Hakuna Matada - Let's March!

Sally and I did an hour training walk in the mall this morning. Going slower with her 3 days a week keeps me from overdoing and getting injured again.

Yes Vicky, big yard. It takes a good solid 3 hours to mow.

Lynn, hope you and your wild man have an awesome time on vacation.

Hi Team,

Well, we survived and conquered a busy race weekend. I picked Liz up from work at 1230 on Friday and we made the three hour drive down to Decatur. We picked up our race packets for the Penguin in the Park 5K and checked into our hotel. We got the exact same room that I had last year. Then, it was off to dinner at Red Lobster. We had plans for a movie, but I was exhausted after only two hours of sleep after working all Thursday night.
Saturday morning, we got up early, piled on our layers and headed out for the race. The wind chill was 17 degrees and the wind was blustery. Great weather for Penguins! :goodvibes We got to hang out with John Bingham before the race, and had a great time talking to him. The race started at 9 and was chip timed for the first time, and this was year six for the race.
It started off with two drastic uphills and then levels off for awhile with a wicked pedestrian bridge just after the two mile mark. It's on a bikepath through a park near Milikin University. The atmosphere was really fun and relaxed as you would expect from a Penguin type of crowd. (I'm slow, get over it!) At some point on the path Liz stepped on the edge and rolled her ankle and twisted her knee that she had surgery on. It had me worried, but it seems there is no real damage. I finished in 27:58 with a pace of 9:01. I can't recall Liz's time at the moment.
They had an awesome spread at the University gym and great giveaways. John gave a talk and posed for pictures with each award winner. All in all, a great time! I stole a poster for the race that was stapled to a telephone pole. pirate:

Then it was a long trek home via Chicago to pick up my packet for Sunday's half marathon. We drove something like 320 miles. Ugg! I got home, threw my running clothes in the washer, and slept for a few hours while Liz went to babysit for some friends having an anniversary night out. I got up and had to go to work to place an order, as it was actually my weekend to work and I had to wheel and deal to get off. Then home and slept two more hours and got up and drove back to Chicago.
I parked right outside the entrance to Lincoln park zoo and was one of the first ones there. It was again cold (wind chill 19 degrees) and there was a constant wind blowing right off Lake Michigan. The race started at 8am and the day turned out to be clear and very sunny. The course wound up and down the lakefront with lots of turnarounds and crossing points. The lake had whitecaps and four foot waves crashing on shore and part of the race was diverted a little to avoid the ice from the lakewater. There was on course entertainment consisting of a few people here and there that happened to show up and decide to sing. I heard the worst version of Blue Bayou that has ever been played, by an odd looking couple with a bongo and an electric guitar. Made me pick up the pace.
I used the run 4 walk 1 method again as I haven't really been training much. I finished in 2:19:25 which is about a minute faster than last weekends half. I was a little disappointed in the medal as it looks as if it was made as cheaply as possible, or maybe I was comparing it to the Penguin medal which is really nice. :confused3 The shirt was really cheap too!
After the race, I toured the zoo a little to get inside and warm up a little. The race wore me out so I didn't stay long. When I got home, I showered and crashed until I had to pick Liz up from work. Then slept a few and had to work!

Almost forgot, at the Penguin 5K we ran into a WISH couple who had there shirts on and had been on a marathon cruise with John. We are everywhere! I think her name is Pat and her id is WDWFAN followed by a number that I can't remember (9?).

THIS WEEKEND, I AM TAKING OFF!!

We pretty much decided against the WDW weekend and the Bingham cruise next year. (then I read Eva's post~ curse you~ temptress!) We have other bills to pay.

Hope that all of you are well! Mike :cool2:

Hi team! Sorry to be MIA lately - it's a little busy at work because we're moving to a new floor. On the one hand, I'm looking forward to new workstations, nicer lights and more workspace but packing in just such a PITA!! At least it's a good opportunity for us to clean house - at least that's how I'm looking at it.

So I need help from the team - I'm lack a bit in the creativity department and I can't think of something catchy for April. Any ideas?

Well, I have to get back to it and I promise to catch up with everyone tonight! :wave2:

Good Morning Team!

Vicky - Moving is always a pain, whether for work or home! Good luck at your new location! I am sure you will come up with something great for April!

Dave - Thanks, we will have a great time!

Mike - Great race reports! I am amazed that you can even manage to run a race with your sleep schedule! (I did graveyard shift for years, so I know the challenges).

AFM - Got out for dog walk and then spent a hour on the spin bike yesterday. Today will be more challenging, we are under a high wind (up to 60mph) warning from noon today until 6pm tomorrow! :scared1: Not that the high wind warning is new, it usually will not last 2 days! Will get out with the dogs before noon. The good news is that the high winds bring warmer temps! It will be 70 on Saturday (only to fall to 40 on Sunday). I can barely remember what it was like to have to exercise before breakfast because that is the only time cool enough to be outside exercising!

Pixie dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day team!

Hi all! just a quick chance to post. I'll update more later but Vicky, how about "Awaiting an Awesome April"? lol Just a thought.

We met at the mall since it was misting rain and 39 degrees. I'm really not wanting to train outside till the weather is nice, I'm finally well and want to stay that way.

We did a strong 5 miles and I felt like I could have done it all over again. I'm very pleased with the progress I've made since I started training again. An hour 5 or 6 days a week alternating hard and easy days should be just the ticket right now.

Hey team!

I've decided to add the 30 Day Shred back into my routine - in addition to the running. Whee!

How about Hakuna Matata ~ Springing into April

Tonight's running club after PT. Yay!!

I was going to say if people are on twitter, they should totally follow the Bronx Zoo Cobra twitter, but apparently the account got suspended. Probably because some idiots thought it was really saying where the missing cobra is and freaking out. It was flipping hysterical. Spoilsports!!! If it comes back, I'll let you know.

Hey Vicky~

How about: "Hakuna Matata~ Waiting for the weather to make up it's freaking mind, because we are tired of freezing our butts off and having to wear multiple layers while still trying to find the motivation to actually exercise outside on gloomy, rainy, frosty days that should be warmer by now, with sunshine and green grass with children playing outside and chances to ride motorcycles and watch girls in bikinis walk by while eating and ice cream cones with sprinkles on top, supercalifragilistic, ride like the wind Bullseye, where did I leave my margarita, have a nice day!" ?

Just a thought, Mike :cool2:

I second Mike's suggestion. :lmao:

So I'm faced with a tough decision today. Do I buy more personal training sessions or not? I've seen a lot of progress with my overall health but I'm not yet where I want to be. I've slowly gained weight (which could be muscle since my body shape isn't changing for the worse) and that is making me feel slightly discouraged. And it's not exactly cheap so it's not a easy decision to make. :confused3

Ugh, hate making tough calls like this.

Rest day for me. I've had training walks for the last 4 days in a row so it's time for cautious pandas to take a break. Tomorrow since it will still be raining and 30s I'll be back at the mall for my training walk.

Good news Sally and I will not have to pay any additional taxes.

Dave:hippie:

Good Morning Team!

Vicky - I am sure you will come up with something great for April!

Saylan - Good luck with you decision about personal training sessions!

Beth - Good luck with the 30 Day Shred!

Dave - Good news about not owing any taxes!

Mike - Nice title! I see you are as frustrated with Spring as the rest of us!

AFM - I did get out before wind got tooooo bad (30-40mph) for our dog walk! Our wind gauge shows that 51 was max wind speed for yesterday, so not as strong as forecast. I also got in 50 min of Pilates and 30 min of weights. It will continue to be windy all day today - currently 25-30 mph, so I will have to brave the wind again with the dogs!

Pixie dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day team!

Hello, everyone,

I need to go back and read a lot of posts but I hope you are all doing well and managing to keep up with your runs in spite of the yucky weather we are all having.

My DH had a second phone interview for a job, convinced me that he blew it, only to find out that he has an in-person interview for the position next Wednesday. Keep that pixie dust coming because it seems to be working!

Hi Everyone,

I got some serious sleep today because Liz is off work and keeping Robert busy. Spring break has been brutal on my getting any rest.

Dave~ Yeah, for no extra taxes! Also, way to get to the mall for training in the bad weather!

Saylan~ would you be as motivated to work out without paying for a trainer? I'm always more apt to exercise if I have to pay for it.

Elizabeth~ I'll add me PD to your husbands job quest! Good luck to him!

AFM~ Slept alot, currently sitting around watching Red Sonja, a horrible movie, but better than the other reruns on tv!

Mike :cool2:
