Hakuna Matada - Let's March!

Good Morning Team!

It's been so long since I've been here. Sorry I don't have time to catch up on all posts. Hope everyone & training are going well. Work is beyond crazy!

Vicky, We lucked out with yesterday's snow. Odd that dwntwn received more than the burbs. We got really nothing. The roads were clear but I opted for a spin class. Sounds like cold temps are with us for a few more days.

Mike & Beth, Congrats on your great race results.

Eva, I swear by the back to back long runs for Goofy. Others will disagree. Good luck with your training.

Lynn, Has the no desserts going?

Was suppose to race on Sunday but I'm blowing it off.........Need to get back to work...............Have a great day everyone........Sue

Good Morning Team!

I am waiting for my car to be fixed - windshield washer not working - so I am on my iPad, which is not as easy to type on as a computer keyboard.

Sue - still doing good on no desserts!

Dave - good to hear Sally got a paycheck, that was quick, don't you usually have to wait for the first one? Glad to hear you are feeling stronger!

Emily - we just put our corned beef, beer (Guiness) and all the spices in a crock pot, set on low and let it cook all day - no turning or anything.

Mike - good luck with whatever you decide to do - the marathon cruise does sound interesting. If you do the Dumbo, have fun with it.

Elizabeth -good luck and pixie dust to your husband today!

Vicky - yes, there are rest stops on the bike ride every 20 miles, with portapotty, water and snacks - kind of like water stop in a race. The Ginger shrimp recipe sounds good, I will have to try it.

AFM - short walk with the dogs, pilots and weights, knee is hurting today, will go for exercise bike today.

Pixie dust for all who are in need!

Have a great day team!

Good morning team! I did a longer post this morning but it didn't quite make it onto the site.

Emily - Awesome! I'll do a search for it when I'm done posting! I love the Allrecipes site! I've found a lot of the best tasting meals take a while to cook. I've made a whole chicken a couple of times and it's yummy but it just feels like it takes a LONG time in the oven. Hope the rain clears up and you're able to get out tonight!

Mike - What a race! I've run in a summer downpour before and it's kind of fun! I do turn back when I can hear lightning (because with my luck you just never know). But hail yikes! And yes, you should definitely go Goofy! Eva, you and I can be Team Hakuna Matada! Just sayin... (and Sue you know you want to go Goofy too! ;) )

Dave - You've got your GRRR! back and I'm glad that Sally's getting into the walks as well! Sounds like you'll have a race walking partner in no time!

Sue - We got a medium amount of snow - I'm midtown so it wasn't great. It was enough to cause bus delays but on the positive side, I ended up getting in a 30 minute walk because of it :) Ah, sorry to hear about ATB ... I'll take it off the calendar.

Lynn - I was eating leftovers from the ginger shrimp last night and was thinking that it was a little too "sweet". But this is coming from someone who's cut out a lot of refined sugars. I think I might make it with half the honey next time (which even that much to begin with). I keep wanting to make your bobotie recipe again ... I just haven't had the time :(

AFM - It snowed yesterday so the traffic was bad enough that I didn't bother going to the gym or running on the roads. I did get in a 30 minute walk though. Still eating healthy and I'm down 1.4 lbs this week. The weight is slowly coming off. I have a quick 30 minute training session tonight and then I'm going to try making a "healthy" cookie. I'm going to try using cashew butter and coconut sugar since it's low GI.

So back on the January thread I posted about looking into new career options. I think I'm going the route of being a nutritionist or dietician. If I go the dietician route, I have to go back and get a BA in food sciences. That doesn't really appeal to me because I already have a BA and it's four years. The nutritionist certification is a bit faster but I'm not sure if the services are covered by insurance plans -- kind of like psychologist vs. psychotherapist. Might pair either one with a personal training program ... I'm still looking into things so we'll see. In the meantime, my small goal is to get switched into a different group at work and hopefully be part of a better team!

Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

Hi, everyone,

My DH's interview went very well. We are cautiously optimistic that this leads to something. He has a follow-up interview next Wednesday. During this interview he received a call about another position. It's been a tough year but I think that it is starting to look up. Keep sending those good wishes!

Beth: I enjoy reading your race reports but if you get to stay at the Poly then you must do a resort report for me. ;) I've always wanted to stay there!

Lynn: I thought of your windy day post today. We've got quite a breeze today but nothing like the gusts that you experienced. Glad that it has calmed down.

Dave, Emily, Sue, Vicky, Mike, and everyone else: Enjoy the rest of your week!

Hi Team!

Sorry to have been MIA the last week or so. Ken and I just got back from a vacation/business trip. We went to Denver to visit our DD for four days, then out to Vegas for a business trip. The weather in Denver was beautiful the first day we were there, and we planned to get up early in the morning to go for a run, but surprise! There was snow on the ground! We are not cold weather runners---we trained on the indoor track at the gym for the WDW half! So, no exercise for us in Denver!

Then off to Vegas. Sidewalks way too crowded for running IMHO, but I did see three runners while we were there. We were there for the Construction Expo, and that convention center and the surrounding parking lots that were full of exhibits were so huge that I know we got in at least four miles just walking around. The hotel charged a fee to use the gym, so we opted out there.

Having a weather related migraine today, so hopefully I'll be back in the swing tomorrow. We haven't made a decision yet about the WDW half. The special Donald medal is tempting, as is the chance to be part of the first relay. But since we have all ready committed to the DL half, we just don't know if we can swing the vacation time.

Vicky...I printed off the shrimp recipe, and may try it next week. It looks really good! Also, our DD is thinking of going back to school to study nutrition. She is taking an intro course this semester just to see how she likes it.

Mike...Hope Liz likes the new shoes. Could you ask her a question for me? When we were at dinner at the Pop, she told me about a sports bra that she bought at the expo. Could you find out what brand it is? I'm going to be in the market soon, so I thought I would look online to see if I can find one like it. Sounds like your race was a combo of the 2009 EE monsoon and the 2010 "Who left the freezer door open?" half. I was in both of those, so I can only imagine what it would be like to put the two together! :scared1:

Here's hoping the warmer weather returns soon!

Good morning team! Happy Friday! Does anyone have weekend plans?

Mary - I can't believe the hotel charges a fee for the gym. I guess they figured that anyone who wanted it badly enough would pay. Were you able to take in any shows while you were there or was it strictly working?

That would be cool if your daughter took the nutrition course. We could swap notes :) I'm going to an information session in about two weeks but I've talked to a couple of people who've taken the program and have really liked it. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it will be something I like.

Elizabeth - That's fantastic news! I hope it works out for DH! Maybe he'll end up getting two job offers and have his pick of where he wants to work. Here's some more pixiedust: coming your way! And if you ever have a chance, stay at the Poly - it is awesome! The staff are beyond wonderful and the grounds are beautiful!

AFM - I did my quick training session at the gym last night. My trainer is a real butt kicker - he'll squeeze an hour workout into 30 minutes. So high intensity with few breaks. We did a boxing workout so there was a lot of cardio mixed in with pushups, planks and roll outs on the ball. I was was dying at the end. I also ended up breaking a couple finger nails and I have a giant bruise on my right knee (thank goodness it's winter). Not sure how the bruise happened - we were doing combos where I was punching and then kneeing the pad. It's sort of like the workouts Kara and Brett do on Biggest Loser. The left knee is fine but the right knee has a real shiner! Go figure!

I've got a massage booked for Sunday morning but not much else planned. I've a few errands to run and will see if I can catch a movie. Oh and there goes the fire alarm at work so I'll catch up with everyone later!

Have a great day :wave2:

:cheer2: Weekend Racers :cheer2:

Good luck Mike & Liz :thumbsup2 The 5K sounds like a really fun race!! And back to back races no less!! Are you going to apply to be a Half Marathon Maniac Mike?

March
26 - Penguin in the Park 5K Decatur, IL (with John Bingham) - Mike & Liz
27 - Chi Town half marathon Chicago, IL - Mike

Good Morning Team!

Vicky - Good Luck with your career goals! Have fun with the massage on Sunday!

Mike - Good luck on your races this weekend!

Mary - Sorry you ran into bad weather in Denver (which is just south of us), hope the migraine left you.

Elizabeth - MOre Pixie Dust to your husband! Wind is finally calm this morning! Yesterdays 15-20mph wind seemed calm after what we have had recently!

AFM - Got in our usual dog walk, and spent 45 min on exercise bike downstairs. It has been cool and windy, today has rain/snow showers predicted, but not until this afternoon, so I will have to get out this morning!

Pixie dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day team!

Well...I lost my latest weight lost challenge...along with the $80 fee. I was 1.4 pounds off allll week. I starved myself, flushed my water weight, even took a laxative last night (I know TMI) and I still weighed in the exact same as 4 days ago. So frustrated. That money was going to pay for another race. :sad2: On a good note...we might be able to move back home this weekend!! They have finished all but 6 stairs worth of carpet (they under ordered the carpet). But as long as we are careful of the tack strips and keep it gated from Gage I think we will be fine to move back home. I haven't gotten a good nights sleep in over a month so it will be really nice to be back in our own bed! I think the dogs and Gage will be better too. They have all been out of sorts more and more each week we have been away from home. Can't WAIT!!! :goodvibes

On to training news...I started my strength portion of my training this week. My quads are still so sore! They are worse than I can remember in a looonnnnnng time! I just keep telling myself that it will help my knee issues and give me added late long run strength. Dont know if I will do the same workout next week since I am slotted for a 11 miler. Maybe I'll just do a shortened modified version. On my LR weeks and my rest weeks I can really push it. Today I am slotted for my core workout...rest tomorrow and then 4 mile pace run on Sunday. I took today and Monday off to get back into our house (as soon as they call it good). Hoping for good weather for Sunday because I'll be able to run outside in my own hood! :cheer2:

Mike - GL on your race this weekend! Yes...you are doing Goofy in Jan and the special Donald medal is key! That's one of the main reasons I am going. It is expensive and last time I ran the full in Disney I swore off ever training in the cold again, BUT that 15 Anniversary medal changed my mind. Donald IS my fav of the fab 5 after all!

Vivky - I think I would love to do kickboxing! They have a class at my gym, but 90% of the classes are on week nights when I am at work. Sounds like it would be fun and a GREAT workout! You are a tough chick!! Oh and I have lost 50 pounds total since I came out of the hospital, but I don't think I can really count 20 of those lbs. They fell right off within a week or so of being home. I gained weight watchers at 165 and I am now 132ish. So it is safe to say I have struggled to get off 30 of those pounds in the last year or so. I am at my goal weight now, just looking to tone up and keep it off! Strange to think that just 14 months ago I was 185 pounds though! It has been tough, but I feel good about my progress. I have low blood pressure and low blood sugar, so low carb/sugar diets don't work well for me. I end up feeling so sick that it's not worth it. I do best with plain old portion control. popcorn::

MaryJ - I know what you mean about Vegas. I ended up using the dreadmill last time we went because it is just too crowded on the streets. Hope you will be able to swing something for WDW marathon weekend!!

Elizabeth - PD to your and the hubby! Sounds just like you said...things seem to be looking up!! :wizard:

Sue - Thanks for the advice about the back to back LRs for Goofy. I have modified the Galloway plan to include more back to back LRs and have scaled down the mileage some so instead of my longest run at 26 it will be 24. I think it looks good on paper...just hoping it goes as well as planned!

Beth - You are a racing fool! I feel like I am slacking with only being registered for 2 races... :thumbsup2

Lynn - Hope your car gets fixed soon!! First the water issue now this...you guys really DID get our bad luck!

Dave - WTG on your 6 miler!! Good job bouncing back from being so sick for so long! I really hope you guys will be able to make it to the marathon this year!

To the rest...happy training! :woohoo:

Great training walk this morning. I went to the mall since it was 33 degrees and threatening rain. I did 4 miles in 51:17, that's a pace of 12:29 per mile and it felt very comfortable. Not back to fast yet but it's a start and nothing hurts. So for once I don't need the pixey dust.

Hope everyone is having an awesome day.

Dave:hippie:

I'm off today so after a 4 mile training walk I'll be doing yardwork all day: push mowing a 1.2 acre yard, trimming and weeding. Then this evening we are going to watch a friend that fiddles do a concert. She could show Charley Daniels how it's done.

During the concert which is at a dairy farm that also makes the milk and ice cream for the town and has a family fun area with food, ice cream, movies and hay rides, we will enjoy fresh ice cream.

Have a super weekend y'all.

Dave:hippie:

Vicky...Yes, we did get to take in one show. We went to see Terry Fator, a ventriloquist who won America's Got Talent 3 or 4 years ago. We've wanted to see him in person ever since we saw his act on television. We have been to Vegas three times since he won and started his show on the strip, and the first two times his show was dark, so we were thrilled to finally get to see the act. We were pleasantly surprised to see that it was at least 75% new material as well.

Lynn...Thankfully the migraine left yesterday. However DH is now sick. He started running a fever yesterday and is due to leave on a business trip to Europe tomorrow. Prayers and PD for a quick recovery would be appreciated!

AFM...Did a 40 minute walk/run on the TM yesterday. Felt good at the time, but today my left knee is a little wonky. Going to the chiro on Monday, so I'll have him take a look at it.

Spring is coming! I just wish it would hurry up!

Good Morning Team!

Eva - Sorry you lost your weight challenge, maybe it was because you have not gotten a good nights sleep? Congrats on being able to move back home! Congrats on the overall weight loss! Car got fixed in an hour - I got to surf the web while I was waiting.

Dave - Have fun with yard work, we were going to work on lawn today - thatching - but it is now covered in snow!

Mary - Pixie dust for DH!

AFM - got in dog walk and some weights yesterday, today is snow covered, will see how long it takes to melt - Scott has gone out to the workshop for his bike stand project, so I had better finish my coffee and join him!

Pixie dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day team!

Hi Team! Happy Monday! :rotfl2:

Sorry a little late in posting. RL came up and bit me this week.

Well done to all those who got out and did some training!

Vicky, thanks for the recipes! I'm going to try them soon as I can. They look awesome.

I managed to get to the gym Monday-Thursday last week and my trainer took my training book away on Thursday telling me to take a rest day. Sure enough, Friday came and I was sick and had to call in (not related to too much working out). So the weekend turned into a veg weekend. :thumbsup2 I missed having one of those.

Good Morning Team!

Happy Monday back at you Saylan! Hope you feel better!

Not a very nice weekend here, on Sat, which was not too bad, I did get out with dogs for a walk, and got down on the exercise bike for an hour. Yesterday was snowing, and we did nothing but plan bike rides! Today is still snowing, will probably turn to rain later in the day. Snow has been melting by afternoon, but not nice to be outside right now! At least the wind has been a bit calmer!

Pixie Dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day team!

Happy Monday :) Hope everyone had a great weekend!

Saylan - The do nothing weekends are the best! It's nice waking up and rushing to have to be somewhere, or mentally running through a list of errands/chores that need to get done. Glad to hear it was relaxing! I hope you're feeling better today!

Lynn - Here's hoping the snow has melted in your neck of the woods! I'm done with the white stuff and cold weather! Bring on the sunshine and warm weather :) How's your knee doing these days?

Mary - I haven't heard of him but the show sounds neat! I always thought ventriloquists were cool! Sorry to hear about your knee - sending you some pixiedust: Hope your chiro is able to sort things out! Keep us posted! And safe travels to Ken! Hope he's feeling better too :)

Dave - The concert sounds fun and yum to the fresh ice cream!! Didn't realize you had such a big yard! Mowing the lawn sounds like a workout especially with a push mower.

Eva - I always wondered about having kids and the weight gain. That was something that I was always worried about. I know some of my friends have had a tough time taking it off - of course I'm not sure how hard they're trying. That is awesome that you've reached your goal weight within a year! Sorry to hear you lost the challenge - there's a "trick" that fitness competitors do before shows to lean out a little more. It involves a crazy amount of water - if you're interested, I'll ask my chiro about it. I don't know that much about it. Thanks for the tough comment  I think I have a lot of stress that I'm working though LOL

Mike - Love the medals you posted on FB! Congrats on your races! Can't wait to hear the RRs!

AFM - I had a bit of a relaxing do nothing weekend myself. I finished up most of my errands on Friday night so that I could relax on Saturday and Sunday. I worked out at the gym Saturday morning for about an hour - a bit of TM running, bike and weights. Sunday I got a massage - my old MT had quit and I didn't know :( The new guy was pretty good - he did a theraputic massage and used A LOT of pressure! Ouch! He did a bit of a double take at my giant bruise, which is now almost my entire kneecap. But overall it was a good massage. He brought his own iPod which had a lot of songs I liked on it. He even had a Stevie B song on it and I blurted out "Hey I haven't heard that since..." Oh great, now he knows how old I am

Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

Hi team!! :)

Saylan ~ Hope you're feeling better. Yes, rest days ARE good even when you're not sick. It's in the resting that our bodies can get stronger. :)

Lynn ~ Hope your weather calms down! We're supposed to be getting back to more seasonable temps this week...though it comes with rain. Fun.

Mike ~ SOOOOOOO jealous of your race!!!!!

Eva ~ Bummer on the weight loss challenge! I hate it when the scale doesn't move no matter what I do.

AFM ~ I spent Saturday being cheer-er, photographer, and effectively team manager holding onto the bibs and numbers for our guys whose van had a blow-out (we're really lucky none of them were hurt or worse) while our team ran a 30K either individually or in a relay format. It was a cute little town called Wurtsboro. Then we had pasta at another teammate's house Saturday night.

I'd meant to go and run the course of the race on Sunday backwards to cheer people on, but woke up feeling nauseous (I hate being a girl sometimes...and this was one of those times), so I ended up just going to Trader Joe's and doing laundry.

Today I'm back to running! Whee!!! Recovery week of do what I want is over.

OOH! And I'm getting a bike! For free! It's old and maybe a tad short for me, but one of my teammates has gotten a tri bike and is getting rid of her old mountain bike for free. I've been thinking I might want a bike...but I don't want to invest the $$ in it until I know for sure I do. So this is the perfect arrangement! I can try it out on a less-than-perfect one to see if I'll really use it enough to justify buying one.

Hope all are well!!

~beth

Lynn: Thanks. I am feeling better today. I swear though, if one more person asks me if I'm pregnant, I'm going to lose my mind. :lmao:

I think I'd take wind over snow/rain. Rain by itself is fine but with snow, ugh! I hope it clears up soon.

Vicky: Yep, I love those weekends. My boyfriend pointed out that I hadn't seen the sun since Thursday till I left today. :rotfl: That's rare for me. I ended up sleeping away almost all of Friday, and for the first time, my cat (who hates all women) slept with me. It was so nice that we got to bond. My old cat (from childhood to mid-20s) used to do that when I was sick but this one isn't like that.

I'm jealous of your massage! I've always wanted to try going to one but I'm terrified! Glad your weekend went as slow and calming as mine.

I forgot my watch this morning so my 4 mile training walk was untimed. Even untimed though I felt like I got in a zone I haven't been in for a long while. I'm starting to feel like I just might be able to get back to some sort of racing shape if I stay focused and don't get hurt again.

Have an awesome monday.

Dave:hippie:

Good Morning Team!

Vicky - The snow melts every day, then it has been snowing again at night, woke up to 1-2 inches this morning, it will again be melted by afternoon! Glad you had a relaxing weekend!

Saylan - Glad to hear you are feeling better!

Beth - I was kind of surprised this morning, I actually noticed the “normal” temps for this time of year are actually the cool temps we have been having, I guess the nice warmer temps we get tempted with are not “seasonal”. Have fun with the new bike!

Dave - Sounds like a good training walk!

AFM - When the snow melted, got out for a dog walk, then 50 min of Pilates and 30 min of weights - today will be bike day - on the exercise bike - too cold to take street bike out side!

Pixie dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day team!
