Hakuna Matata - August Days and Nights!!

Good Morning Team!

Got out for another 6 miles today, but the weight is up half a pound! It was hot by the time I got home (at 7:30).

Dave - we are cruising the day after the DL half marathon - get to fly from LAX to Orlando on a red eye and go straight to the ship! Sorry - no steamer trunks on this trip, we are trying to keep ourselves to 1 checked bag each, and our carry-ons. Yes, I remember those days of weight guessing carnies.

Eva - cute puppy!

Have to run errands today, then :laundy: and working on the basement - decided to hold off on finishing the painting for next week when Scott is gone, this week I am going to work on cleaning up all that drywall dust that is everywhere in the basement!

Have a great day everyone!

Hi everybody!!

Did a really nice 3 miler on the dreadmill before PT! I have one more visit before I get released!!!! It seems that I finally got rid of some scar tissue during my 10 miler and boy does my toe feel better!!! Did 26 miles this week!

Scott: Good luck on your Dallas trip!

Lynn: Good work on the minimal weight gain during your cruise! Cleaning up
drywall dust constitues cross training!!

VR: Your little girl is adorable!! Give her an ear scratch for me!

Margie:  This heat and humidity is murder!! Give little Hagen a big hug!!

Connie: Hope you are feeling better!!

Good luck to everybody racing this weekend!!!

Erica:)

Her name is Savannah...or Little Monster as we also call her. :stitch2:

Just popping in before I head out for a 5 miler...then it's off to another fun filled day at the office. Ugh. Only 16 more days of work before WDW!!! :yay:

Good morning.

Mark and I did our 5 miles this morning. There was a fine mist of rain going on but it felt good. Made it for a very dark morning and not much better when the sky brightened, you can't really say the sun came up because it's so dreary out. We've already surpassed the rainfall amount for all of last year and we still have 4 months left! The grass is green, mushrooms are growing and people are depressed so much for a great summer. Actually for me it helps keep the temps down so I don't mind it that much.

I have PT tomorrow - 3 left for me at 7am and Mark and I would like to do a 5 mile walk before so we may head out even earlier thatn 4:55! but I"m only at 15 miles this week and I wanted 20 so I know what I have to do!!!

Have a good one all!

In the office doing the testing on the new software, working good so far. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Eva, yes a very cute little monster, that is why we love them, even when they are bring dogs.

Got a good rain last night, got some more stuff done in the basement, then my compressor died, pulled it apart and got a new part ordered, actually good timing as I will be away next week.

Have a very minor muscle pull that I am going to rest the next couple of days doing some stretching. 5K on Friday, should do well if the weather stays cool, no speed demon like Jennifer.

Gotta think about packing, we also have a wedding on Sat in Denver, got my get through airport security letter, that is a timesaver.

Good morning team.

Today was easy day in preperation for saturdays race. I did an hour of calistetics, pilaties and stretching. I wanted to do something but rest my legs. I have to figure out what I want to do tomorrow. I'm thinking 3 miles easy and upper body weights.

Thank you Canadian friends for leaving the door open so we could get some cooler air. It will be 58 in the morning when I do my race, :dance3:

How is everyone feeling? Shoulder better Connie? Did you get a rest day Margie?

Have a wonderfull day team.

Good Morning Team!

Just took a short dog walk this morning - plan to get in a Pilates tape later. Tomorrow is a long walk - 8 miles scheduled - will have to get up early to beat the heat. It is actually cooler here also, todays high should be 78. But even 70 feels warm to me when walking! It has also been humid here - 90 percent this morning - this is the state where 15 - 30 percent is normal! It was very pleasant out at 6am this morning, it is even still pleasant out today at 8am, or course, I am not out walking now!

I have taped my knees - something I used to do all the time when they hurt all the time - it has really helped, they still hurt when I walk, but not as badly, and now they are not hurting when I quit walking! Now I just need to find more of this tape here in Cheyenne - I am almost out of what I brought from Jackson, I got it from my acupuncturist/physical therapist in Jackson, I have been calling some physical therapists here in Cheyenne - so far no luck - may have to have it shipped from Jackson!

Have a great day everyone!

Ok, I feel like a DUH. Looked back at the week and have done the 20 miles already. Ah well, 25 for the week never hurt my butt so let's go for that!

Good Luck on all the upcoming weekend races. Our road race is next Thursday. Only a 5K but very walker friendly.

Good evening,
Well for a change it's still raining in la belle province. It's really been a yeurky summer. In the last 20 days, it's been raining 18 days. I know that Sir Panda wants our cold weather but Sir could you send us some of your sun at least for 48 hours, please.
So I haven't been able to ride my bike because of the nice weather but i've been running under rain.
And to finish this beautifull day, the computer were down all afternoon at work and we are stuck with all the problems tonight.
But life is good...

Bye bye
Diane

Panda, I forgot to ask earlier how long is your upcoming race? Good luck with it!

Lynn, be careful on those knees. If you need tape before PT you may want to check with your local High School (or community college). I know this sounds crazy, but when I was in high school I took sports medicine and we had to buy our own tape through the school. They would always order extra and if we didn't need it, they would sell it at cost to teachers, students, or anyone who asked about it.

Denise, Haha about miss counting miles. I once ran on an off day because I couldn't remember the day of the week (I was traveling) and it messed up my count for nearly a month.

Diane, Isn't Provence always beautiful? That's what I thought from the pictures in my French class.

As for me, I did my usual pre-5k training. We had a rain storm this afternoon so it was nice and cool and surprisingly less humid. I did my hilly 5k course in 26:45 and the course tomorrow is waaay flat compared. My realistic goal is something in the 26s again (my dream goal is in the low 25s and I'll be satisfied with anything below a 28). For those of you that have done more evening races what/when do you eat? I run at 8 and I'll have to be there at 7:15. I know I don't want to eat dinner before, but I'm worried about running on a really empty stomach. Any suggestions?

Jennifer

Jennifer, my uneducated thoughts would be to eat like you would before a morning race at about the same time interval. Bagel with PB and a bannana is a pre run staple, with a power bar 30 min before the start of a long race i.e. a1/2. Also a sport drink is good, gotta keep hydrated.

My thought for what they be worth. You and the Panda will rock this weekend.

Will see how we do on our 5K, fun either way, as I was running this morning I know I can step up my pace and may just do so, I gotta learn to get a better feel for that kinda stuff.

We got the bar back cabinets in last night, looks good if I do say so myself.

Foggy and cool this morn, kinda nice.

Hip bone connected to the walking bone. Well I went at 7 for PT and my hip is still bothering me so she gave me some exercises to do. Basically lunges and using a band tied to my knees to do a scissor motion. Both hips are giving me an issue but my left is worse. We did a few stretches and it helped – to do just 10!

I wanted to go for a walk this morning but with work crazy, PT and then commitments for tonight I just dreaded the thought of rushing through the day so we didn’t go out. In the end I’m glad I didn’t.

Won’t post my total for the week yet cause Mark and I might still go out tonight, maybe the track since it’s an even surface and that might be ok for the hips.

Well I am at work so I’ll sign off. Best of luck to racers this weekend. Keep cool, and thanks for the extra miles for the team!

Hi guys I just got internet back and now off to work. I'll try to catch up tonight.

Have an awesome day y'all.

Working Panda

Good Morning Team!

We (the dogs and I) got in an 8.45 mile walk this morning. I got up early to avoid the heat - but it was cool and misting. During our walk, it got really foggy - so much so that I had to take off my glasses - they were too fogged to see thru! Got thru the walk OK - I was worried about my one knee that was really bothering me last night (for some reason, the knees are worse after a short walk than after longer walks), but the pain it in calmed down after I warmed up. It never did get warm out, in fact, the sun has just come out in the last 5 minutes (10:30). Next week I will go for a 10miler. I felt good after the 8 miles, and the pace was not fast, but I would have beat the sweepers!

Good idea about the schools for the tape - I did find one Physical Therapist here so far who sells the tape, but his price is about double the internet price, so I think it would be cheaper to buy off the internet and pay the shipping! I still have some others to try, I so far, just tried the closer ones.

We did not get our bike ride in last night - they just chip sealed the road we ride on - I was not up for riding on a newly chip sealed road!

Tomorrow for us is the Susan Komen 5K race. I am not looking for any kind of record, I may just hang out with our friends who are walking (and they walk really slowly). There are no sweepers on this race.:rotfl:

Have a great day everyone!

Nothing of import to report ... just stopping by to wish everyone a great weekend!

Dave & Jen - Good luck with the races!! Can't wait to hear about them :)

Connie - I'll get my hours to you later tonight. I'm still hopeful that I'll get out for one more walk tonight.

Hi Team!

I am tooooo far behind to catch all the post this week - and due to a foot problem (an area in my arch about 3-inches long and 1/2-inch wide with a big knot in the center is painful & really-really swollen) my walking is way down. I decided to rest & ice it before it became a major issue. :confused3 It was a good excuse to go buy a pair of those $50 FitFlops in lime green.

Was hoping Hagen's schedule tonight would work so we could get a short easy walk in, but it was not to be.

Erica, Hagen is sleeping over and I gave him an extra hug from you. Great mileage this week, Woman!!!! :cool1:

Connie, how is your shoulder? I will be PMing my time & miles in a few.

:hippie: Hope you have a fantastic race tomorrow! :thumbsup2

wellesleyprincess, will check out the site...Thanks!

Lynn, glad the tape is solving the knee problem...hope you can find it locally :flower3:

Quick race recap:

It went very well. 25:32 time and 2nd in my age group. There's this girl (who is at the oldest end of my age group while I'm at the youngest) who has beat me at every race. I'm slightly annoyed because I finished just 17 seconds after her, but I still beat 26 minutes. My mom's race went well she came in 2nd out of 5 in her age group and I've now got her looking into the Couch to 5k plan. Unfortunately, the group of people who run in our area are not very walker friendly (a long story) so she's still having a tough time with the idea of walking distances.

Jennifer

Jennifer you did awesome. I'm a walker so not nearly as fast as you. I will be about 10 min slower than you.

It's a nice crisp day so should be nice to attack the rolling hills of Franklin Ky. I don't know yet who all wil be there to race since this is my first race of the season I don't know who all are raceing right now. Last year this 5K drew some good talent. Prize money and free shoes brings people out.

Wish me luck, I'll represent y'all with my best. Grrrrrrrrr, attack panda!

Racing Pandapirate:

Tora Tora Tora PANDA!!!!!!!

Jennifer, YOU ROCK, bummer on the unfriendly walker / runner deal. I am a runner albeit slow, I have been passed by walkers , walking is to be respected, if some runner snobs tried it they would be surprised how hard it is.

Looks like a clear day here so our 5K Susan Koman race on, will be fun, will give it my best, doing is far better than watching.

Then off to Denver and then Dallas tomorrow.

Later kids,

Give um H.... E... doubble hockey sticks PANDA.

Good morning guys.

The race went very well. I got to see my old race walking buddies from the senior olympics and a lot of my runner buds. This was my first competition since last Oct so I was curious how my fitness was.

The race was a 5K in Franklin Ky, a little country town with lots of rolling hills. We started at the town square in front of the court house. The runners took off 5 min before the walkers and it looked to be about an equal turnout of walkers and runners. There was a long straight stretch about a half mile long so even though the runners took off ahead of us we could see the back of the run pack when we took off.

There were several racewalkers there but when the gun sounded the Tenn state Senior champion, Jerry, and I shot out to the lead and maintained it the rest of the race. At the beginning I was seeing a shadow off to my right and thought another walker was just behind me. But when we truned at the half mile mark I realized it was my own shadow.

We, Jerry and I, hit the 1 mile with him about 10 feet ahead of me, my 1 mile split was 10:39. The 1 to 2 mile was meandering through the residential area and I hit the 2 mile in 21;56. I was well within the back of the runner pack by now and so wasn't real sure if I had anyone close or not, so I just paid a ttention to good technique and told my body to relax during the last mile.

The last mile I picked up the pace a little but it still felt comfortable and the last tenth I sprinted out a little since I had some energy left. I had paced conservatively since I din not want my first race of the year to end with me out of gas before the finish. I crossed the finish feeling strong and ready to go more in 33:58, for a pace of 10:57 per mile and a new PR for the raceing panda. My effort was enouth for second place over all after Jerry. Last year at this race I was 4th.

Now it's time for some food, a shower and yard work.

Scott and Lynn good luck in your race.
