Hakuna Matata - Let's rocket our Independence!

Yes Vicky lean all about investing so you can tell me how to make the money I need to get free of my ex and help my daughter actually get on her feet where she and her husband can finally support themselves.:cloud9:

Vicky, you are a good and kind woman, your words have helped me every bit as much as mine have comforted you. But hey that's the meaning of friendship right? You, Margie, Connie, Robert, Mike, Scott, lynn, Kimmer and many others have helped me through my recent trials.

Dave:hippie:

Happy Independence Day, TEAM!!!

Margie - No, I didn't have problems with my 305, but I was having some problems with my auto Garmin and had to order a new part. I got to looking around at Garmin.com and found out that you can do this with almost all of the Garmin products. Some products cost more and some less, but sure is cheaper than throwing one away and buying new!

Dave - I have found with my own children, the more you help; the less they can do for themselves. Benjamin Franklin said it well when he commented that if you make people comfortable in their poverty, they have no reason to leave it. IF they need a car, a used car is good enough! Afterall, you don't drive a new car!! I am not saying you don't help, but there is a difference between helping them get on their feet and crippling them from kindness!!! You should talk to your attorney about the Honda or better yet, quit paying on it. What is she going to do, take you to court...before or after she pays for it.

Vickie - Boy, are we two peas in a pod, this week! Colds and backs! Now if I could just get buff, like you!

Scott - Take care of that knee!

What Margie said!

I am working on a new fitness idea. My doctor suggested that I do it when I am not training for a race. It is interval training...but different from what we normally think of as intervals. It starts with a warm up of between 1-5 minutes followed by an intense interval working at approximately 50% of peak, for 30 to 45 seconds, (or longer if you can). Then you do recovery for about 2 minutes or until you are compeletly recovered and breathing normally. That's followed by an interval of 75% of peak performance for about 20 to 30 seconds, again followed by a recovery. Finally, you hit 100% peak for at least 10 seconds, (as in ..you are running for your life!!), followed by recovery and then hit your 50% interval again and cool down. It's hard to do on a treadmill, but you can work into it. It's much easier to do on an exercise bike or a regular bike. It is supposed to keep your cardiovascular system in peak performance even when you are suffering injury. THe whole thing shouldn't take more than 30 minutes, tops! Plus, I am still going to fit P90X in. No plateaus, any more!

See ya! Connie

Connie, yes what you said. I will be helping them help themselves. That is what I was wanting to do before but was over ruled. My lawyer and I will be meeting next week sometime, we haven't had an answer from her camp yet since she has been in New Jersey and we have the holiday weekend now.

Dave:hippie:

Good Morning Team!

Happy 4th of July to all!

Dave - what Connie said about contacting lawyer on the Honda. When I was dealing with PF, I took Ibruprophen as an anti-inflammatory and slept with a night splint. I still do the stretches to keep it from coming back.

Connie, Vicki, Dave, and anyone else who has been injured - pixiedust:

I did get on the bike downstairs yesterday and did a short walk with the dogs this morning.

Have a great day team!

Dave, sounds like you have a plan, here's hoping the insanity doesn't ruin it!! I am glad you aren't going to cripple those kids! Work is one of the joys of our humanity, even if we claim to hate it. :thumbsup2

Connie and Lynn, yes I'm not going to empower them to stay dependent on others. The Honda was supposed to be a long term solution to their transportation needs. It would have been a car that would have lasted them many years and been very fuel efficient. My plan was to set them up with an apartment close to many places to work, the car and the understanding that at the end of the year they were on their own. But instead I ended up in the apartment and own my own. Hummmm....:upsidedow

Dave:hippie:

Dave - I figure if nothing else, maybe the investment advisors can help me fix my messy portfolio  The joys of DIY investing - it hasn't quite worked out for me :) I will be more than happy to share anything I learn! Good luck with your lawyer on the Honda situation. Keep us posted.

Connie - Remind me never to get into a legal dispute with you! I would have never thought of stopping payment on the car. That's a good one! And I like your quote on crippling someone with kindness. I've thought about that before in the past watching some of my friends but never quite knew how to express it in words. The Benjamin Franklin quote is great!

Good Morning, Team! :wave2:

Good Morning Team!

HOT! HOT! HOT! I so dislike humidity. Temps in the high 80s this week with humidity pushing us into the 90s & low 100s.

Had a great relaxing weekend at the cottage. A lot of walking, a couple of long bike rides & a bike/ run combo.

Vicky, Stay cool. Waiting to hear if you like the fabric band for your Garmin.

Margie, Duathlon is on the 25th.

With the high temps. I will be having a snack after work & wait to run later in the evening.

Haven't had a chance to catch up on all the posts & now I'm off to a meeting
Stay cool & drink lots. Have a great day everyone.........Sue

Good Morning Team!

Margie - knees are still an issue, I was told that the one I had surgery on would be as good as it will get in a year and it will be a year next month - so I think it is now as good as it gets. it is tolerable if I take ibuprofen once to twice a day. At times, the "good knee" hurts more than the "bad knee". I really need to work on weights - that will help both knees.

Dave - pixiedust: and :grouphug: for you today.

Back to watching the tour, then I will get a walk in with the dogs.

Have a great day Team!

Hi team!

I want to apologize to all of you for not checking in lately. I have been a poor team mate.
I ran eight miles today after almost three weeks without any training and my body is mad at me. I'm afraid that I lost my running mojo while doing a race in Chicago a couple of weeks ago. I was about half way out in a 5K and realized that I was miserable and had a "why am I doing this?" moment. It had really put me down and I think I was getting burned out. In the last week and a half all I have done is work and sleep and have been really tired. There is also some family issues that have been weighing on me and keeping me preoccoupied. At work, I've been flying around the store like a maniac and getting more done than I have in a long time. Somehow my energy switched to other outlets without me making a specific decision on doing so!

BUT TODAY, (and thanks to Dave for helping me with this! ) I forced myself out of my doldrums and stepped back towards the right track. I pushed myself to complete the eight miles and really wanted to quit a couple of times. I also knew that it would be the mental/spiritual edge that I needed to break the non-training cycle so I finished it (in some pain from my arthritis) but I never gave into quitting. Dave, your posts on facebook have brought me back from the edge. I owe you! The past is the past and will not hinder my start to today! I will see those of you who are registered at the Wine and Dine half marathon in October!

I promise to be a better teamate and keep up my contributions to all of you! MIKE :cool2:

Okay, how exactly do I order WISH shirt?

Hi Team!

I hope everyone had great holidays!

Vicky - :rotfl: I shoulda been a shyster...uh, I mean lawyer.

Sue - I don't care for hot! hot! hot! either. At least here, it's over 90 degrees and up, but there's no humidity!

Mike - One thing about burning yourself out...you have to have been on fire, first! Now, you can relax and find your Happy Pace! ::yes:: Wishing you all the best with the family issues. :tink:

Lynn - Sorry to hear about the knees! Man! Do you still do the bike? Does it help? That's what PT's use to build up knees here.

AFM - We got a grocery sack full of squash out of our garden, yesterday! We have had a few tomatoes. And the rest is blooming.

Hey Team!

Margie, Connie, Vicky & Lynn- Thanks for the feedback on the shirts! I’ve e-mailed my order and am waiting for an invoice to finish the purchase! :thumbsup2

Margie- Hope you had a great day.

Vicky- How’s your back feeling? Did you get your new strap? The gym we use has a key card so we can access it 24 hours a day. Comes in pretty hand occasionally! Are things going a little better for you now? Haha, I wouldn’t feel too bad about crying at the Dr.’s office…stuff happens sometimes and it sounds like you were really overloaded with things on your plate. I sure hope this week goes better for you! When’s the job interview? How exciting!! I'll keep my fingeres crossed for you!

Connie- The new workout interval sounds interesting. When do you plan to start it? That's quite a bit of squash. Sounds yummy.

Sue- Have a great run this evening!

Lynn- Hope you had a great walk with the dogs.

Mike- Welcome back! I’m glad you made it through your 8 mile run the today. I’m sorry to hear you were having a rough time. I can relate with the struggle to keep going when you have a bad running day or other life things happen. Hang in there and keep moving forward! I’m looking forward to seeing you at Wine and Dine! To order a shirt go to the RaceReady Coolmax WISH post. You will have to e-mail your order, I believe. I just ordered mine yesterday.

AFM- I ran 4 miles today and did a core workout. I had the day off as work office was closed today. I always enjoy a day off… don’t wanna go back to work tomorrow...if only the weekends (short and long) went a little bit slower. :sad2:

:lmao: Haha I must have gotten distracted because I accidentally posted this in the wrong thread and had to edit that post and repost here. Whoops!

Hi team! Just a quick fly-by for me tonight. Well I sent in my resume this morning and a couple of hours later, the branch manager called me back and I have an interview set up for tomorrow afternoon at 1PM. So if you remember, please send me some good thoughts and pixie dust around then :goodvibes I'll let everyone know how it goes tomorrow night.

Regina - The back is feeling better! Thanks for asking! I went for an adjustment tonight with my chiro and got a little bit of everything - ART, stretches, back cracking and my favorite acupuncture (well not really)! Yeah, I have a lot on my plate - just relationship stuff :( I think that we're finished and I hadn't wanted to post that before because ... well maybe I was an optimist or just in denial. Or probably just not spontaneously combusting into tears. I think my doctor described it as being like post traumatic stress disorder. Anyway, that's me in a nutshell... emphasis on nut. :upsidedow

Mike - You have been doing a lot of racing lately. One thing I've found about races is that it keeps you running but constantly adhering to a training schedule is very taxing mentally. Maybe you need a bit of break for a few weeks... go for a couple of runs just for fun, without the Garmin. I know, easier said than done

Sue - I put the band onto the Garmin today and I will give it a try on Wednesday. I want to give my back a chance to rest from the treatment today. Not to worry I will post :)

Kim/Sue - Let me know if you gals are interested in ordering WISH shirts. Since the shipping to Canada is double, maybe we can split the costs.

Margie - The ankle is definitely better :) But my PT says that tissues and muscle injuries can take up to 9 months to a year to heal so I'm still taping it up every time I run.

Dave -

Scott/Lynn - Did you see the dog crash? Yikes!

Anyway have a great night everyone!

Good Morning, Team! :wave2:

Partly cloudy - High 92° -Humidity 84%

Connie-It was so nice talking to you last night.
Glad to hear you are feeeling a bit better!

Dave-:grouphug:

Lynn-Bummer-I am sorry about your knee. :sad1:
WTG - You are doing great with your dog walks and training.

Mike-You were doing over the top in both training & races–
you needed a rest. But WAY happy you are now back with us.

Vicky, yep saw the dog crash, pet owners should be more responsible.

Knee is betting better, still sore and stiff, but better for sure, doc tomorrow.

Hope others with ailments are doing well.

Have a good one kids,

Good Morning Team!

Vicky, Here's some pd for your interview. :wizard: Glad to hear your back is feeling better.

Margie, Have fun in the sprinkler. Oh to be a kid again.

Connie, Our neighbour has a small garden. I love to come home to find a bag of treats she has left for us. Living in the city having a veg. garden is not that common.

Regina, When you figure out how to slow down weekend time I so want in. A 2 (3/4) day weekend is never long enough.

AFM, Went out late for last nights run & then took the dog for his walk. Humidity is one energy zapper.

Stay cool........Sue

Good Morning Team!

Mike – Welcome back! We all burn out occasionally – I at least have dogs that need to be walked, so I am always walking, but sometimes not at training speed or form. As for ordering a WISH shirt, look for the thread about ordering, I saw it not too long ago.

Connie – yes, I am still using the bike, it is a nice afternoon break, as it is in the basement and it is nice and cool down there. Of course, in this weather, I could take the street bike out!

Regina – the dogs always enjoy their walks, yesterday’s was not long, but I did do the planned 3 miles today.

Vicki – good luck on your interview! pixiedust:

As I said, got in only a short walk yesterday, did get on the bike downstairs the day before, today I got in 3 miles, pace was a bit slow and I felt stiff, probably from not walking much yesterday.

Dave - hope things are going better for you today! pixiedust:

Have a great day all!
