Vicky - ref:snow tires on bikes, in bad weather, we use the cross bikes or the hybrid bikes, both have more “aggressive” tires (wider and more tread), we do not really ride bikes when there is snow and ice on roads (although Scott has shown pictures of bike tracks in snow in driveway). There are folks around here who ride mountain bikes in all weather conditions, and there is such a thing as snow tires for bikes. On the London trip, we just did a lot of walking and did not eat that much. We had a flat, so breakfast and dinner were done in the flat, and were simple, like soup or sandwiches for dinner, Lunch was out, and we usually just split a sandwich and chips (fries) in a pub. We are waiting at least until after tomorrows appt to plan the summer bike rides, but we have already planned our vacations for the year, and hopefully, can work around them with knee surgeries. As for the points, they look great. I will probably not join in until after we are back from WDW, (Feb 13) because I always gain weight there and it would be harder to do some of the categories. Take care of the Achilles!

AFM - Got out for dog walk and 30 min on spin bike. Yesterday was one of those days when I could not stop eating, I hope to make today better!

Well I vote for Feb 1st because it is a Friday and that is our reporting day, right? And for purely personal reasons, then my race on Sunday will give me points! LOL
 
Hello team!

Elizabeth - I didn't feel completely ready for TB, but I knew that I'd be able to push myself through it. The race went pretty well considering and I was satisfied with my time.

Kipp - Hope you feel better soon! I understand needing to catch up at work, I'm doing the same after being away for a week.

AFM - TB went alright considering my foot problems. I finished in 2:47:25 which I'm satisified with. I started back a corral with Patrick, since he couldn't start in B with me. I stuck with him for the first 4 miles or so and then sped up after that. Weather wasn't bad, a bit chilly. I liked the course but still think I like the DL half better. I think that race has more on course entertainment than the TB.

My sister came in last week for a visit. This was her first time in So Cal so we took her around to a number of touristy places. We had a fun time.

I haven't ran since the TB. I'm planning to take a break for awhile. I don't have any fitness goals set for the year yet. Right now, I just need to get back into doing my PT exercises. And checking in here more often :)

Ok gang! I'm trying to keep this as simple as possible. What do you think of points system? I don't want to make it overly complicated - remember someone is going to have to keep track of everything :) Going by Robbie's suggestion each 10 points earned will equal 1 entry to the prize raffle.

Weight loss (per week)
Maintaining goal weight (+/- 2lbs) = 2 points
Biggest Loser for the week (by percentage) = 3 points

Exercise
Completing a weekly workout challenge ie. 15 pushups every day for the week = 1 point/day
1 hour of exercise = 1 point

Healthy eating
Drinking 8 glasses of water a day = 1 point/day
Trying a new healthy food or recipe for the week = 1 point/week
Taking a multivitamin daily = 1 point/day
Eating five servings of fruits and veggies daily = 1 point/day
Eating two servings of dairy a daily = 1 point/day

One time points
3 points for every percentage of starting weight you lose (eg lose 5% of starting weight; get 15 points at end of contest)
Reaching your goal weight = 10 points
Achieving a race PB = 10 points

Sounds good, I am in!
 
Good Morning Team!

Met with Orthopod yesterday, I am in for 2 new knees, and Scott in for 1. Scott’s surgery will be Feb. 18th, and mine will be March 4th. These dates are a little close together, but we both wanted to get them done before heading out for vacation,and we needed 6 weeks for Physical Therapy after each. I will get both knees at the same time.

I'm glad so many of us are going to do the weight loss challenge. Let's do a weigh in tomorrow - that way we can weigh in every Friday. As for end date, how about May 31, 2013 like Robbie suggested.

Who wants to chip in for a prize? It's not mandatory and a few people already sent me a PM saying they didn't want to do the prize. It's completely optional and don't feel any pressure to participate. You get bragging rights either way :)

Emily - Congrats on Tinker Bell! I want to do that race someday. How's your foot feeling? Are you going back for the DL 1/2 this year? I said I wasn't but then Disney introduced Dumbo so it was hard to resist. What are some of the touristy things to do in LA? I was thinking this time I might spend a day or two away from the parks.

Lynn - Have a fun trip to WDW! The sharing of meals sounds like a good ideas. Portion sizes everywhere are huge! Did you and Scott find any interesting food places? I hope the consultations for the knee surgeries go well :)

Kipp - Awesome RR! Sorry to hear about the buses back to the resort. I agree it was hot and 40 minutes is a long time to wait in the sun. I think I waited about 15 minutes and it felt long because of the heat and the smell from the porta potties. Hope you're feeling better today :)

AFM - I went to look at another gym last night and calculated that it would cost me about $620 to join for the year. A friend thought I might be better off putting that money toward a road bike instead. It's hard to decide :)
