Good luck Rick and Kimberley!

BTW, I think I am going to race tomorrow, the ADL Golden Mile. As the name implies, it is only a single mile...so don't expect a very long race report!

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Robbie

That's great! I ran a 1-mile race last fall and it was so much fun. An all out sprint for a mile to see how fast you can go when you don't have to worry about going out too fast. LOL

I could not find a 1-mile race this year in Chicagoland. Very disappointed in that.

You should check out www.marathontalk.com they have an awesome weekly podcast and are doing a worldwide 1-mile event. You can post your 1-mile time on their site under "Team USA". It is just a 'fun' thing. Their podcast and www.themarathonshow.com are my two favorite podcasts about running.

Good luck to Rick and Kimberly!

Robbie: Did you do the mile race? I love those; they are great to take the kids or when running solo, you can just open it up and see just how fast you are! ;)

Welcome, Hung!

Just finished a six-mile hike this morning, in the rain. I wasn't wearing the proper shoes so my feet were soaked and I developed a nice size blister on my heel. I have Band Aid blister pads but they don't seem to be thick enough. I want to keep running so does anyone know of another blister pad that is better?

Also, my hands are swollen this morning. I frequently experience this on longer runs and in races due to over hydration. That wasn't the problem this morning. I was out late last night at a football game, had 3 beers, lots of salty food, and not enough water. Can I experience the same swelling from lack of hydration?

Enjoy the rest of the weekend, everyone!

Congrats to Rick with his run this weekend!

AFM - I put in 8 miles for my 1/2 Training for the Monumental 1/2 coming up in November. I had some gastro issues yesterday, so I think I was a bit dehydrated today when I went out for this run this morning. I didn't fuel up well before going out, just 1 energy gel and took along some G2 Gatorade. I couldn't get into any type of good pace and pretty much suffered for the first 5 miles. At 5 miles I seemed to come into it only to run out of steam a short while later. I should have taken another gel with me to give me a boost while I was out.

Next week's schedule "Only" calls for a 5k race Saturday. From looking around there are actually some going on next Saturday, so I may look to see how much they are and maybe go for one of them.

KippWade...Boy, do I understand! I went out today hoping to do 8 miles, but ran out of steam after 6. Like you, I only took one gel and water with me. I feel like if I'd had a second gel, I could have done the last two miles. Ken and I are signed up for the ToT in two weeks. I may have to walk more than I'd like, (as I've not gone past the 7 mile mark this time training) but I'm really concerned about Ken. He has been having some knee pain and laid off running for almost a month. Went to the ortho and he found nothing wrong. Today when we were out, after about 4 miles he said his knee was hurting, so he cut back to my slow pace. As I type this he is sacked out on the couch! I have no worries that I can complete the ten miles, and knowing him, he will push through to finish, but it's not worth it if he gets injured. Prayers and pixie dust for him please!

Hi team! Happy Monday! Hope everyone had a great weekend!

Mary - Lots of PD for Ken! I hope his knee gets better in time. Keep resting and icing! Good job on your 6 miler! I've had the same thing happen to me before.

Kipp - Sorry to hear about the stomach issues. I know what that's like. Good job on getting in the 8 miler!

Rick - Congrats on your 20 miler race! Can't wait to hear about it!

Elizabeth - Ouch on the blisters! I remember seeing these blister bandaids at the drugstore - they specifically had an extra layer or a "bubble" to protect the blister. I hope it gets better soon.

Hung - I will likely get the iPhone or a Samsung. I have the 3GS so I'm in need of an upgrade. I'm leaning toward the iPhone because so many people I know have an iPhone and it's easier to send them text messages.

AFM - I've watched four TIFF movies since Friday - 'Cloud Atlas', 'Thermae Romae', 'The Paperboy' and 'Reincarnated'. My favourite of the festival is 'Cloud Atlas' :) 'Thermae Romae' was a foreign langauge film - it's about a Roman architect who gets transported to modern day Japan and borrows ideas on how to create bath houses in Rome. It's funny because most of the Romans are played by Japanese actors. And 'The Paperboy' was actually a red carpet event. I didn't know this otherwise I would have worn something other than jeans and a t-shirt. Zac Efron was there I was on the red carpet about five people behind him LOL I felt seriously underdressed! There were people there in jeans but there were also people dressed up. Oh well. :)

Glad to have seen all 9 movies but I'm also glad that it's done.

And I finally managed to get my race report up for the Disneyland Half. If you're interested, it's on my blog.

Ok back to work :) Hope everyone is having a great day!

Just off the Magic, at Newark Airport waiting for plane. I will have to catch up on everything later.

Welcome Hung!

Pixie Dust to all who are in need!

Aaron/Hung: I have some Google stock, so until I sell it, I can’t see myself getting an iPhone...even though I fully realize my piddly smartphone purchase would not make the tiniest bit of difference in either companies stock price.

Elizabeth: I am pretty sure salt in your diet does make you retain water, so if you ate a lot of it, it is understandable if you have a little swelling.

Kipp: Everyone has runs that feel crappy from time to time. Good for you for keeping it up until you felt better.

Mary: Positive thoughts for Ken!

Rick: Nice going on the 20 miler!

Vicky: Great Race report and congrats of the Coast-to-Coast Medal! All things considered, if a person could only do one Disney half marathon, would you recommend WDW or DL?

Lynn: Hope you had a great time in the Maritimes!

AFM: Well I did my mile race on Saturday, finished it in 6:38. Although I ran pretty hard, I think I could have chopped of another 10-15 seconds if wasn’t for a headwind and a slightly congested start. The race was on an open traffic road and we only had a small section of it pyloned off…maybe enough for 3 runners to go side by side. There was a number of kids in the race and they felt the need to line up in the front at the start, so I spent the first 150 yards or so making sure I did not steamroll little people.

This week is my final hard week before I start to taper for my first marathon. I am scheduled to run about 55 miles and it culminates in a 20-mile progression run on Sunday. Then begins the 3 week taper until the big day on the14th

Hope everyone has a great week
Robbie

Good morning, everyone,

Lyn: Welcome back! How happy were the dogs to see you?:goodvibes

Kipp: Good luck finding a 5k for your next training run.

Mary: PD to Ken! Where are you staying for ToT?

Vicky: Great race report! I'm surprised at the number of differences in DL and WDW races. :confused3 Remember that I got one of those boxes at the last Princess half? The items were different but of similar type. I had hummus instead of peanut butter, etc. So you didn't get the extra candies, bananas, bagels, Powerade, and sodas too? The box is a great idea but nothing that I want or that I'm used to refueling with when I finish a race. I tend to stick to the traditional items to avoid stomach issues.

Robbie: During the Magnificent Mile run here, competitive runners line up first, followed by the fun runners. The course is 3 lanes wide. I'm thinking you could have chopped off more than 15 seconds with the right set up. Good luck with the final push this week. You are probably right about my salt intake resulting in water retention. I was only thinking of the dehydrating effects of the alcohol. I'll avoid the salty foods for this Saturday's game.

AFM: I tried to run last night but my blister began bleeding about 3 miles in so I finished with a 7-mile bike session. A fellow runner told me to use Dr. Scholl's blister pads along with duct tape so I'll try that next.

Happy training, everyone!

Good Morning Team!

Robbie - Thanks, we did have a great time, but not enough time in either port!

Elizabeth - I do not go to pick up dogs for another half hour - got in too late last night to pick them up at kennel. I am sure they will be glad to see us!

AFM - We were both up early this morning - Scott earlier than I - will go pick up dogs shortly, then unpack, laundry, errands, make the grape jelly - the juice has been sitting in the fridge for 2 weeks now! This time we will be home long enough to get back into a regular schedule!

Pixie dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day team!

Elizabeth...We are staying at VWL. We have stayed at BCV for our last two trips to WDW because we were there primarily for Food and Wine. The only way that I could convince Ken to go was to promise him that we would stay at our favorite resort, VWL. So, that means we'll be driving ourselves to the start and driving ourselves home afterwards. Are you going to be in the ToT?

Rained all day here yesterday. Planned to get up and go out this morning, but I woke up a little after midnight last night and couldn't get back to sleep until close to 3:00 a.m. Slept until 7:30; could have slept longer but insurance adjuster was scheduled to come here at 8:30, so not enough time to get out today. Busy day tomorrow so I'll shoot for going out on Thursday.

Hi team! Happy Wednesday!

Mary - How's Ken doing? I occasionally have those nights where I can't get to sleep at a reasonable hour. Take it easy today! Are you packed for ToT?

Lynn - Welcome back! How was the cruise? Grape jelly is my favourite! Can't wait to hear how your's turns out :)

Elizabeth - Ouch on the blister :( Let me know how the duct tape and bandaid works. The water and Poweraded were located before the lineup for the photos. They were limiting runners to 1 bottle each which given the temperature wasn't a good idea. IMO, it's cheaper to give someone an extra bottle or two rather than to call an ambulance after someone passes out from dehydration. There were bananas available but I don't like them. No bagels. I hope WDW isn't going that way. Let me know what kind of food you have available after the ToT race.

Robbie - Congrats on your race! I never understand race directors who let kids line up at the start in front of adults. It's a disaster waiting to happen. Most runners look ahead and not down and it would be really easy to miss a little one and trip. It's dangerous for the kids and adults!

I would do WDW over DL. I'm glad I went - the course was nice and not having to wake up at 2AM was a bonus. But I definitely prefer WDW in terms of organization.

Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

Good Morning Team!

Vicki - The grape jelly is coming out good, did 4 batches 6 jars each yesterday, ran out of pectin and sugar, so need to hit the store this morning for the last batch.

AFM - got the dog walk in this morning, has been a bit windy here, may hit the spin bike in the basement later today.

Pixie Dust to all who are in need.

Have a great day all!

Hello team! Happy International Talk Like a Pirate Day!pirate:

Just a quick post tonight, hopefully I can catch up next week. Work has been keeping me busy and my mom is arriving tonight for a visit.

The DL Half went well for DH and I, we got a PB. We finished in 2:52:10 including stops for the bathroom and pictures, so we were happy with the result. We were also excited to get our C2C medal! I also had a very nice post-race lunch with Vicky.:goodvibes The things I didn't like about the race this year: I felt the parks were more crowded than I've noticed in previous races. I was getting a bit frustrated trying to run because of all the crowding. The ART buses were not good this year. DH had to wait 45 min for a bus back to our hotel. This is the first time we've had a problem with the buses.

I just got a Garmin Forerunner. I was torn between the 210 and 410. I ended up getting the 410 because it had more features and the price was about the same as the 210 on Amazon. I'm most uncertain about the touch bezel on the watch, but I can return it so I decide to try it out. I haven't gotten to go for a run with it yet, probably won't be able to until next week.

The space shuttle Endeavour arrives in LA on Friday! I'm hoping I can see it during it's flyover of the city.

Have a good night!
Emily

Good Morning Team!

Emily - have fun with the new Garmin!

AFM - still no exercise to speak of, still was busy with unpacking and making grape jelly, ended up with enough juice for 2 more batches yesterday - all done now! But now we are talking about trying to buy some peaches when we in FT Collins,CO on Sunday for a bike ride, if we find some, that will mean making peach butter. It is getting rather cool and dark in the early mornings for our dog walk, may have to change schedule and take them after breakfast when the sun had come up and temp has risen a bit. Will be trying for a bike ride today.

Pixie dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day all!

Well I finally got my RR done for the 20-mile race. Check it out here. So tired... Going to bed.

Sending PD to all in need! Here"s to a cool, fun, active weekend!

Good Morning Team!

We finally did get out for bike ride, did 11 miles yesterday, and it felt great to get on the bikes again!

Good luck to all who might be racing this weekend!

Pixie Dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day all!

Happy Friday, everyone!

Emily and Vicky: Thanks for the East Coast/West Coast comparisons. I'll let you know what they provide at ToT next Saturday. I too hope the differences aren't a trend.

Rick: I'm amazed by the distance you've run lately. :thumbsup2

Lyn: Peach butter sounds amazing. Do you use crushed peaches or just the juice?

AFM: I'm heading to another football game tomorrow but I'll avoid the beer and salt. My running schedule is off a bit this week so I'll have a run tonight, followed by a long run on Sunday. Next week I'll run Tuesday and Thursday, then it is off to Disney!:cool1:

Happy training; enjoy the weekend!

Elizabeth...We are staying at VWL. Are you going to be in the ToT?

Yes, I hope to see you there! We are staying at POFQ. I'll arrive late Thursday and we have to head home on Monday. We are going to MNSSHP on Friday night and EPCOT F&W festival on Sunday night. Will you have a chance to do any of the parks? What corral are you in?

We are back and vacation is over. We stayed at the Pop and it wasn't bad, did miss the inroom coffee, bigger beds and having a balcony but it wasn't bad. We took the advice and got a top floor so the noise wasn't any worse than the Boardwalk was.

It rained everyday we were there and the humidity was intense, actually feels good to be back home and cool again. We did a lot of walking of course and ate to much as usual. We ate off campus several times since a steak potato and salad at Longhorn, Logan's and a good pasta dinner at Olive Garden was about the same price as a walk up in the parks. We had the car and the restraunts were only about 5 miles from the hotel.

We didn't do much in the Magic Kingdom since it was major crowded everyday and the other parks were not. We did the whole animal kingdom without any waits at all.

Hope everyone had a super week and good luck to all who are doing the ToT.

We arrive Friday afternoon. Haven't made any plans for Friday, except to go to the expo. Think we might check out the new Fanstasyland on Saturday morning, then go to Epcot for F&W on Sunday afternoon. I think I am in corral D and Ken is in B. We are headed home on Monday as well.
