Well, the plan is working thus far, spending the night in columbia tn, have a customer visit in the morning and then on to Lake City FL to spend the night, and then custmer visits in Lake City, Palatka FL, Ocala FL and then on to Fort Desoto...tampa customer visit Friday morning and then pick up the wife and kids at Clearwater Airport Friday Afternoon...12.5 MPG thus far with no bikes and only me, yikes, looks like I need to start saving more for the official fort trip in Feb 2010...2.45 to 2.50 is the prevaling fuel price thus far.

for those of you pop up people wondering whether you need brakes, I am so glad I had them on a unforseen 70 to 15 hard braking situation
for a construction slow down that was right over a hill crest...

here we come FL

Well it certainly sounds like your plan is coming together, :thumbsup2.
I hope ya'll have a fantastic time !

Hey, I'm just 2 exits back up I-65 from Columbia. How about you come by in the morning and pick me up?? :worship:

I would KILL for 12.5mpg! Ok, maybe just maim, but you know what I mean. On dead flat FL highways I get about 7.5mpg and more like 7 everywhere else. At $2.50/gal our fuel to Disney is over $450. Now THAT's a "yikes"! (and yes, I know there are some big riggers from further away who spend over a grand, so I am grateful for my 'cheap' trip!)

Have a great trip!
:santa:

I like those gas prices. We leave tonight from South Bend, IN and head to the Ft and arrive Saturday. Gas prices here right now shot up and are at 2.79 on the cheap side to 2.89. Figures :(

Yippie! My 100th post!!

one bit of bad luck narrowly avoided - I was noticing all of the other rv'ers on the side of the road with tire blow outs and got to looking at my tires - yikes they must have been underinflated as the wear was very bad on the sides, - I tried to put the spare on the worst one but realized my universal tire iron wasn't so universal - uh oh. off to walmart and they just happened to stock what I needed, first in line at 7AM and by 7:30 I was rolling again but $250 poorer.

Just curious. Was that for two or four tires and are we talking TT sized tires or something smaller?

Well that stinks, but at least it is now taken care of and you are now
"rolling again"! :)

It was two tires ST205 75 14, RV tires, $110 a apiece plus mount/disposal plus tax. They had them off and in less than a half hour,

By the way, all set up at Fort Desoto. A couple other learning curve issues making a 1500 mile trip I learned the hard way: apparently I need to be more careful with canned pop, one 12pack either fell and cracked open or exploded from heat, thinking it fell since nothing else was too hot and only one can broke open Funny thing is there is no real mess, must have evaporated from the heat? Traffic in Tampa/St Pete is insane...again sure glad I had those trailer breaks and prodigy hooked up even though its just a pop up...Fort Desoto is beautiful, jealous of all of you floridians that get to weekends at places like this!

Wife and Kids arrive tomorrow, very excited to share such a neat experience wth them...

If you live in the south and haven't been to the other Fort (Desoto), I highly reccommend it, the sites on the Water side are awesome, we are on the boat channel side, but I will camp in the tent area next time close to the water!

We camp there quite frequently. Beautiful! I am a little spoiled since it takes me about 10 minutes to get there from door to door.

Enjoy your trip! :thumbsup2

I too would kill for that kind on mpg. With fuel prices going back up, I wonder if our esteemed legislators will do the right thing and allow full utilization of domestic resources, humm

Now why in the world would our esteemed legislators do anything like that. We all know they are in the pockets of the speculators er I mean oil companies.
