was $49USD and Friday was $54USD. You can buy the tickets ahead of time starting around July 14t5h onwards online on the main Disney website. I loved the fireworks, parade, character interactions, and ended up with close to 20lbs of candy that the kids enjoyed afterwards. The bags that they give you are tiny, so the best advice is to bring a backpack with you with a lg bag inside and as the treat bag get's heavy dump it into the backpack to even out the weight distribution. It's definitely worth it to see DL in it's Halloween glory, and it's a fun time of year, with tons of character interactions throughout the day, and alot more entertainment in general than off season. Hope that this helps you out.

Thanks everyone and esp for the link to the Halloween superthread keep the tips coming as this is the one time of year I have NEVER been to DLR.

Hmmm, I'm not seeing the link to the Halloween Superthread, could someone post it. We're thinking of going to the party in October so might be a good idea to start learning more about it. We've not been at DL only at WDW.

I go trick or treating twice a year every year, once during the middle of the week and once at the end/weekend time. You will definitely see a larger crowd during the end of the week trick or treat times than you do during the week, but it's all very do-able and nothing to insane. I LOVED last years trick or treating at Disneyland. I'm sure this year due to DCA construction (and popularity) they will still have it at Disneyland, and hopefully every time after that!! I usually always go during the 3rd week of October but this year I am changing it up to the second week of October (10th - 17th) so I'm hoping the crowds aren't too different from what I'm used to. No matter what the weekdays are usually always low crowds during October.
