We don't qualify, but there are plenty of soldiers, marines and sailors who have had long deployments or are on R&R that have earned a week or two in paradise! The Hale Koa, on the best stretch of Waikiki Beach in Honolulu is offering a 30% discount on their usual fantastic room rates, meals, etc (as well as no tax) to those who are on R&R or have returned from a 12 month deployment. If you can get to Hawaii, you will never see such a great deal! www.halekoa.com

if you go to armymwr.com and click on travel there are also some very nice packages at shades and at edlwiess in garmisch-you do have to be on EML leave from or have completed a 12 month deployment in the CENTCOM AOR to qualify-and you have to have a DA31 leave authorization. There is also a really great package to austrialia-something like 800 dollars air and hotel from SFO that is available thru ITR offices. The austrialia package is open to anyone who qualifies to use ITR including guard and reserves-you dont have to be on leave from Iraq or afghanistan

Love the Hale Koa. If DH's R & R can't be arranged for our already reserved 11 day southern Carribbean DCL cruise...it is the Hale Koa for us. I don't care which one we end up with, they tie for the best vacations we've ever had. We are anxious to try the Edelweiss lodge too, but I'd prefer to go there in the summer.

We just came back a few weeks ago from the Hale Koa, had a great time, awesome hotel. DH is active duty but this was not a R&R trip. Make sure to get the new tower!
