You guys crack me up..

Really bad day to stare at all this food porn as I'm fasting for Ash Wednesday.

My favorite recovery treats are banana and peanut butter, preferably dipping the banana in the peanut butter. I'm allergic to wheat so a lot of traditional recovery foods are difficult for me, I have made this really good Quiona dish that I found in Runners' World though.

My favorite Disney treat is to have a chocolate sundae and a PBJ milkshake at 50s Primetime, but in general I just love being able to order pretty much whatever I want in a restaurant.

I did a 27 minute speed workout today. Got in about 3 miles so approx. an 9m/m pace, but (I'm so excited) top speed was the equiv of a 6:58 mile! Sure I only held it for half a mile, but it means its in there and with enough practice it'll come out one of these days.

Oh and I'm now officially registered for my first 1/2 marathon in Providence on May 3.

Did I hear there was ice cream here?

Howdy everybody! Just popping in from 'Ohana to say hello.

My favorite recovery food is pizza, especially pepperoni with a nice, thick crust.

My favorite Disney treat is zebra domes from Boma. Yum!

Hi I am here from the Triple D's joining your Ice Cream Social for the day. So nice of you to invite us!! :grouphug:

I have to say I with Debra on the coca cola thing - I was SO excited after the marathon to have Coke. I knew I would need it since I was craving that after my 18 miler and craving it during my 20 miler. I even told my dh to have Coke waiting for me at the finish line. Little did I know it would be provided for me - I drank it like (as Debra said) "as if I was an addict" - I pounded it actually - by time I picked up my bag, got a massive charley horse in my calf and could barely walk I was practically finished with my Coke by time it was my turn for a massage. On my walk back through Epcot (after the massage and my finish medal picture) I had to buy another coke and had that finished before I got back to the Dolphin. :scared1: Didn't realize it was a recovery drink but some like to drink beer after their runs - me I prefer a nice cold Coke - :cloud9:

Otherwise I use to crave pancakes after my morning long runs - not so much anymore. I would be huge if I would have eaten pancakes after every long run. LOL so I am glad that phase is over.

And YUM whoever mentioned Zebra Domes - I didnt have them from Boma but from Mara but still the same thing - I  those things. I could have used those as a recovery meal after the marathon. Actually I think I ended up getting a pot roast from Picabu (at the Dolphin) as my recovery meal (that is after I got out of the ice bath and could walk again - LOL)

Thanks again for inviting us over - I have to leave the party now and go to the dentist - so I guess its a good thing I really wasn't ingesting all these delicious treats!! LOL

Hi y'all...just poppin' in from the Rebel Alliance which consistently makes me think of Billy Idol and "with a rebel yell she cried more, more, more" more ice cream I'm guessing.;)
My favorite post run recovery food is chocolate milk and I have so many things I love at Disney...this past trip, I was hooked on the yogurt parfaits at Roaring Forks. YUM! Oh, and that Banana Creme Brulee dessert at California Grill.
Thanks for the invitation....have a great one!

Just checking in back here. Lots of people love the pancakes & waffles. That reminds me of a receipe Tracey (Just Smile) posted a while back on the Eating Healthy subforum of WISH: Blueberry and Walnut Bran Pancakes. I've tried them, and they're delicious.

Syko: Rice and Tofu bowl. Yummy. Not too many people I know like tofu. You a veggie?

Connie: Do you know if the LTT will make ice-cream sandwiches with oatmeal raisin cookies?

Vicky: You're so healthy, offering us calorie-free recovery decadence.

Marci: MM Waffles. They're just so much fun!

Lynn: 6 miles with your dogs? I know it's off-topic, but I have to ask. Isn't that a lot? Are they big dogs? (I don't have dogs, so I genuinely don't know.) Wow, they keep one active.

Jackie: I don't think you're a slacker. But I do think you combined runnning with recovery in your Krispy Kreme race. :rotfl:

Jen in GA: Never had the pistachio gelato. Must try it. Like you, I'm all about the sugar.

Liz: I didn't realize the Poly had a grown-up grilled cheese. Thank you, thank you, thank you. :worship:

Duane: Thanks for the Slim Fast tip. Easy to find (I assume the original is easy to find), easy to carry. Like you and Jackie, I love the Columbia Harbour House.

Jeff: I love the Monte Cristo sandwich, but the 3-Cheese one. Decadent and oh-so-bad for me. And churros from DL, but not WDW's? :confused3 What is a fudgeanna?

Jennifer: Ah, we're kindred spirits with the PB&J milkshake from 50s Prime Time. I often get cravings for PB when in training, so maybe that's the connection. Congrats on the sub-7:00 pace and signing up for your first 1/2.

Julie: Ahhhh, the fabled Zebra Domes. I'd love to try them sometime, but they're not vegetarian.

Tricia: So, you're saying we ARE Coke addicts and that I'm in denial? Okay, I'll buy that. :lmao:

In the spirit of Vicky, I should add that, although I don't LIKE them, I do swear by ICE BATHS as a recovery "treat." Preferably with some spirits to drink while I sit in the tub. Say, Eagle Rare. Neat, of course. It takes the edge off the ice in my bath.

Thanks for the invite to the ice cream social. Nights that I do my walking I enjoy Edys ice cream, usually cookies & cream or chocolate chip. I put little bit of milk in the bowl which make some ice on the ice cream. I also use the Hershey's chocolate Shell on top. My mouth is watering.
Favorite immediate recovery item is..... CHOCOLATE MILK!!! my fav.

Things I like at WDW.....
French Toast - Kona Kafe
Pulled Pork Sandwich - Whispering Canyon Cafe
Churros - Mexico
Wet burrito (don't have them anymore) - Mexico
Italian sandwich - Starlight Rays Cafe
Taco Salad - Pecos Bills (it's a make your own)
THe cookies sold at the Goofy's Candy Store - Downtown Disney (choc chip supreme, I have to get one EVERY time I go there!)
Frozen Coke - Outside Test Track
Hamburger and chocolate shake - Sci-Fi Dine in Theater.

More that I can't think of right now.
Thanks for the mixer guys!!

Tracy - co captain of Walt's Warriors!!!!

Sorry I'm so late for the party! Been busy today being a substitute for the two year old's teacher at school, and we had cupcakes with brightly colored frosting. :scared1:

Anyway, I love Ice cream, and my favorite flavor is Moose Tracks!!!

My favorite after race/training treat is the old fashioned chocolate milk! I've never been a huge fan of Gatorade so I was delighted when I found out that chocolate milk was just as good! :thumbsup2

Also, my favorite Disney treat is a Mickey bar!!!!:mickeybar In fact DD and I had those for dinner one night while we were waiting for Spectro to start during Marathon weekend 2008! :thumbsup2 But a dole whip float would be a very close second choice!

Ok, I have got to go to bed. Gotta have DS to school at 5:45 AM tomorrow. :scared1: His high school's basketball team is in the semi finals and the school is taking kids to go watch tomorrow. :thumbsup2

Thanks for the invite Hakuna Matatans!!!!:grouphug:

Hey everyone! I just got home from work and the gym and I have more work to do tonight. It has been so busy for me that I am having to bring a couple of things home so I can get caught up. I had to stay late tonight also because my night associate had to call out. All work and no play..... Well, we all know the rest.

Ice Cream? I love it. It has been a while since I have given in too the temptation. Usually when I have the craving, I will eat some yogurt or pudding but when I do eat ice cream, I love chocolate chip cookie dough or cookies and cream.

Some of my favorite treats in WDW:
Mickey Bar
Dole Whip
Nestle Cookie Sandwich
Popcorn (that smell is intoxicating)

My favorite after race treat:
So far I have been simple. Just a banana and something cold to drink.

What else can we talk about?

Bryan

Jennifer - Dave's Erica is a vegetarian, she might be able to help you with ideas.

Syko: I applaud you for being a vegan athlete. I eat vegan occasionally, several meals a week, but am primarily an ovo-lacto vegetarian (more lacto than ovo). Any tips you have on being a vegan athlete would be much appreciated.

Jennifer: You probably don't need to look into this book immediately, but I really like Lisa Dorfman's The Vegetarian Sports Nutrition Guide. It's really helped me adapt my diet to fit with my training. (A little heavy on the academese, but I skip those parts.) One of the most important things I learned about eating veggie while training was to increase my protein to account for absorption rates--I never noticed how my energy flagged until I changed this aspect.

Here's an article that gives you a broad overview and quotes Dorfman and others. It probably doesn't tell you anything you don't know, though.

The book recommends vegetarian athletes consume between 1.3 & 1.8 grams of protein per kilogram of weight (pounds divided by 2.2), which is different from omnivores. Here's another brief article that provides some suggestions, although it recommends the higher level.

I also like this online article for its protein charts. You'll note the recommendations for protein varies a bit from the others online articles. I tend to go with Dorfman's recommendation because her book's extensive research. The protein tables here are accurate enough, though, for planning your diet.

Of course, protein isn't the only thing to think about, but I'm assuming you eat a fairly well-balanced diet in other areas. And I'm focusing on protein primarily because I found changing my protein levels made the biggest difference in my training. And as Lynn said, Erica's another veggie who can help. I don't want to sound like a proselytizer, but I really enjoy my veggie lifestyle! I hope you feel free to ask me any questions as you transition. And if you PM me your email address, I can also send you a sample meal rotation--very basic--from Dorfman's book to ensure you get a variety of protein forms.

Debra, I'm a vegan, but I eat fish and chicken. Would that make me a Sea Cluck vegan?

Slinking off now Panda:hippie:

I'm glad I'm only seeing all these food pics now. I'm getting ready for bed so I can't eat anything else :goodvibes

I forgot to post my favourite WDW treats...

Dole Whips - I love getting them at the Poly since it's a self-serve machine :cutie:

No Way Jose sundae - Beaches and Cream

Quesitos - This is a new one and I've only found them in two places. I might try making them once I start running again.

Oreo Bon Bons - I think that's what they're called, they're at the Cape May dinner buffet

Make Your Own Treat at Goofy's Candy Company - I love the Rice Krispy treat with M&M's and Butterfingers... dipped in chocolate!

Zebra Domes - Yum!!

Koko Puffs - Too bad Kona Cafe doesn't make them anymore

Macadamia nut pancakes - Served at the Kona Cafe ... best with a pressed pot of Kona coffee!!

Jeff - I've never seen a Monte Cristo sandwich before. It looks yummy!! Actually, it reminds me a little of a sandwich a friend of mine bought at a state fair. It used Krispy Kreme doughnuts as buns

Debra - Oooh ice baths! Aren't they better when taken with another treat :)

Liz - I love the grown up grilled cheese sandwich too. Had it for the first time this trip. The two halves of the sandwich got stuck together and I didn't know any better so I ate it that way :rotfl: :rotfl: Until DF asked why I was eating his half too ...:cutie:

Bryan - Love the chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream too!

Now that I've posted so much about food, I feel like I have to go and workout!

Have a great night everyone!

Slinking off now Panda:hippie:

Well, technically, we would probably call you confused. :lmao: Or a pesco-pollo-vegetarian. Or a Pesky Panda. Take your pick. :rotfl2:
