In our AAA magazine this month there was a brief article on Holland America cruises. Apparently they also have a private island called "Half Moon Cay" which is visited by their Caribbean cruises. The article said it had won some award three years in a row.

Has anyone been to this island? Can you compare to Castaway Cay? Do DCL fans have any cause to be jealous?

Holland America's Half Moon Cay is awesome! I think it's second only to Castaway Cay when it comes to private islands.

A private cabana- there are several of these you can rent for the day, with air conditioning and snacks included:

Here's a map of the layout of the public areas on HMC:

They serve a barbeque lunch on the island, have a little area with shops selling Bahamian crafts, several bars...

I don't think DCL cruisers should be jealous of Half Moon Cay, but it is nearly as beautiful as Castaway Cay.

I have lots of information about Half Moon Cay, if anyone has any questions.

I've been looking into Holland America for a future cruise. Their recently announced improvements to ships, dining, children's programs, and Half Moon Cay sound wonderful. Thanks for the pictures!

Bud,

We've cruised twice on DCL and twice on HAL. We thoroughly enjoyed both cruise lines, and found the experiences different but both very enjoyable.

We did not use the kids clubs on HAL, but we didn't hear any negatives about it while onboard.

We found the dining pretty comparable, the entertainment more grown-up oriented on HAL (as you would expect), HAL had casinos, Disney was more $$$... I'd do either cruise line again without hesitation!

Different styles, both lots of fun. :sunny:
