Hakuna Matata - Speedy September

Good Morning Team!

Vicky - It was also great spending time with you! We are now off to the Disney Magic to Canada out of NYC (Halifax and Saint John), 5 day cruise. We like DL for the closeness of everything, I like that we can walk from hotel to DL to Calif Adventure and DTD. Too bad grocery stores are not in easy walking distance.

Rick - Glad you had good weather for your race! Sorry you did not PR, but it was the right thing to do to slow down for your friend!

Elizabeth - Thanks, I am a little better today.

AFM - Still no exercise to speak of, one ride to mailbox (for the newspaper). This morning I did walk dogs around the block, which brought on a coughing fit, but I have now recovered from that. Have some errands to run today, tomorrow off to Newark Airport - ship leaves Wed. from NYC.

Pixie dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day team!

Love the medal! Any lingering hip pain today?
!

I woke up this morning with just a slit twinge in that hip, so some stretching helped to loosen that up. Other than that, just tired legs and a little soreness in the knee. Not bad at all. :)

Rick - Congrats on another successful finish! Monumental Half just really seems to be speeding our way now!

AFM - Dad absolutely skunked me last week in our weight loss competition. He's started back on a diet that usually works well for him and he lost 5 lbs! I gained one  I'm STILL in the 240's.

I've been able to chart out some issues, whenever we have pizza over the weekend, I gain. We don't, I loose. So, I'm thinking, it has way too many carbs for me to handle. So back to trying to watch the carbs like a hawk again too. It also means no more pizzas over the weekend :(

In my training schedule for the aforementioned Monumental Half here in Indy, it was time for me to do 7 miles over the weekend. I didn't quite make 7 miles, as some gastro issues led me to slow down for the last half of my trip and get home as quickly as I could muster. I had spent 2 hours mowing the lawn in the morning and also had done grocery shopping. So I'm sure that my full day of activities had my body revolting against me when I was out for my run.

A local grocery has marked down the Gatorade G2 single add-to-water packs and I picked up purple and red (Grape and Fruit Punch). I'm guessing that the drastic drop in price they had was an indication that they're getting rid of them.

It's finally cooler and less humid! Yesterdays run would have been really fantastic if it hadn't been for the other issue I had. I've also had some less sunny days and switched to the All Condition Red lenses on my Tifosi Tyrant sunglasses and they are very nice for those lower light level times, but still a little helpful when the sun did decide to poke out. I fear that the time will come too soon that I will have to switch to the clear lenses because it will be dark and snowy out... bleh.

Kipp: Be careful not to eliminate all carbs from your diet if you are also training for a race, you still need to have enough glycogen for your runs. Pizza does not have to be an evil villain either. I make one with whole wheat dough, very little (sometimes no) cheese, a little bit of lean meat, and lots of onions, mushrooms and peppers. Healthy and delicious.

Lynn: You are going to Halifax? That is like a 3 hour drive from me and I go there several times a year to visit relatives and friends. Too bad you are not stopping in Charlottetown (where I live). But Halifax is a very nice and historic city, I am sure you will have a great time. Weatherman says the region is supposed to have pleasant weather over the nest 5-6 days too!

Elizabeth: I had to laugh what you said about your nephew and the grocery bill. I recall my grandparents saying the exact same thing when I moved in with them when I went to university.

Rick: Congrats again on your race.

Vicky: I am with you, WDW over DL anyday, although I only been to the latter once, and that was before California Adventure. Thanks for the suggestions for my half day at WDW, it never really dawned on me to go to AKL to see the animals…I guess it was in my head that they were only for resort guests.

AFM: After a 23 miler last week I did a 24 miler this past Sunday. Unfortunately it was not a positive experience like the week before. It was pouring rain and had strong winds for a significant portion of the run…I think we got the tail end of some hurricane. I was not going to go out in the weather but I figured race day could very well be like that, like it was two years ago…so it would be beneficial to experience it in training first. Weather aside, I am somewhat happy/relieved that the last week was the peak terms of mileage in my program: I have a step back week this week, then one more hard-ish week, then a three week taper to lead me into the marathon. I think I may take a week off after the marathon…then back at it as it will be only 12 weeks until Goofy!

Hi team!

Robbie - We had a rainy weekend too. I think it was the remnants from a hurricane or a storm that was making it's way north. You can walk around all of AKL. A few years ago, they use to give tours of Boma and Jiko where you could talk to the chefs. That usually takes an hour or so. I'm not sure if they do that anymore but it was a lot of fun!

WTG! On your 24 miler! How many miles are you planning for your next LR? Your whole wheat pizza sounds yummy!

Kipp - I'm trying to find some new lenses for my sunglasses too. The ones I have now are a touch too dark for overcast days.

I usually cut back on the carbs Monday to Wednesday and then I slowly start adding them back into my diet Thurs-Sat. I find that I need to do a bit of carb loading for long runs otherwise I feel like I don't have enough energy. Like Robbie, I try to stick to whole wheat pastas and bread or brown rice. I also try to eliminate foods with added sugars or I'll save them for my cheat day (usually the same day as my LR).

Kim - :wave2:

Rick - Glad to hear you're feeling better! What kind of miles are you planning this weekend? Will check out your RR shortly :)

Lynn - I like the closeness of the parks too and it feels like the rides inside the parks are closer together ... I think it was just the CMs and then walking back to the hotel at night where I was missing the magic. If I go again, I'd try to stay at the Disney hotels. Safe travels! Can't wait to hear about your cruise :)

Elizabeth - Hope your 6 miler went well! Yikes on the grocery bill but maybe your nephew can take the girls out on the weekend so you and DH can have an date night? :) Yes, the film festival is definitely a lot of fun! I never went before because the tickets were pricey. If you want to go to a gala (the one the celebrities attend), you have to reserve those tickets months ahead of time and they cost about $40 (I think). I'm getting my tickets from friends who work in film. The catch is that they can't get tickets until a day or two before the film so there are some I haven't been able to see.

AFM - I went to the gym for the first time since I got back from vacation. It wasn't too bad :) There was a new exercise challenge posted that was half weight exercises and half cardio. The cardio portion includes 3,000 strides on the elliptical trainer and a 2 mile run. I'm trying to figure out how fast to do the run but still be able to do the elliptical and then the weights. The whole thing feels like it's going to be at least 30 minutes ... then of course the prize is a 30 minute training session so I'm not sure it's necessarily "worth it".

I'm going to see a documentary after work called 'More than Honey' after work. It's about bees :)

I also posted a recipe for granola - Tropical Protein Loaded Granola. Check it out if you have a chance.

Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

Thanks. Now I am dealing with either a slight cold or allergies. Hope it blows over by Sunday. I have my 20-miler then. I think I will put in another 30 miles this week. And then it's taper time!

Hi team, another pop resort question. If I have a refillable mug can I use it at counter service other than pop?

I'm taking 2 weeks off to try to heal.

Dave

Officially no. But is anyone going to stop you? No. :rolleyes1 I've seen people fill up all kinds of containers at the food courts. The only "drawback" is that you'll have to bring the mug around with you to the parks.

Can i join the Elite Group here? Anyone Doing the Goofy Race?

Lol! Never heard anyone call us 'elite' before. We are just regular folk here, and you are welcome to be a part of our team.

We have several team members doing Goofy/Dopey in 2013 (some of us have done it more than once). This will be my first Dopey. :)

Happy Friday team! Hope everyone is doing well! I've been busy with work since I got back home and then I've been going to TIFF screenings at night. It's a little bit exhausting. I'll be around more next week.

Of course you can join! :welcome: Several of us are doing Goofy :thumbsup2

"WISH" me luck because I have been in bed sick since Wednesday. I went out for a short walk/run yesterday morning which felt good (and took a nap right afterwards). Due to being sick, can't say I have been eating much. So hopefully today and tomorrow I can get some carbs in, stretch, and be able to toe the line on Sunday at 7am. Definitely going to be taking it slow on Sunday....

Good luck Rick and Kimberley!

BTW, I think I am going to race tomorrow, the ADL Golden Mile. As the name implies, it is only a single mile...so don't expect a very long race report!

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Thanks!

Usually I am the gadget nut and would have ordered it. I love the new iPhone but I think I am going to control myself and wait a bit. I have the iPhone 4S and love it so I don't feel compelled to buy the 5 right away. Besides, the online sales were sold out within the first HOUR! LOL

Maybe I will get it as a reward to myself for completing Dopey. Of course, by then all the hype will be beginning for the next iPad.... LOL
