:simba: Hakuna Matata Team Bios :simba:

Windwalker, aka Dave aka Panda- I'm 60 and live in a small town in Kentucky. I don't run I walk, race walk actually. I have qualified for another shot at the National Senior Olympics. Married to Sally.

es45 aka Elizabeth- I'm 42 and married with 2 young daughters. I ran my first 13.1 in the 2011 Princess Half.

Pudge The Fish, aka Emily- My DH and I will be doing the DL half in Sept. This will be our first half marathon. I still consider myself new to running, though I've done 2 5k (including the 2009 DL 5k) and one 10k.

Villians_Rock, aka Eva – I am 31 years old, married to Jordan (proud WISH supporter) and have just recently had our first baby, Gage. We currently live near Cleveland, OH. I'm a full time staffing coordinator for Continental Airlines and my hubby sells Harley Davidsons. I ran my first race in 2007 and have since ran 5Ks, 10Ks, one half marathon and completed the Disney Full Marathon in 2009. Before the baby, I was most comfortable running and training at a half marathon distance.

GirltheGecko aka Hope- I grew up in the Pittsburgh area. When I was a teenager, I was heavily into martial arts, unfortunately due to school and time, I had to quit. I met Nick, moved to NH, and I gained some weight. I watched my mother struggle with obesity all her life, so Nick's family and I decided to work at trying for a half marathon at WDW.

flipflopmom, aka Taryn – I will be 35 on Sept. 5. I am a Kindergarten Teacher, working on my master's degree in my "spare” time. Married for 12 years, have 2 girls. Oldest is 10, and a competitive gymnast. Her gym is 45 minutes away, so I spend a lot of time on the road. Youngest is 3, and a tons of fun! I haven't run a race yet, but looking for a 5K.

LynnG, aka Lynn, (of Lynn and Scott)- 60 years old, retired, we are both Disneyholics. We have been members of DVC since it started. I am a walker, I used to try to run, but knee surgery last August which I am still trying to recover from, I only walk now. I have done several half marathons, mostly Disney ones. I have 2 malamutes that are my walking companions at home.

MaryJ aka Mary- I am 53 years old, and live in a small town in Southwestern Indiana. I will be married to DH (Ken) for 34 years in July. We have 3 daughters and 2 granddaughters. I walk/run my races. I did my first big race (WDW Half) when I was 52. Before that I had done only a few 5K's, mostly walking.

Motomiker, aka Mike – I have lived in and around Lake in the Hills Illinois. I have worked in the grocery business for almost 20 years. Married in 2008 to my wife (Liz). One son (Robert), working on baby number two. I was diagnosed with colon cancer in the fall of 2009 and had surgery. I am still cancer free! My other interests are varied: Disney nut, Disney pins collector, love movies (mostly Sci-fi), scrapbooking, travel, a New England Patriots fan, and 5ks . I did my first adventure race recently, and am planning some more.

Nikkilala, aka Nikki- Married to Ryan at WDW in 2007. Currently a Physical Therapist Assistant student graduating in 2012. Is a wogger (walker with a little jogging mixed in) Lives in South West Michigan where she was born and raised! Loves Disney and will do anything for an excuse to travel there, including a half marathon

Saylan – I'm from the frosty north of Canada. I'm very new to running (officially started October 14, 2010). I'm training for the Disney Princess 1/2 and it'll be my first official marathon of any length. I'm a Disney addict (been 16 times). I figured if anything can motivate me to run it would be Disney. I live with my partner (and Disney virgin) and a demon of a cat.

piglet24, aka Regina- I grew up in Idaho and married my “birthday buddy”, Kyle, in 2006. I started running to help manage some stress about a year and a half ago, and have continued because I enjoy it. Of course, I love Disney and am always happy to have another reason to go!

DisneyGerry, aka Gerry - Lives in Celebration, FL, transplant from MD after numerous vacations to visit central FLA. Trying to kick up my race schedule this year starting with the Disney Half in January. Play and work in the theme park corridor

bunnyfoo, aka Vicky - My name is Vicky and I live in Toronto, Canada. I started running back in 2008 so I could lose weight become more active. I wasn't into low carb diets but it seemed like a lot of runners had great abs AND they ate carbs. I thought "Hey I can do that!" :goodvibes I started as an indoor treadmill runner and eventually worked my way outside and signed up for my first race - the Minnie 15K. As they say, the rest is history! I have had my share of bumps, bruises and sprains but have had a lot of fun along the way and have met a lot of great people including everyone on Hakuna Matada! Three years later, running, working out and healthy eating have all become a part of my lifestyle. My other interests are movies, reading, road trips and baking!

rubato, aka Tandy - Hi. My name is Tandy and I’m the mother of a fabulous 12 year old preteen son. :lovestruc I’ve been married to Frank (a non runner) for 18 years. I’m a full time student, going back to school to become a nurse. I have always run for fitness, but it wasn’t until my impending
40th birthday that I decided to become a distance runner. I love the miles and can’t wait to run my first ultra-marathon someday.

RunRookie, aka Rick - My name is Rick and I live in Crystal Lake, IL. I am married with three children (one 13yr old still at home). I am a new runner, having started in April 2011. My initial goals were to lose 160 pounds, improve my overall fitness, and to live a healthier lifestyle. Since then, I have run 15 races and lost 110 pounds! I am a big fan of Star Trek, Star Wars, Sci-Fi in general, Disney, photography, music, movies, and technology/gadgets. And I keep a fitness blog at rickpeete.squarespace.com.

RadioFanatic, aka KimberlyI'm 39 mama of an almost 4 year old boy, will be 40 by the race; and was goaded into doing this past 1/2 by friends who knew I could do it although I hadn't run a minute in my life. I started training on May 1, 2011 by doing couch to 5k and the first day was miserable where even running that minute made me want to die. Since then, I've lost 70 pounds, ran the whole 1/2 and am looking forward to my new goal. I'm planning on doing a 1/2 in april and in september, my first full in october here locally and some other 10k and 15k runs in between and my second and most exciting full on the 20th anniversary at disney!

OMG! The boards are so slow - I have been trying f-o-r-e-v-e-r to get this post started. My apologies. Everything's good to go!

I know! Posted this in January's thread only to realize it's February but laggy boards caused me to get it up before you were done. Sorry!

I have such a hard time loading the DisBoards with it being very slow-loading. Usually only at work but sometimes at home too. Makes tying to catch up really annoying! /rant :lmao:

Kim: I'm in for *grumble*Goodlife*grumble* and the Women's Niagara. I'm still debating on mudruns in general but I'll take a look at the one you mentioned in Uxbridge (I have no idea where that is!). It'd be cool if you could do the Midsummer one with Vicky (and most likely me). Oh, and the grumble is nothing to do with the race, just the name Goodlife. They and I have history, not pleasant history, that means I won't ever join their gyms again.

Ugh, I really hate standing on one foot (like lunges) exercises without pain. I can't imagine doing them with PF.

Tandy: You and me both. I need to work on my running before I work on my flame jumping, I think. I'm sure you're going to rock the Honors! Sounds like your arm routine is great! I've never really considered Zumba but I may have to the way you're recommending it. :thumbsup2

You're inspiring me to want to go back to school for a degree in something that will lead me onto a career path that will satisfy me.

You and I have the same favourites (Italian foods) so I feel your pain. Cutting out on grainy-carbs is something I just can't seem to pull off.

Sue: Thanks for the car tip about the zoo race. I'm still debating on that one, but I'll definitely keep that in mind if I sign up for it. I was last to the zoo when I was 5 so um... my memory of the place is sketchy at best, lol.

Elizabeth: I'm glad you're cleared to run again. Remember to pace yourself though. We want to see you being able to compete for many years to come.

Vicky: Your beignets looked delicious! I might break my no-sweets and no carbs rule for them.

I'd love to work on speed before Disney in January 2013 so I might pare it back a bit. Right now I'm thinking of a race a month or so, depending on length. That doesn't seem too bad and offers a little wiggle room in terms of recovery and maintenance. Not all of us can be Mike, I guess.

What did your trainer say about the obstacles? I find trainers are prone to insanity, myself, so I'm sure he just shrugged and said "no biggy!". :rotfl2:

I'd love to make it down to a 10 minute mile by January.

Oh, that's so sad that the leader wasn't correcting the forms, especially on planks. Those can be terrible if done wrong. And I know what you mean about having worked with people so the forms are well known to you. I always cringe when I see people working alone at the gym, knowing that they aren't quite right. I often point things out and ask my trainer if there's something wrong there, just so I can at least learn from others and avoid mistakes when on my own. She also has me doing rowing on a machine and I have to say I really struggle with keeping my breath steady. I'm sure the actual thing is much more challenging!

I'm with you on cleaning up the eating. My trainer has said I need to work on that to get over the plateau I'm at. I have the muscle there but the fat stores aren't going because I'm still grain-carbing and sugar-carbing too much. I just really struggle with veggies and particularly getting enough to eat while at work. Any tips you come up with, I'd love to hear!

Kim/Vicky: Road trips are awesome! DBF is on board for having a Saylan-free weekend. Now to find out if my friends mind me missing the WD.

Though, if we start calling ourselves the Three Canadian Cabelleros, can I be Donald? Pleeeeeeeeeeeeease? :rotfl2: I totally have his temper so it's perfect!

Robbie: Belated Welcome from one Canadian to another (and there's so many of us in here now)! My bff recently moved from Halifax where she was studying at Dalhousie. I was always jealous of her being able to live on the east coast. Those provinces are so lovely!

We're like the Haunted Mansion, there's always room for more! You may find you're not nearly as solo as you thought. As you get used to us, I'm sure you'll find we're horribly caring and devoted to our members. :rotfl: Team meets are optional, but I'll speak from experience that I feel I missed out when I couldn't make it to them this year. This is a great bunch of people.

Grats on sticking to your resolutions. It's not easy!

AFM: I'm struggling, as I mentioned above, with cleaning up my eating. I'm finding I can't seem to cut out the grain-based carbs as much as I need to and I can't find an easy way of bringing more vegetables into my meals. I'm making progress on my level of weights but I can't seem to get my weight to budge (it went up about 5lbs between Disney and Christmas). It's really really frustrating. :sad1: I'm not really about the weight, but more about the toning and I hate that I can't seem to get this right (even though I'm also painfully aware it's a fair bit to do with my stress and hormone issues lately).

I registered for the *grumble*Goodlife*grumble* and the Niagara Inaugural Women's Half in June so those can be added if you want to, Vicky. I might wait on Midsummer until the next credit card billing cycle. I was disappointed to see over 15$ in processing fees/taxes on the Niagara race. :headache:

There's a race weekend locally in mid-April at which I was hoping to do a half but I might cut it back to the 10K just to ease back into things. I have until really close to the race date to register so I'm playing it by ear right now.

Also, a good argument for running? My father (61) was carded trying to buy alocohol in Arizona. First time in over 40 years, and it only happened after he did his first race. If that doesn't encourage people to keep up with their running, I dunno what will. Apparently, Ontario licenses aren't considered valid ID at Target, either. :confused3

We saw an ad for the Brazil Butt Lift work out videos while we were at Riverside in January and (in true DBF style), DBF unprompted said "You definitely need to try that!". I swear he suffers from perma-foot-in-mouth disease! Anyway, we got back, he downloaded it, and I've been trying it on my non-trainer days. The first couple of days? Let me just say, 'Ouchie'. My poor tush! These are definitely not beginner videos, no matter how they market it, and like Vicky's dragonboat boot camps, unless you've spent some time learning how to isolate, you won't get nearly as much out of it. If you have, they will probably leave you with very sore muscles, at least the first time through.

And apologies to anyone on FB who may have been offended by my driving rant, also. I used some harsh language but I was seeing red by the time I got home. I hope no one was upset by it.

Good Afternoon Team!

Doing the quick post today. Very busy at work and as we all know posting is
very ssssssssssllllllllllloooooooooowwwwwwww.

Robbie, Welcome!

Elizabeth, Glad to hear you received the go ahead to run.

Have a great day everyone and happy training........Sue

Wow! February! Where does the time go?

Rebecca - I thought the grumbling was because of registering for the race. I didn't realize it was because of Goodlife. Sorry to hear you had a bad experience with them :( Some of these larger chain gyms seem to focus on getting in as many people as possible, getting them to sign up for training and that's it. Not much focus on customer service.

I love the road trip name!

I have a terrible time cutting out carbs and sugar myself. Some people can go cold turkey but I find it easier to wean myself off slowly. So for example, if I usually eat a tuna sandwich. The next time, I'll try adding extra tuna and veggies and making it an open faced sandwich. The next time, I'll use extra tuna, veggies and 1 piece of Wasa and no bread. Then I'll go and just make a tuna salad.

Breakfast is the meal that I struggle with because my trainer suggested I cut out dairy and said that soy wasn't great either. I usually do a protein shake, add a touch of cinnamon, unsweetened cocoa powder and make it with almond milk.

$15 in processing fees?! That is insane! The registration fee was $74 so that's 20%? Isn't the processing fee suppose to cover the fee charged by the credit card companies? I'm pretty sure the credit card companies don't charge 20%...

My trainer just said he liked doing obstacle courses. I should tell him to come and do the Goofy if he really wants a challenge LOL

Your dad must have been tickled pink when he was carded! That's an awesome story! And no worries about posting at the same time. It took me an hour to get things up, usually it's a 3 minute job. Oh and I'm not offended by the "colourful" language ... it was a frustrating situation for sure.

Elizabeth - Fantastic news! Yay!! I'm glad you're cleared to run. And you still have plenty of time to train! Did the doctor ever say what caused the back problems?

Lynn - Glad to hear that the kennel likes your pups! I've heard that good kennels can be hard to find. I see you have a Greece Mickey Mouse in your signature. Is that the next trip after South Africa? Great job on the 10 mile bike ride!

Tandy - How's the first day of clean eating going? I've managed to avoid refined sugar and carbs so far. But I haven't planned anything for dinner so I'm not sure what I'm going to do. Maybe soup and salad because I won't have time to defrost any proteins in my freezer

I'd feel more confident about running a sub 2:00 half if I had someone to pace me. I'm usually pretty good at running on pace but only when I'm following someone else.

Yeah my trainer is pretty crazy! He's training for a fitness competition in May which I think is why he's asking about the eating. But he also knows I've been over indulging in sugar so I don't mind him checking up.

Good job on the pain free running! And to Harrison as well! Sounds like he's getting speedy like his mom :) I'm thinking that icing knees, ankles, calves or whatever else even when there's no pain is a good thing.

Hey - do you still have that neighbor who runs barefoot? Does he go barefoot in the winter too?

Robbie - Congrats on the weight loss thus far! I don't mind running in fresh snow but I don't like it after it's melted and frozen again. I sprained my ankles last year so I'm a bit nervous about running on bumpy surfaces or where there's ice potentially. Good job on avoiding the beer and junk food!

Dave - How did your 10 miler go? I'm also enjoying the warm weather. It certainly makes it easier to get outside and walk or run. I hope this doesn't mean a super hot summer.

Sue - Will the warm weather affect the snow at the ski resorts this weekend?

Have a great night everyone :wave2:

Vicky: Oh, I'm super stoked about the race (even though my trainer grimaced as I did at the name). My father had his heart attack AT Goodlife. He was there, with ID, at the front desk. He was (warning: graphic) vomitting, in agony, and incoherent. He was also only 5 minutes from home. The front desk didn't do anything to help him. They didn't even go and get someone who might know something. A fellow member who had been late for her normal gym routine due to being on call (luckily she was a nurse) walked in. She knew instantly it was a heart attack, told the front desk to call 911 asap and tried to help my now unable to speak father. He was taken away to the hospital. He was gone from home for over 3 hours before the Emergency room called us. Emerge called us, not the gym, and most certainly not the front desk staff who watched him suffer for over 20 minutes before a member had to direct them.

They also proceeded to try and bill him for the next month's cycle even though we provided notes, documentation, and they had employees witness it, that he was unfit to use his membership. Needless to say, he left and went to a competitor that is 5 extra minutes away. They have AEDs on every wall and all staff are required to know how to use them. My trainer has had to use them on people she doesn't know. I also bought my father a RoadID tag so someone will call my mom and me if it happens again.

Unfortunately, yes, my anger for Goodlife runs deep. Without random luck of another member, my father would have probably died in their front lobby for all the good they did him. The kicker: (that I know is not their fault, but hurts nonetheless) the day afterwards, when my mom and I got home from the hospital, a flyer was on our door reading "Don't wait till you have a heart attack! Get into Goodlife Fitness today!" I can logically argue how that wasn't intentional but damned if I was logical the day I read that flyer.

/ LARGE rant on Goodlife

Hmm, I'll have to try tapering my carbs. I just struggle more with ideas/alternatives. Your tuna salad progression idea is a great one. I would probably try chicken since I don't eat fish, but what kind of mixture do you use? For example, most 'meat salads' have mayo in it. Things like that and finding veggies that are good for you and that I like (both qualities are easy to find alone, but together is difficult) is where I run into blocks.

I did find a cool idea to sub for wraps though: using large lettuce leaves or even sliced low-sodium deli meat. I've been trying that but the inside mixture was what made it not so good.

What's wasa?

Oh breakfast, the bane of my eating troubles. I feel your pain. My trainer also suggested a protein shake with almond milk. Specifically, a protein supplement compound that has both isolate, concentrate and casing. Isolate alone will absorb too fast and is ideal only for after workouts. The concentrate apparently is slower to absorb making it better for meal replacement.

Of course with years of history of skipping breakfast all together, I'm amazed that I'm now looking at how to change my breakfast ingredients. That's a huge step forward.

There was 5$ something in processing fees and 10$ something in HST taxes (which I think also taxed the processing fee?). Interestingly, the price goes up today by.... 15$! So by registering early I saved... what I paid for in fees. Sweet deal!

I definitely think you should turn him into a Goofyer! If he won't listen, tell him Mike challenges him.

My dad was so excited he actually posted it on facebook. So funny!

This board has been getting laggier and laggier for me too. And now I get to go home and listen to the tales of DBF's multi-hour phone arguments with Robbers, I mean Rogers (they upped his bill from 75 to almost 300 this month with no notice or change of service?). :sad2: Super fun happy times tonight!

Just had to post after my run! I'm in pain but no more than when I started and mentally, I feel better.:thumbsup2

Saylan: that is an awful story. No wonder you can't stand Goodlife. So happy to know that he recovered from such a terrible experience. As for your Fb rant, no apology needed for me either. Sounds like you were dealing with a jerk.

Sue: The speed of posting lately is driving me nuts! There are many days lately when I want to post but don't because the thread never comes up.

Lynn: I noticed the "Greece is the word" image too. Did I miss a trip announcement?

Tandy: Yay to pain-free running!

Vicky: Doc says that my injury is caused by a minor spinal defect. I'm working with the PT to strengthen my core muscles in order to keep running.

Enjoy the evening, all!

Elizabeth: I am SOOOO happy for you. I hope you are able to build around your spinal issue with muscle and continue to run.

Saylan: No need to apologize to me. I'm not on Facebook, so I didn't read your rant. Of course, with my vocabulary, you couldn't write anything that would offend me!
Reading your story about Goodlife, I am shocked! WTH? Any workout place should know how to handle something like that!
For a mayo substitute, I use plain greek yogurt. I have never eaten mayo and always just eaten things dry, but now, I like to add the yogurt.
Oh, and I find it highly amusing about the brazillian butt lift. I have been doing an old 1980's/90's routine called Buns of Steel which targets the whole stinkin booty. I am in pain for days afterwards, but man, what results!
I am impressed with your dad. I got carded when I was about 35 and was so happy I was beaming for a week!

Vicky: Yes, the neighbor goes barefoot in winter. He's insane, at least in my opinion. Wish I lived closer so I could pace you. I think we did a pretty good job of pacing and motivating each other last year. I did well with the eating today, except that I had a beer. I couldn't help it. I had Sam Adams in my fridge. It was taunting me. You're doing great. Hope you can keep it up. What is your goal, loss wise?

Sue: Happy to see you. Hope we get more info soon.:)

AFM: Okay, I can no longer deal with how slow this is! It's crazy. What's going on?

I didn't run today because I needed a day off. I managed 3.5 miles of walking and lots of homework. I finally talked my son into getting a haircut. His hair was ridiculous! He's mad at me, but will get over it. ;) He and I are going running again tomorrow, after school. I'm skipping zumba tonight, even though I don't want to. Frank is getting a little annoyed with how much I'm spending on zumba, so he requested that I only go once a week. Now that I can run again, I'm fine with that, but will miss it.

Won't be on tomorrow, so I hope everyone has a great day. It's getting close to the weekend!!!

Rubato: Thank you for your encouraging words about my blog. It is hard to know if anyone other than myself finds my postings of any value. And I am always looking for ideas on how to make it more helpful!

es45: Awesome news!!!!!!!! Just take care not to overdo it. I am praying that you will have a fun and rewarding Princess HM! :goodvibes

Dave: Congrats on your weight loss progress! How was that 10 miler? I am sure you nailed it! :goodvibes

Robbie: Keep up the great work! :thumbsup2

Saylan: Wow! I can only say how thankful we are that your Dad got the care he needed! What an awful ordeal to go through! But also what a triumph over it! :thumbsup2

AFM: I too am getting more and more frustrated at the tortoise-like speed of the boards. I saw a posting today saying they are replacing servers this week so maybe things will get better in the next few days. Can we invoke the 16:00/pm (post per minute) minimum pace rule before the server gets 'swept'? :rotfl2:

I am running this week! Yay! I got in 8 miles as of Wednesday, and I hope to log another 10 by Sunday. It feels good to be moving.

I made it official today and signed up for the Chicago Marathon! Now it's "real" and I have to formulate my training plan. If anyone has a solid 3-day/week plan, let me know. I was going to take my HM plan and just extend it further to 23 miles, assuming a starting LSR of 6 miles.

Happy Febuary team.

I couldn't get on yesterday so I wasn't able to post anything. I guess they must be working on the site. But I got right in first time today.

The 10 miler was brutal, the whole group did the first 7 miles then the Farrier and I did the last 3 miles as a series of sprints. Normal speed to first light pole, sprint to the next, normal for one pole, sprint the next two poles. Repeated that for 3 miles. I wasn't sure I was going to live after but after some food and a nap I decided I might survive after all. This year as promised will be a hard training year. The scale is showing 178 for the last to mornings, that's a 9 lb loss since I left for Disney.

Today is a 12 hour shift at work so a good reason to have a rest and recovery day.

Everyone have an awesome day and rest or train strong.

Dave:hippie:

Hi everyone!

Dave - Congrats on your weight loss! You're doing great! Don't work too hard today ;)

Rick - I'm really frustrated by the boards too *sigh* It's taking forever to post or just even to open a thread.

Congrats on signing up for the Chicago marathon! That's awesome! I when I trained for my first full last year, I used Hal Higdon's novice plan #2. I liked it because the longest weekday run never exceeded 8 miles and there's only one day of weekend running. I also liked that it did two weeks of LRs and then every third week was a cut back week.

Tandy - I'm a bit nervous about stepping back on the scale but I imagine that I probably have a good 5-8 lbs to get rid of. I know before WDW, I still wanted to lose an additional 5 lbs. So here's hoping I can at least get rid of 5lbs before that half in May.

Maybe the beer will make you run faster :) Regardless, it's gone so there are no more temptations LOL I find that before I start clean eating, I have to get rid of all the goodies hanging around the house. Unfortunately, that usually means me eating it

I'm glad that you're back running. I know it's not the same but is there anyway to do a zumba routine at home?

I wonder if your neighbour ever has frost bitten feet. Yikes!

Elizabeth - Take things easy and I'm glad to hear that the pain is minimal (?) or at least manageable. That was the same type of rehab exercise the PT prescribed for me I hurt back running. He said if I didn't have a strong core, the rest of my body ended up doing more work and that would potentially cause injuries in the knees, back, ITB etc.

Saylan - OMG! That's terrible! No wonder you're furious at Goodlife! I was thinking maybe you cancelled your membership and they kept charging your credit card or something like that. Thank goodness that nurse was there to help your dad. I can't imagine just sitting by and watching that happen to someone. I mean, if they weren't going to call 911 - didn't they even think of calling a manager or anybody else. I would have been furious!

I mix mayo into the tuna  I go low/no carb and low/no sugar but don't worry too much about fat. I tried regular yogurt before but didn't like it as much. I'll give Tandy's suggestion of Greek yogurt a try. I have a spice mix that I sprinkle on and I add in green onions and cilantro. Sometimes I'll add in a bit of chopped apple.

For veggies - I don't really like 'em either ... I try to rotate and mix them up. When broccoli is cheap, I'll buy a bunch, chop it up, throw in some carrots and steam it. I usually freeze the extra for another day. Othertimes, I'll have sliced peppers with humus. Oh and I also like sliced tomato rounds with salt, pepper and a drizzle of olive oil.

Thanks for the tip on the protein powder! I'll have to check mine out.

Robbie - I forgot to ask if you had a Facebook account. If you want to get added to WISH page there, let me know. It's not mandatory or required :)

AFM - This is the second day of clean eating. I think I did pretty well yesterday. Unfortunately I didn't plan ahead for dinner. So I was kind of stuck. The easiest thing to make is usually breakfast. So I made some scrambled egg whites, a few strips of chicken bacon, a spinach salad and a quarter of a grapefruit.

I think I might have to eat a little bit of carbs today at lunch because I have the dragon boat workout tonight and I don't want to bonk out. I'll probably get a sub on whole wheat bread because at least that way, I'll get in a lot of veggies.

Hopefully this new server works out and the lagginess clears up. That way we can all post normally again!

Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

Thank you guys, for your kind words about what happened with my father. I also passed along everyone's congratulations on his race (they just got back from Arizona and we hadn't seen them since they left Disney). He was very touched.

Elizabeth: That's great (the run and the lack of 'abnormal' pain). Congrats on getting back into things!

Tandy: No kidding, right? We were equally shocked. When I went to join a gym, it was one of the things I asked about: How well trained are your staff?

I use Greek yogurt as a sour cream (in tacos, etc.) substitute. I'd not thought to use it for mayo, but that's a great idea. Honestly, I love mayo. On hot dogs, sausages, subs, hamburgers, etc. I can also do without it so I've been trying things like mustard and honey mustard in lieu of mayo. :thumbsup2 The salads were just causing me some grief since mayo is usually a big part of the recipe.

I remember the Buns of Steel videos! So those really work huh? I'll have to look them up. I'm sure they're similar work outs to the butt lift one since I recognized a lot of them from many a video I've seen.

I got carded once even though I wasn't the one buying anything. I didn't have my ID on me so I had to go back to the card before my friend could buy his booze. :rotfl:

Rick: Thanks. He overcame a lot to be there this year.

Congrats on registering for your first full! I think there are a fair number of marathon plans out there from Galloway, Higdon, and others. I've not used any of them though so I don't want to suggest one (I tend to mess up training something bad it seems).

The boards seem better today so maybe yesterday's suffering wasn't in vain?

Dave: Nice work with the weight loss! Super jealous at your dedication and determination. I will have to strive to be more like you in applying myself to my goals!

AFM: Can I first say: YAY FASTER BOARDS! At least for now. I dunno, maybe I just jinxed it. :guilty:

My parents got back yesterday from Arizona (where they went when they left Disney). They brought DBF and me back candy as a souvenir. :headache: LOTS of candy. I'm not a big sweets person and I dislike chocolate most of the time so now I'm not sure what to do with all this. I appreciate the thought but I definitely can't be eating it all when I'm trying to lose weight and cut out sugars/carbs. :sad2: It's not hard to say no to something you never really eat or crave. (BTW: If anyone wants some nerds, runts, gobstoppers, twix, cactus candy, margarita flavoured lollipops, or something else wonka-made that I've forgotten the name, let me know!)

I'm having a hard time motivating myself to run. I was thinking maybe trying to slowly shift my schedule to allow for time enough to run at the gym in the morning. I'm not a morning person by any means but I'm just too drained after work and it tends to make running seem like a chore and not something to enjoy.

I also saw a post on the WiSH page that I liked: put a dollar in a jar for every mile you do, training or otherwise. Imagine if we did that as a team and selected a charity to donate to or something? With such dedicated team members running, walking, biking, crawling, etc. so many events this year, it'd be so cool.

Sorry that was a random thought that would be a lot of work and time committment (not to mention how do you pick where the money goes) but it was a cool idea, I thought. I figure at least with the races and training I'm planning to do, I can save up to afford maybe half the Goofy registration costs seeing as Disney is most likely going to raise them again.

I've decided to post one cool workout/exercise a week on here. It may not come to be useful for anyone, but maybe it'll be something they've never tried and it ends up being just what they were looking to add to their routine. Plus, it'll help me look into my own routines as well. :thumbsup2

Looks like we were posting at the same time. lol

Yeah, I was very surprised they did nothing. It was a situation too where Dad thought he was talking and making sense but due to lack of blood flow, he was incoherent and speaking gibberish. Now, he never works out without the RoadID I got him last year for Christmas. :thumbsup2 I found out about those here on the team thread, so thanks for keeping that info in the front.

I really need to focus on carbs and sugars, so my trainer said to ignore sodium, within reason. I don't know if I can get the green light to ignore fat content though.

Greek yogurt if very different from regular yogurt I find. It is much less ummm tasty? I think because it doesn't have as much added sugars into it (unless you're getting a flavoured version) and if I recall it has loads more protein. It's got the consistentcy of sour cream whereas I find most other yogurts are more runny/goopy. We also found Mediterranean yogurt the other day and couldn't tell if that was better or worse than Greek (or the same?). :confused3 A lot of yogurt is really high in sugars so I'm trying to moderate my intake of that. I hated yogurt a year ago and now I eat it regularly.

I like the apple idea! I would never have thought of that. I guess I'll try something like chicken pieces, apple, greek yogurt, red pepper, green pepper, and corn. Trying to mix what I 'should' eat with what I 'like' to eat... lol

I've tried red peppers with humus but I couldn't get past the peppers (and ended up eating way more humus to cover it up). I would need a sauce to eat broccoli and generally I don't like carrots or celery regardless of preparation. That's the problem. Even if I try to force myself by packing that stuff, it just sits there and I go hungry because I just feel nauseated when I try to eat them. :confused3 None of the veggies I seem to like are all that good in terms of what they have in them: lettuce (mostly water), corn (little nutrional value), peas (high in sodium), etc. It's just really depressing thinking I'm either stuck eating things that I can't stand or not eating healthily. :sad1:

That breakfast sounds soooooooo filling! And wow you had salad at breakfast! Dedication right there. And it sounds like you do what I do at Subway: pour on the veggies (they're fine in sandwiches, I just can't eat them solo, go figure). I figure I'm paying the same price, I'll take them for all they got in produce! ;)

Hi, everyone,

Rick: Congrats on choosing your first full! Let us know what plan you decide to use.

Dave: Great job on the weight loss!

Vicky: Your clean eating breakfast sounds yummy. What brand of chicken bacon do you use?

Saylan: I'll add a dollar to my travel jar for every mile to save for race costs too. Great idea!:thumbsup2 I can certainly donate a portion for charity. There are some great running charities out there.

Anyone ever heard of the Krispy Kreme Challenge? It is a local race for charity that my 'friends" are trying to get me to run next year. Don't think I'll do it, even though it involves two of my favorite things!
