hi

am currently looking at our dining options for our trip in June, was wondering wot people think of half board option we were thinking of the premium option as want to dine at inventions, auberge and Walts etc but not sure if should go for the meal plan, does the premium option cover the full amount in inventions and auberge, wot happens is you go for the cheaper option can you use the vouchers and pay the remainder

TIA

The dining plans at dlp are restrictive and not great value for money so i personally wouldnt bother with them. just put the money you have budgeted for meals onto a prepay travelcard and use that to pay for your meals at dlp, wherever you fancy eating.

yes you can use cheaper half board plan vouchers to pay towards the cost of more expensive meals, at participating restaurants at dlp.

hi my mum has decided that buying the premium vouchers would be good value as she wants to do intentions twice cafe mickey and auberge. was wondering if anyone could tell me this

if staying for 4nights wed to Sun and bought the half board voucher you get one per night ie wed thur Fri sat does it matter when you use them eg could i use them thur Fri sat Sun, hope someone understands this thanks

you can use them anytime during your stay, including on the day you check out :). Just thought I'd mention though, Cafe Mickey isn't on the premium plan. Neither is the Inventions Sunday brunch, if that was one of your choices for meals.

Thats great thanks for that, i thought it was, i think its on the plus but am assuming can use them there even though they the premium ones i think with the cash price for inventions and auberge it should work ok thank you for advising me

if you are using them at face value in two restaurants then you wont be saving anything as you just spend up to what they cost. if your meal total comes to under the value of the voucher you wont get any change.

sorry what i meant was the cost of the voucher is £45 but auberge meal is ¬65 and inventions is around ¬55/¬60 so would work better value i think

You'd have to pay the difference if you use them face value. If you want to save, you have to eat in listed restaurants.

yeah i understand that was thinking of if you take the cost of a premium voucher and are using it in inventions or auberge as they are listed then you are gettin good savings - i think lol

you have to do math very well, otherwise you'd loose money. I doubt you would have meals only in Auberge or Inventions. These half board options are too restrictive and you can save only eating in certain restaurants and you just don't have a choice. If you decide to eat at plaza gardens or Mickey's cafe you would loose money when getting premium.

how many days are you going for and do you know where you want to eat.

if you are using them in auberge and inventions yes there is a saving there. you also need to remember your price is in pounds and the price online for food is in euros so the saving isn't as big as it looks.

so lets just say for the auberge for an adult meal there is a saving of roughly 5 euros. if you eat elsehwhere that the food is cheaper then you could lose that 5 euro or more. work it out by the total saved not by each meal.

if you are eating anywhere other than the places only on the premium level then you will be losing money on your vouchers.

one trip i actually sat with my list and did the math, it ended up i could eat cheaper without the vouchers especially as where i wanted to eat covered a each tier of the dining plan.

We don't bother with the vouchers and dining plan now, we used to use it a few years ago when you actualy made a saving but now it works out much cheaper to pay for your meals in cash.

Now this had me thinking we bought hslf board is there anywhere when I can find what restaurants we can use them in ?

Brochures have this information look on websites that have menus too so you can see prices. If you do your homework and find at out the right places you can save a small amount of money using half board but one trip to the wrong restaurant can mean you have paid out more. We have done half board on both of our visits, more for the knowledge we have a meal paid for each day so easier to budget our daily spends rather than saving money.

We've bought the premium half board vouchers as we're staying at DLH. There are 2 of us. I've booked Inventions for the night we arrive and the Auberge de Cendrillon for lunch one day which will use 2 of our 5 days' vouchers. I'm reading that unless we eat only in Premium restaurants we will lose money and that they are only good value if we eat 3 courses every day. So I've had a few thoughts about our options.

Could we use one of the vouchers between us at face value for lunch and again for dinner at a counter restaurant paying any difference in cash?

If we eat at a standard plan buffet can we use the difference between the cash cost of a meal there and the value of the premium voucher to pay for extra drinks? Also if we were to eat a main course only from the "a la carte" menu will we be allowed to use the remaining face value to cover drinks? Are we allowed to use them to pay for alcoholic drinks?

I understand these options won't save us any money but they might better reflect how we want to eat most days as neither of us are huge eaters which I think might be required to get best value at the buffet restaurants.

Yes, you can use the vouchers at face value to cover say a main meal and drinks. But this can only be done at the table service restaurants or buffets. You can't use these for counter service.
