We are staying at POP Feb 19th - 25th and I am wondering how the half marathon will affect our plans?!? Are the crowds going to be crazy due to the marathon & the fact it's also part of President's Day week?

And I can't seem to find a lot of information on it - such as which days & what parks will be affected?

Thanks for any information you can give me!

this sums it up well from an outside perspective.

for a good schedule of all of the events taking place, check out the RunDisney website. it has the start times and a lot of the logistics information. but basically: all of the races (5K on friday, 10K on saturday, half on sunday) start and end at epcot, with the half going to the magic kingdom and back. the 5k and 10k should both be over before the park opens and shouldn't really affect much. the half will be finishing up around the time of park open and does go through the middle of future world so it may be kind of congested.

as long as you are using disney transportation on race days, you should be fine in that regard. as far as if crowds will be crazy, there are about 28K people running, and as admission isn't included, not all will be going to the parks afterwards. i would being willing to bet that most people will be staying at epcot or going to magic kingdom to get pictures with their medals but i don't think it will really make things too much more crowded. someone who has been there in the past though may know better though.:thumbsup2

Well now I'm all stressed out!! I checked out the link above & according to that my plans are a disaster for the most part!:lmao:

Sigh.

I'm a big believer in "pixie dust" & it is what you make of it - I mean it IS DISNEY! But at the same time......should I adjust my schedule? The biggest issue is Epcot. We LOVE Epcot & we are not rope drop people, we are nighttime EMH people! But I'm curious if the crowds will really be that bad that it would be worth changing a few days around.

Sigh. Again.

I love Disney planning but sometimes it stresses me out - but maybe I'm just looking into it too much. I mean, it can't possibly be crowded enough to ruin my day - right? Right!

Thanks for you help...........or for listening to the small rant. :thumbsup2

From my experience in running the race, a lot of people seem to end up at EPCOT or MK. EPCOT because the race ends there, and MK to celebrate. After my first run we went to AK,and almost no one was there. DHS was equally empty.

The resorts also seem to empty out after the race day - many people just come to race and go home. Also, many racers are local, so they only go the parks either after the parks or they head home.

Personally, I was too damn tired to do anything after the race! :faint: The next day however I was able to really tour the parks and noticed a surprising uptick in the crowds.

LOL. After last years Princess 1/2 my 2 daughters (ages 38 & 31) wanted to do the parks. Ended up at Epcot late afternoon and they decided they wanted to "eat and drink their way around the World". We'll be back down in a couple of weeks for this years then going to Disneyland in August for their 1/2.
