Hakuna Matata - Speedy September

Rick: I'm amazed by the distance you've run lately. :thumbsup2

I am a little amazed too. I keep looking back and feeling surprised and blessed that I have been able to incorporate a consistent level of exercise and just general 'activity' into my life. And looking at where I was last September and comparing it to where I am today is kinda mind-blowing.

At the beginning of my high school Christian Education class today (my wife and I teach the high school class), my son says to me (with a serious look on his face), "Dad, this is an intervention. You have a serious running addiction." :rotfl2: It was pretty funny!

Well this was the end of my first week of tapering for the Marathon. I posted about it in my blog today, and included a really funny video I found called "Dealing with a pre-race Marathon Diva". I may not be a diva, but I thought it was very appropriate. :rotfl:

Hope everyone had a great weekend and WISHing you the best for the upcoming week!

Good Morning Team!

Elizabeth - I just peel and core the peaches, smash them with potato masher in the pan, and cook them down with sugar and spices. Easy but time consuming.

Dave - Glad you had a good trip!

Mary - Have fun at WDW!

Rick - Good luck dealing with that “running addiction” - LOL

AFM - Sorry I have been MIA for a few days. We did have a great bike ride yesterday - Ft. Collins CSU Ram Classic - we did the 35 mile option. It was a beautiful day. Glad we opted for the shorter ride, as not being on a bike much lately made me rather sore, but I felt good after the ride.

Mary: We are at EPCOT on the same day so I'm going to look for you. :thumbsup2 I am corral C for the race. I'll be wearing purple sparkly Minnie Ears and bib 6545 that night so say hello if you see me.

Dave: Welcome back! I'm not excited about the humidity part of your trip report. It is finally getting cool here and I can't believe I signed on for a race in FL when the humidity and temps are still high. The forecast is for 87F the day of the race and 74F by race start.

Lynn: I'll have to try peach butter some time. We regularly make apple butter but I never thought to change the fruit. Sounds delicious.

AFM: This morning I had my check up with the endocrinologist. The suspicious mass that they've been watching in my throat for the past year is gone. That means I can say I am cancer free for 15 years now. I've lost 15 pounds since my last visit too. :cool1: The weight loss is probably short-lived though, as I already have a list of must-try foods (and libations) for this weekend at the Food and Wine festival. I enjoyed a 6-mile run yesterday morning. I have another one on Tuesday and Thursday. Then I'm off to run with the Mouse (and Mary)!

Good Morning Team!

Elizabeth - I have done fruit butters with plums, crab apples, apples, pears and peaches. They are easier to make than jelly or jam because you do not have to have exact quantities, just cook down fruit and and 1/4 to 1/2 as much sugar and some spices.

AFM- we are starting a weight routine, yesterday we went downstairs to the bowflex machine and did upper body weights together, I guess today will be lower body, but we are first planning a bike ride before the expected afternoon rain.

Raining again today, looks like indoor activity, but I have a lot of house cleaning to do, Scott's parents visiting next week.

Present! :)

I am tapering before the Chicago Marathon, posting on my blog, and trying to keep from getting sick this close to,the race. I have a run planned with a friend of mine after work today which will be fun. Not sure how far he wants to go. Thursday is a run with my marathon training group followed by pizza! Then Sunday is my last Long Run before the race. Eeeek! It's getting more and more real everyday!!!!

I want to wish Elizabeth, Mary & Mary's DH good luck on Saturday with your ToT race. I am very jealous!!!

I have my 7 mile mud run/obstacle course on Saturday. It is my first race in 2 years and first race above a 5k ever. A little nervous. Ran 8 miles on Saturday. The training went very well. Trying to rest this week. Took Sunday and Monday off. (Normally run mon). Ran last night instead. Did a slow, easy 3 miles. Had aching shinsplints. Will run tomorrow for another easy 3 miles. Hopefully I will feel better for that one. I'll rest Friday and hit the course hard on Saturday.

Still, wish I was running to the Tower of Terror instead! :)

Good Morning Team!

Rick - good luck on the Chicago race!

AFM - raining here all day, did get some upper body weights in and 1/2 hour on the spin bike, got dogs out in a break from the rain. Today will probably be similar.

Good Morning Team!

I guess yesterday was a rest day, as we did not do anything other than walk dogs and clean house.

This is actually a major reduction compared to this year's race schedule. LOL

If I survive the first three months of 2013, Disney plus the two other Fulls, then I will coast through the rest of the year. :)

Good Morning Team!

Good luck to all those running this weekend!

Rick - very impressive!

Vicky - hope you had a good lunch with Sue!

AFM - we did get out for bike ride yesterday, did 13 miles. Weather should be improving now, no more rain in forecast for a bit.

Have a great weekend team!

Hope this works; I am using my new phone. I am on the bus headed to the race. It's all fun from this point!

Hello team! Welcome to our new team members!

Robbie - I thought I'd chime in with my opinion of WDW vs DL. I prefer DL over WDW. I like the weather and course better at DL, plus travel to the race is pretty easy for me. At WDW, I didn't like the walk to the corrals or the weather (but I'm from So Cal so you should probably take that with a grain of salt). I was also stressed and not well trained for WDW so that probably colors my opinion. But, I don't think you can go wrong with either race.

Mary and Elizabeth - Hope you're having a great time at WDW!

Tom - Hope your race went well.

Rick - That's an impressive race schedule for next year!

AFM - Went running for the first time in almost 2 weeks today. I did about 3 miles, it was a bit rough but I made it through.

I also tried my forerunner 410 for the first time. It's alright, I'm not sure if I'll keep it yet. I did an interval workout and found out that autopause doesn't work when you do a workout with the watch. Autopause was one of the reasons I got the watch so I'm not happy. I assume that also means I can't use the virtual pacer with an interval workout either, but I've yet to try it out. The touch bezel is ok, it is annoying when it doesn't do what I want but I can probably deal with it.

My mom came for a visit last week. We took her on a studio tour, to Disneyland, and we saw the space shuttle Endeavour arrive in LA. The studio tour was fun because we got to see the Bing Bang Theory set and the Friends coffee shop set. Seeing the space shuttle was also really cool. We camped out for 3-4 hours and it was totally worth it :goodvibes

Have a good night!
Emily

Good Morning Team!

Elizabeth - Posting from new phone worked fine. Hope you had a great race!

Emily - It would have been fun to watch the space shuttle arrive, I watched it on TV, but just not the same.

AFM - Not much to say for yesterday, did get in dog walk and upper body weights, ran errands. Today we are helping with a cyclocross race with a pot luck afterwards, brownies are in the oven.

Have a great day team!
