Hakuna Matada - Racing into January!

Good Morning Team!

Vicky - It seems like everyone has been getting some of our wind! Sorry, I will not be here either to keep thread going - we are also headed out for vacation (cruise then fly to Hawaii to check out Aulani) shortly. It will be up to Tandy and Sue!

Dave - Travel safely! Have a great time at WDW!

Sue - Have fun on the bike!

Tandy - I know it is normal, but disappointing, to stall on weight loss, and it usually doesn’t happen 3 days after starting to lose weight! I guess I am just eating more calories than I think I am LOL I use fat free half and half - which I switched to years ago when a nutritionist told me to switch from the Mocha Mix I had been using. Then I use sugar free flavored syrup for flavoring - I really only like what Scott calls fu-fu coffee.

Mike - Does this mean we should be looking for marathons in Wyoming for you? The Denver Marathon - yes, Colorado, not WY, is a lot of fun.

Rick - Congrats on your weight loss! Keep up the great work!

AFM - Winds are back!!! Yesterday was really nice, we got out to the bike path on the bikes, I did crash, running off the path while trying to avoid some snow/ice, messed up the bike a bit, just a few bruises on my leg. Scott fixed the bike, it is now as good as new! We logged 12 miles in 1 hour.

To all those in the winter storms - stay safe!

Pixie dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day team!

That's right! I forgot ... Have a safe trip and enjoy the beaches and warm weather!!

Hello team!

Good luck and safe travels to those going to WDW! I'm looking forward to meeting many of you.

Lynn - Have a good vacation!

Eva - Happy belated birthday!

Have a good night!

Hi, everyone,

Looking forward to meeting those of you who will be at the POP meet on Friday!

Vicky: You are a fantastic captain and I don't want a turn!

Dave: :grouphug: I read the sad news about Robert and Linda.

Lynn: Enjoy the trip; can't wait to some pics on FB.

Tandy: How is the knee? I'm trying to eat better too. I slipped yesterday and had a Coke at work. Other than that, I'm feeling pretty good about the food choices that I'm making. I worry about my oldest DD's weight too and I'm trying to work on improving her eating habits so we'll keep each other motivated in both those areas!

Sue: Happy biking!

AFM: Boy do I have a pain in the butt to deal with, literally. I was doing 4.5 miles on the TM and somehow pulled it; perhaps it was my form because I thought I was over pronating when my right leg pushed off. Argh, I'm already a very slow runner so I'm hoping this is resolved by Saturday.

Good morning guys, we are here and getting ready to go to marketing and then off to the fun.

Thank you guys for being so great this year.

Dave:hippie::hippie:

Safe travels all, I may or may not make it on this thread, so have a great 2 weeks!

I hope everyone has an amazing time at Disneyworld. Go team Hakuna Matada! :cheer2:And, Lynn, have a great time in Hawaii.

I will happily hold the fort down with Sue, and keep track of everyone's progress.

My knee feels good one minute and hurts the next. I'm confused. :confused3 I will just play it by ear and not push it. I've started doing some pretty serious core work for the butt and hips in the hopes of strengthening everything.

I'm almost done completely reorganizing the kitchen. I took every single thing out of it 2 days ago, so it's been fun to rework it. Things were just in the wrong places and there were so many things we just never used. It'll be good to work with a clean slate.

Doing great on the clean eating! I found the lite half and half and it's just as good as the full fat stuff! :thumbsup2 Harrison is sticking to his diet too. He's going to start lifting weights today, which he's kind of excited about. He's got such a great frame for muscles, if he's just do something! :)

Good Morning Team!

Lynn, Have a fantastic trip.

Tandy, You are a cleaning machine. My kitchen is not too bad but the rest of our house needs a total purge and reorg. I don't want to waste a vacation day(s) doing it though. I think I will have to pick 1 closet or dresser every weekend and tackle it that way.
Do you train with a heart rate monitor? I've had the Garmin 305 for a couple of years now. Only wore the monitor off and on for the occasional run. I have started back wearing one for every workout. I'm doing some online reading about training with one.
Any training tips?

Have a great day, travels and park visits.............Sue

Sue: I have always done my cleaning that way too. Just one small project at a time. But, I find that I just move piles around from one area to the next. :lmao: Not really accomplishing anything. Our kitchen was by far the worst area of our house, as long as you don't count the basement. That'll be next, because we have kitchen storage down there, and it needs to just be purged entirely.

I have a 305 also, but have only used the HRM once. It was so tight that I couldn't breath, and I didn't like it. Of course, I could try it again a bit looser but haven't yet. :rotfl:Are you thinking about getting something else, or does it work for you? As far as training tips, what are you looking for? I'm obviously struggling with running right now. Every time I start to increase my distance, I feel like I don't have time for anything else, and my core and stabilizers suffer, then, injury. So, I'm not leading by example.

AFM: The kitchen is done!!!! Next project: Christmas decorations. I didn't realize how long they had been up. :guilty: Then, touch up painting and lastly, the basement. I need to be done by the time I start school on the 17th. I just got my first book on Venice from the library. I think I'm going to take a break from cleaning and just veg out.

Tandy: You are truly a machine. I can't believe all that you do every day. I'm glad you took a break with the book!

AFM: Heading to Disney!:earsboy:

Sue: I always run with my HRM -- during training runs and races. I like the instant feedback it provides on my heart rate, distance, and pace. Since I tend to start out too fat on race day, the watch helps me to stay on my desired pacing in the beginning especially. And I like that it downloads all my trainings into the computer for my logbook. :)

The HRM part is important to me as a 51 year old who just started running last April -- I didn't want to over stress the ticker! My trainer set up 'heart rate zones' in the watch and I do my training while keeping my heart rate within certain zones (range of beats-per-minute) depending upon what I am doing (long runs, easy runs, temp, or intervals).

The one thing I have learned from using the HRM regularly is matching my heart rate to my body signals for when I am over exerting myself and pushing my heart rate too high. For example, my Long Runs should never make my heart rate go above Zone 2 or I am running too fast (Long Runs being more for teaching the body how to burn fat more efficiently for long durations and to get in a lot of 'foot time').

AFM: I am at Disney! Arrived Wednesday at POP. Spent the afternoon with my son at Hogwarts (Universal Studios) and then hung out at the food court. Just woke from a nice sleep and am catching up on posts before heading to breakfast, Guest Relations, and the Expo!!!!

It was rather chilly yesterday -- in the high 40s. But the sky was clear, no wind, and the sun felt great. It is supposed to be warmer today and through the weekend.

See all you soon! If you see an African American wearing a Hot Chocolate 15K jacket and a black backpack, that's probably me! Say hello!

Last day before the race. Must stretch and massage, park walking is tough and tiring. I have slept 8+ hours a night since I've been here and eaten ummmm sorta good, NOT! Oh well a rested well fed and well hydrated body is what you want to take to the start right?

Good luck everyone, see y'all at breakfast.

Dave:hippie:

Hope everyone is having an awesome time. I'm sure you're all going to do an amazing job tomorrow and Sunday! :cheer2:

I managed a 3.5 mile walk today with no pain! First time since Christmas!!!! I think I may venture a 2 mile run on Monday. And, I think I'm giving up on my dream of running an ultra. :sad1:I don't want to keep injuring myself, especially since my future job involves me standing for 12 hour shifts. I also can't train Harrison right now for the 8 miler, so we made a compromise. We're both going to run a 10k again in April, but when it's over, he's going to keep running this time. I don't think I'm going to do any more than half marathons anymore, and I know he eventually wants to run one. So, maybe we'll just shoot for that. It's a little disheartening, but I'm ok with my decision. :thumbsup2

Everything else is going well. Harrison, Frank and I are doing well on the diet. I haven't weighed yet, but know that I've lost a few.

I hope everyone is having a great time. Happy running everyone!

Tandy, Sorry to hear that you are giving up on the ultra. Never say never though. Glad to hear your eating is going well. We are also off to a good start as well. Tomorrow at the ski club will be a test. We have a heart stopping artery clogging snack called Poutine. It's hard to resist.
Fries topped with cheese curds and gravy. Yum...........:lovestruc

Very mild temps today. Hard to believe I ran tonight in a long sleeve shirt. No jacket was needed.
DD starts ski lessons tomorrow so we a hitting the slopes for the 1st time this season................Sue

Oh, I used to love to ski. I grew up in a ski resort town in Colorado, and we went at least once a week. Funny that she starts her lessons tomorrow, because Harrison is starting ice skating lessons tomorrow! That is wonderful to have that kind of weather in January in Canada. Wow! It's been 60 degrees Fahrenheit here for the last 3 days. I don't know what's going on with this weather. I have heard about Poutine many times. If I ever make it up there, I'm going to have to try it. Sounds good to me. Hey, Frank even likes mayo on his fries. He's one step ahead of me. :thumbsup2

I know I shouldn't say never, but I'm just trying to come to terms, if you know what I mean? No worries. I am quick to rethink things and change my mind. Female prerogative, you know! ;)

I just booked my hotel for Venice!!!!! I'm so excited for this trip. After much haggling with my husband, I have booked a room completely away from the crazy crowded touristy areas and am excited to try to see the other side of Venice. I hope he's not too bored, but I'll be happiest just wandering for our 5 days there. We don't have to do any planning for our week in Germany. We'll just stay in Carsten's apartment, eat where he tells us to, and be where we need to be to help with wedding preparations!

Anyway, hope to keep track of everyone tomorrow. Will try to post finishes when I get results. :thumbsup2 Of course, I don't have everyone's bib #s, but will work with what I have.

I hope everyone had a great time running and walking today!
:cheer2:Good job everyone!:cheer2: I could only see a couple people's results before it wouldn't let me look anymore (is there a limit?), but I'm sure you all did great! For those of you who are done, make sure you're taking care of yourself and enjoy the rest of the vacation. For those still running tomorrow, make sure you rest tonight! Tomorrow's going to be awesome! :thumbsup2

I finished!!!!! I am a Half Marathoner!! Finished with a 2:29:01 time. And I have finally met many WISHers over the past two days!!! This has by far been one of the most amazing experiences of my life!! Oh, and I forgot to mention that I ran the 5K with my son Ryan on Friday (his first 5K!). That was another awesome event!

Congratulations to everyone who ran the Donald today and finished as well! Such a shared experience!

Thank you all for being supportive of this journey and helping me with your advice and friendship!

After running 13.1, it makes me wonder if I can actually run 26.2 this October. But I know you will help me accomplish that goal as well. :scared1:

I will be cheering for everyone running the Mickey and Goofy tomorrow! You will be fabulous!

Rick: Fantastic job and what a great time!!!!:cheer2: Can you believe how far you've come? It's wonderful. :thumbsup2 You can absolutely do the full this October. It's just tired achy muscles making you doubt it now. Don't worry.

Hello Out There.........Thought I better give us a bump back to the top of the page.

I hope everyone had a great race weekend and are enjoying some park time today.

Rick, What a fantastic race result!:woohoo: I don't doubt you will be able to conquer the 26.2 in October.

Tandy, How was your weekend? Will you be doing WDW'13 race weekend? DH and I were reliving our races yesterday and making tentative plans for 2013. I have no regrets taking this year off except for seeing everyone running in shorts/ ss sleeves and tanks.

We had a great day of skiing on Sat. The weather was unbelievable for Jan.

Have a great evening. Tonight is a bike workout...........Sue

Does anyone know what they are building over behind Magic Kingdom? Looks like at least 4 massive rides with a new castle, fort and mountains.

We are off to open the Studios for some Toy Story fun!!

Hope everyone is recovering well.
