Hakuna Matata - Fit and Fabulous in February

Good morning!

Glad this challenge has started! Official weight: 160.8 and my goal is 130.

Yesterday was the second day of my personal challenge of not eating fast/restaurant food for the month of February. I'm dismayed at how often I would have chosen to out already if not for the challenge.

Lynn: I love chai tea. What tea brand do you drink? Since I cut out the sugar it has been hard to find one I really like.

Any one watching the Super Bowl?

I prefer the Celestial Seasons Chai, I use sugar free vanilla syrup like I put in my coffee for sweetener. I also drink the decaf since it is usually in the evening. Good luck staying away from fast food!

Well I survived the Surf City Marathon on Sunday and had a really good time! I got my first sub-6hr finish time of 5:57:15 which is a PR for me. So that was pretty cool. The race course is very pretty and you just can't beat running along the beach on a sunny morning. And, no injuries. I am one Marathon away from Marathon Maniac membership -- one of my 2013 running goals.

The whole weekend was special for me because the primary reason I went to California was for my 35th High School Reunion. I had a reunion breakfast with 7 of my close friends on Saturday morning. Then I drove to the expo and met up with Joe Taricani of The Marathon Show, and a bunch of running friends who were there. Then I met up with my sister-in-law and had lunch with her near the expo (she and her hubby are runners too). Then took a boat tour of Newport Harbor with some friends and Joe Taricani as our captain! Then drove back to LA for the actual reunion! Finally got back to my house (where I grew up) at 9pm to try to sleep before the race (which started at 6:30am).

Whew! It was a whirlwind of a weekend but oh, was it a blast! Now I am finally back home in Crystal Lake IL with my family, and getting ready to go to bed. It snowed while I was in Los Angeles so I had to dig my car out of the snow before I could drive home! What a 'welcome home gift'! LOL

Tomorrow starts with some time in the Jacuzzi at the gym, then a full day at the office, and then an hour-long massage after work (oh yeah, these muscles need some TLC for sure).

Hope everyone had a fun and enjoyable weekend! Here's to excellent results for all of us this Friday!!

Sounds like a great weekend Rick and WTG on the PR!!!!!!!

Hi everyone, running late this morning so will check back in later. Workout ran a little long this morning....which is a good thing!!

Good Morning Team!

Rick - Congrats on the PR!

AFM - We are sitting in the Denver Airport waiting for our flight to Orlando. Have a great week all!

Pixie Dust to all who are in need!

How is everyone doing with the challenge so far? Are you doing your jumping jacks or jacks? Drinking your water and eating vegetables? I know I'm a bit of a slacker on the weekend when it comes to eating so I think this is the first weekend in a while that I've actually been more careful when it comes to food. I keep having to remember that food is fuel...

Lynn - I think I'm going to keep packing lunches for a while. At this rate, I should I have a bike in no time at all LOL Safe travels! Have a blast in WDW :) Are you at OKW this time?

Kim - Good job on getting the workout done! I like morning workouts because I feel energized and ready to tackle the day.

Rick - Congrats on Surf City and your PR! Sounds like it was an awesome trip :) How was your high school reunion?

Elizabeth - I eat out way too much too! It's easier to buy lunch than it is to pack a lunch but not at all cheaper. I think I spend about $9/day on lunch and then about $2/day on coffee. It adds up. The last two weeks, I packed lunches on the weekend and brought a mug and tea bags. I'm putting that money into my bike/vacation fund LOL

AFM - I think I might try going out for a short run this weekend. I haven't been running since Goofy so it's been about a month. I hope that the achilles is good to go. I didn't want to start running and have to stop again if I got re-injured. Yesterday I sat for an hour on the bike in the gym but it's not the same

I'll try and get the Google spreadsheet set up before Friday. Sorry, it's just been a little bit busy!

I finished the second part of my race report. Have a read if you have a minute or two or you can just look at the pics :)

Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

Loved the report Vicky!

Hey team! Just a reminder to post tomorrow with your points and weight. You can post a breakdown of how you earned the points but please add them up. It just ends up being extra work for me to add them up for everyone :) Please and thank-you!

Kimberly - Thanks! I realized as I was writing the RR, I never got a pic with you and Rick after the race :( I will definitely have to do that the next race we do! Don't worry about the weight, it's just a number and it's all downwards from here!!

Rick - Great report! Loved the medal and the part about the banana was hilarious! Would you do that race again or was it a one and done?

No worries! Just a good excuse to get together again!

I am definitely thinking of doing the race next year. If you do it three consecutive times, you become part of their Legacy Club. You are supposed to get a lot of extra swag, a special bib, and stuff. So it is tempting to go for that. :)

I highly recommend the race if you ever want to run a race by the beach. The race is part of the Beach Cities Challenge -- the Surf City, OC, and Long Beach International Marathons. If you run all three (in any combination of Half or Full), you get an additional "Beach Cities Medal" which weighs 3/4 pounds and looks awesome!

I know it is quite late but I finally got my actual race report for the WDW Marathon Weekend published. This one is the more traditional race report rather than the reflections type post I did in January.

Hope you like it. Hopefully it doesn't have too many typos and bad sentence structures. I wrote it late Thursday night and I was tired by the time I was done.

Thanks in advance Vicky for letting me link to your race reports for better detailed race progress. If I had included that into my own, the report would have gone on for way too many pages. LOL

Good morning team.

I didn't lose a pound this week. I started the week at 183.4 and have stayed right there. Last week I lost 3.2 lbs but this week none at all. I feel like I had a good week though. 5 miles on Monday, 1 hr workout on Tuesday, 10 miles on Wednesday and rest testerday. So Vicky points this week 16.

I'm feeling super though and I feel stronger, just didn't drop any weight. Hopefully next week will see the scale move a bit.

Hope all you northern folks are ok this morning, looks like y'all are getting some serious snow.

Davepirate:

Happy Friday everyone!

Dave - Good job on the points and the workouts! The competition is going until the end of May so it all evens out over time. Will get your points and weight recorded!

Rick - I'm going to check out your race report after I'm done posting here. You're welcome :)

AFM - We have a serious dumping over snow overnight and it's still going on. I think I heard we're expected to get up to 17 inches when it's all done. I was hoping to go out for a long run this weekend but it may not happen because of the snow. It depends on how fast the roads and sidewalks get cleared.

I'm hoping to go and see 'Lincoln' this weekend but I heard it's a long movie so I'm not sure if I'm up for that. But Sunday is also Chinese New Year so I have a dinner to go to that day. Luckily, Sunday is a cheat day for me so I can be slightly off diet :)

I left my points on my spreadsheet at home but I'm down this morning to 137.2 for a loss of 3.1 lbs (-2.21%)!! Whee! I guess that tells you how badly I was snacking and eating out. *ahem*

Stay warm and safe for those of you in the path of the storm!

I lost 2 lbs to come in at 246

Exercise Challenge: 1 point
8 Glasses of Water a day: 5 points
Try a healthy Recipe: 1 point (Apple Crisp dessert recipe)
Multivitamin: 7 points
Fruits/Veggies: ZERO points
2 Servings Dairy: 2 points

I'm fuzzy on the weight portion. So without that portion I look to have 16 points plus whatever I qualify for on the weigh-in.

I've still not started to run again... I WILL be doing a race at the beginning of May, so I HAVE to start my plan! I just haven't figured out WHAT my plan is going to be. I think this go around I'm going to try something different than the Hal Higdon plans, as I'm not fond of the large mileage being the weekend previous to the race.

My first week was mixed. I did well as far as points are concerned. But I gained .2 lbs (weigh in at 248.6) even though I burned 7500 calories during the race. Go figure!

Exercise Challenge: 10 points for Race PR, plus 7 points for 7 hours of exercising for the week
8 Glasses of Water a day: 4 points
Try a healthy Recipe: 0
Multivitamin: 7 points
Fruits/Veggies: 0
2 Servings Dairy: 6 points
Total points: 34!

Updated! To include my points for the 7 hours spent exercising during the week (running and swimming)

I hope I am scoring this right…please correct me if wrong!

Exercise Challenge: 2 for 2 mins of jumping jacks. 7 for 7 hours exercise= 9 points
8 Glasses of Water a day: 7 points (if green tea counts, if not…0)
Try a healthy Recipe: 0
Multivitamin: 0
5 Fruits/Veggies: 5
2 Servings Dairy: 7

Points: 28

Weightloss: Because I misbehaved during Superbowl, I lost only 1 lb (194 to 193) so 0.5%. Don’t think I get any points for that!
