Hallmark Movies ❤️ comfort & joy

Yesterday, my son walks through the living room where I'm watching the Hallmark channel again.

Him: Huh. I guess it's still Christmas on Hallmark?
Me: Well, yeah... it's not Loveuary yet.

I wish I could accurately describe how I stopped him in his tracks, the slow turn back to look at me and the tv quizzingly, and then the facial expressions of the slow dawning of understanding as he worked through the possible combinations of the meaning of the word.

This isn't the main reason I watch Hallmark movies.... but it's up there. :hippie:

And yes, Imzadi, THANK YOU for your tireless attention to this thread. It was about a year ago that I gave the Hallmark channel a chance and discovered I found the movies heart-warming and entertaining. It is great to have a spot to read and discuss the movies/actors! :)

My husband came in the bedroom to put on his workout clothes, and stands there for a minute watching (it was not a holiday type scene at that moment, but the scene then changed) and says "You're still watching Christmas movies?" Well DUH. We've been married 33 years, he should know I always watch until the new year at least. (well I watch Hallmark ones year round, but until the new year it's only Christmas all the time)

I love your description. :lmao: I could actually see him stop and all the expressions chase across his face as he tried to figure it out. :rotfl:

lol that's cute!

There's also New Year New You before Loveuary which they seem to have gone away from Winterfest. IDK I was kinda liking the winter-style movies you could normally count on. Now they seem to have placed odd timing ones. One that's coming up is a golf movie which I like more for spring. I know they may sprinkle in some winter ones in there but none of the ones this year seem to be that type of theme.

Could Ms. Christmas Comes to Town be another movie to watch more for Barbara Niven and not the leads? :scratchin

I can clearly say: YES! I actually recommend this movie. :thumbsup2

Barbara is clearly the star of this movie. She magnetizes us every time she's on screen. This isn't a downer of a movie, as she always knew her illness may come back and she was already reconciled with that possibility.
This is partially why I held off on watching the movie because of the theming sounded so sad. I'll still give it a shot and I'm glad you mentioned watching it for other people that helps prepare me. I like Barbara on Chesapeake Shores too and she's also been in multiple Mystery series so that helps in knowing/liking her.

We've got a new CEO taking over the "new Hallmark." She's already been at Hallmark in a different position, yet she's set to take over as CEO sometime in the new year. So, I guess this will be the "new, new Hallmark." We'll see what changes she makes. The move to adding the golf movie may already be one. :confused3

I'm still hoping she will revisit some series that have been cancelled, like Signed, Sealed, Delivered. We never got an official word on it's status. It would be nice if it comes back. Also, I'd like to have Mystery 101 come back for at least one more movie to finish off the cliffhanger. 🤞

Although, I think Jill Wagner has permanently gone over to GAF as she has done three Christmas movie for them. Her latest movie, Bringing Christmas Home, with Paul Greene, has reportedly gotten the most fan reviews & ratings, making the movie #1 on the GAF network. (Paul Greene's Instagram post on becoming #1 for the network.)

OMG I LOVED Signed, Sealed, Delivered. I need another movie at least from that series. The quirkiness of the characters worked and the stories they told heartwarming. I liked the uniqueness feel to being in a lost letter/undelivered area of the mail.

I saw that Mystery 101 is done and over with and I'm super disappointed they left that huge cliffhanger. It's worse than just stopping the series like they've done with other series. But no they had to add a whopper of a cliffhanger and we're not likely to get an answer. It sours it all ya know?!

I'm okay with Hallmark trying to be fresh and all, it's been nice for the most part. But I do enjoy the more themed aspects to their movies throughout the year and then find it jarring when it feels misplaced if that makes sense.

Mine now watches too

It's my all time favorite Hallmark series. ❤️

It occurs to me :scratchin that maybe the SAG actors strike might have had something to do with the golf movie. There's another sports themed movie too, I think it has to do with rope repelling.

While Hallmark was eventually allowed to keep filming as they are in Canada and they have a different actors' union up there. It was unclear what SAG's position was for the first several weeks, until Hallmark finally got permission. And many American SAG actors are the leads in a lot of the Hallmark films. Some of the Christmas films were finishing up, up to a few weeks ago, even though they were already advertised on the calendar.

So it may be that Hallmark's winter themed movies got pushed off, from when they normally filmed them, for the ongoing filming of Christmas movies. So, instead of getting winter themed movies, when they could finally film them, we now have golf this year. :upsidedow

Well this is interesting I'm realizing the last several movies save for one haven't really hit me as being super high rated but here goes it.

Heaven Down Here (Hallmark) 8/10 Different type of Christmas movie but I really enjoyed it overall. When you want a serious but not super downer type movie I'd pick this one. The singing (though it wasn't prevalent) was nice. There was more religious overtones than I'm normally in for but super expected with the title. I didn't find it off putting though.

A Season For Family (Hallmark) 6/10 I just could not get over him not wanting to tell his son. It felt so cruel not protective. Like IRL how would that even go over? I wish that plot point would have been solved super quick. I would have rather a movie focused on them getting to know each other when they know. I didn't rate it lower despite that because I liked the other parts of the movie.

A Paris Christmas Waltz (Great American Family) 6/10 I know a lot of comparisons could be made to The Dancing Detective: A Deadly Tango from Hallmark and they did feel pretty similar. There just was a lack of super chemistry beyond a few moments. Jen Lilley played too innocent and Matthew Morrison played with too little emotion. I'd watch it for some parts, more the Paris feel and the choreographer character was endearing. I would rewatch this again but not for expecting chemistry.

Mystery on Mistletoe Lane (Hallmark) 6/10 I did like the mystery part, I liked how the characters got to the end and the twist but other than that it didn't really do it for me, but I'm thinking I may try this one again at some point.

I wondered about that as well, I guess we'll see how it plays out over the next several years but it absolutely could have been part of it. I excused some movie choices due to the pandemic so I guess I could do the same here if that impacted it. I know I'm just being nit picky here

Hallmark Channel:
1️⃣ Our Christmas Mural
Starring:
Alex Paxton-Beesley and Dan Jeannotte.
Description: Olivia, a single mom, returns home for Christmas. Her mom secretly enters her into a mural contest; she wins but partners with teacher Will to create a Christmas masterpiece.

Our Christmas Mural is just an average, pleasant, predictable Hallmark movie. Nothing stands out as especially great or wrong with the movie. If you need a Hallmark movie on in the background as you do other things, and want to look up once in a while, this is an easy movie to be able to figure out the parts you missed and still follow along.

Funny thing I think about Dan Jeannotte. I really like when he creates characters with an accent. He did a movie a few years ago with Jen Lilley where she owned a vineyard and went to France for a wine competition. She met Dan's character, who was a French man. He and his brother owned a rival, french vineyard. I thought that character was really lively and interesting. I also liked Dan in The Royal Nanny, where he played a member of the Royal family. Yet, when he plays characters closer to probably his real self, like this movie, they are not as interesting. :duck:

Mine only watches with snide comments or other irrelevant comments. He has nicknamed several of the leading ladies, not necessarily complimentary so I won't share the names. The only one that isn't derogatory is "big eyes" which is Jen Lilley. She does have big, beautiful eyes. That reminds me that I didn't see Mingle all the way this year, darn it....

Oh I didn’t say he watched and loved them. He asked me why everyone is ugly and have to move to the country side? Lol
