Hallmark Movies ❤️ comfort & joy

I don't have a clue about acting abilities, lol. I'm apparently no connoisseur of talent. I liked Christmas for Keeps. I was so-so on Christmas in Montana. I really really liked MJH's Christmas movie last year with Jason Priestley. I don't think any this year were as good as last years but I still watched most.

Is the Brooke Shields movie mentioned above a new movie? After she broke her leg in such a violent and crippling way, I didn't realize she had healed sufficiently to make movies already. Her testimony about her experience was horrifying.

We all like what we like, and don't like what we don't, for a variety of reasons and they are ALL valid. :goodvibes Right now PrincessShmoo is cheering with your right now.

We all don't have to agree with each other.

It's one of the reasons I like to be more detailed in my reviews/opinions. I may have watched and some things stuck out to me. Yet, that isn't what other people look for or that doesn't bother them. :thumbsup2 So they can take that into account when they decide to watch something I didn't like. All good.

I totally forgot about Brooke breaking her leg. She was on the Today Show recently, plugging her movie. I don't recall if they talked about her accident and recovery. But, she looked great and back to "normal" I guess.

Just watched the Brooke Shields/Cary Elwes movie - AWESOME!! If you have Netflix, go watch it! These movies are what makes me realize the Hallmark movies have bad acting, lol.

I may watch it again tomorrow. I love when movies are set in foreign countries and they show enough that you want to visit. I want to go to England, Scotland, Ireland......

Oh no! Just yesterday you said you didn't notice the bad acting in Hallmark movies and were able to watched most of them. :lmao:

The trouble with seeing a really good Hallmark-type movie is that it's like eating a bag of chips. You want more than just one. popcorn::

For me, what made this season a little disappointing was that, as you said, the movies this season weren't as good as past seasons. And I think I saw my favorite movie of the season rather early. I'll compile my list of favorites this year later, but I think my top favorite was the Mrs. Miracle movie. That aired in Week 3 of 9 weeks.

I was really excited seeing that movie. I had hoped there would be other movies of that quality in writing and acting. I had even joked I hope it wasn't downhill from there. Sadly, for me it was. Maybe I was a little hard in my reviews of other movies as that one set a high bar for me. There was a couple that came close, but not quite.

Hopefully I'll feel differently when I watch some of the movies again much later when I've had some distance from watching all the movies so close together. Often a movie becomes a favorite after the second time watching it. I see something new I hadn't seen before. Other times, a moment grabs me in a way it hadn't before.

We're down to the last several Christmas movies on HMM and then we are done for the season. :sad1: It was painful looking at the channel guide and seeing The Golden Girls and Magnum P.I. back in the lineup. :headache:

Yesterday I had set the timer on my TV for "Taking a Shot at Love" on Hallmark tonight. When the TV switched channels tonight, they had replaced the movie with "The Lost Valentine" (with Betty White, surprise!).

I watched it. It was obviously a good movie as I cried (a couple of times) while watching it.

I didn't find out until after it was over. I'm bummed. I hope they show it again. I am glad that Hallmark commemorated Betty and didn't just launch into the Golden Girls reruns, as though it was the same as usual.

I wish they had updated the guide! I turned it on by chance and at first was very confused! She did a great job and I cried a lot.

I just finished watching "Five More Minutes" and it may be my favorite of this year's crop!

I've been thinking what my favorites are this season: :scratchin

(I still have a few left to watch, so this list might change.)

I'd still put the Mrs. Miracle reboot at the top. It wasn't written by the usual Hallmark writers, but was from a bestselling book series so the writing was a cut above the usual. And it originally was from a time when Hallmark took more care with some of their movie choices and didn't just churn them out for quantity over quality.

Second is A Kiss Before Christmas. I've liked Jamie Denton since Desperate Housewives. So it was nice seeing him as the lead in a movie and getting a chance to show what he can do, instead of always being in the supportive husband role.

Others that made the list of movies I'll watch again:

My Christmas Family Tree - This is the one where DNA tests were done and then it was found a mix up occurred. Although, the lab never properly resolved their mistake.

Making Christmas Bright - Two families are in a house decorating competition. I like when the dads are the ones feuding than when the leads are having "sparks fly" with each other.

'Tis the Season to be Merry - The last movie of the season. They kept things on the light side and humorous, but not silly.

Next Stop, Christmas - This involved going back in time via a train trip. I thought it was well written. I liked the time travel affected the other members of the family too.

On GAC: A Christmas Miracle for Daisy with Jill Wagner. A good, classic Hallmark-type movie from a couple years ago. Jill played an interior decorator for about the 4th time. I liked all those movies. She's really good at this character.

On Lifetime:

Christmas Movie Magic - the one with a quest about an olde tyme movie star. Well written, well acted. The quest made it different than the usual stuff.

It Takes a Christmas Village - Basic Hallmark/Lifetime movie about putting on a Christmas fair to save the town. The leads had real chemistry with each other.

I just tried watching Hallmark's "Sugar Plum Twist." 20 minutes in I knew this was a clunker for me. Maybe it was the subject material, I find ballet boring, Hopefully I'll have better luck with the next one in my burgeoning DVR!

I love ballet, especially the Nutcracker. But, I also turned this one off after about 20 minutes.

I’m going through Hallmark Christmas movie withdrawal. Can’t we just get a 24 hour Christmas channel 😆?

It's particularly depressing when scrolling channels and there's nothing on HMM now except all those old reruns. Hallmark gutted the channel. (I know, it's the same stuff they always have the rest of the year. But, right after they stop showing 24 hours of Christmas movies, it feels worse.) Definitely going through withdrawal.

I have a DVR full of them, so I am still watching!

I still have some movies I haven't seen yet DVRed. But most are Lifetime movies that I'll probably delete after 15 min of watching. :headache:

I have several really old Hallmark movies saved. But, I saw them recently, so I'm not up to seeing them again so soon. I need a bigger DVR.

Same here. I had it on while doing other things. Then the next time I looked at the TV about 45 min had passed. I've realized that probably means it's a bad movie if it didn't hold my attention. Most times, I'll rewind a bit and start watching again. But, often I've found I'll lose interest right at the same place. So, it's definitely the movie.

I love ballet too, so I fast forwarded to the end. They did show a quick little traditional dance that was okay.

Then they showed the twisted, Latin version. I didn't care for it. I get that it was danced that way as an exercise for the dancer to put some of her own ethnic style, heart and roots in the dance. It wasn't meant to replace how The Nutcracker is traditionally done. (I've heard of a female version of Hamlet that was done here, for instance.) But, I didn't think it worked. It's like on Dancing With The Stars, when they do a Grease themed night and then dance styles that clearly don't go with the song. Sure, it can be done. But, should it? A lot of times No.

Back to the Sugar Plum twisted version: so while the dancer technically danced it beautifully and put heart and soul in it, I didn't think it fit the song or The Nutcracker at all. The Nutcracker is a dream of a little 8(?) year old girl. The Latin version was too sexy. I thought a better exercise would have been better to pick a sexy, more adult song and do it full out.

That's funny, I watched a different Nutcracker one yesterday, from 2016 I think.

I couldn't get through that one. The female lead, Amy Acker was about 39, pretending she was a ballerina in her 20s. :headache:

Speaking of dance movies, did anyone watch the Corbin Bleu movie? I watched part of it, then fast forwarded to the end. It did have a lot of spectacular dances. But, I wasn't sure if I should watch it again for the beginning story part?

On Hallmark or Lifetime? I didn't know he had a dancing movie.
