A new month! Where did that come from? March seems to have snuck up! Both Kim and I registered for a 10 miler in August! I'm excited to have a second race to add :) Anyone else have any new races to add to the calendar? And I thought I'd check in and see how everyone is doing with the goals they posted back on the January thread?

Okay, let's make it a great month team! :thumbsup2

:simba: Hakuna Matata Team Bios :simba:

Verticalchaos, aka Beth- I'm 39 and live in NYC. I teach students with autism. I'm a fairly new runner - started with the Couch to 5K program at te end of June. So far I've run 2 5Ks and a 10K - and I'm training for the WDW Half in January and the DL Half in September. And I may throw another Half in there somewhere. I've been actively working on losing weight since May and am down 19 pounds and at my lowest weight in over 10 years. No kids...just one very bratty and noisy Quaker Parrot named Benjamin Coffin the Bird (Benny for short).

Windwalker, aka Dave aka Panda- I'm 58 and live in a small town in Kentucky. I don't run I walk, race walk actually. I have qualified for another shot at the National Senior Olympics. Married to Sally.

es45 aka Elizabeth- I'm 42 and married with 2 young daughters. I ran my first 13.1 in the 2011 Princess Half.

Pudge The Fish, aka Emily- My DH and I will be doing the DL half in Sept. This will be our first half marathon. I still consider myself new to running, though I've done 2 5k (including the 2009 DL 5k) and one 10k.

Villians_Rock, aka Eva – I am 31 years old, married to Jordan (proud WISH supporter) and have just recently had our first baby, Gage. We currently live near Cleveland, OH. I'm a full time staffing coordinator for Continental Airlines and my hubby sells Harley Davidsons. I ran my first race in 2007 and have since ran 5Ks, 10Ks, one half marathon and completed the Disney Full Marathon in 2009. Before the baby, I was most comfortable running and training at a half marathon distance.

GirltheGecko aka Hope- I grew up in the Pittsburgh area. When I was a teenager, I was heavily into martial arts, unfortunately due to school and time, I had to quit. I met Nick, moved to NH, and I gained some weight. I watched my mother struggle with obesity all her life, so Nick's family and I decided to work at trying for a half marathon at WDW.

flipflopmom, aka Taryn – I will be 35 on Sept. 5. I am a Kindergarten Teacher, working on my master's degree in my "spare” time. Married for 12 years, have 2 girls. Oldest is 10, and a competitive gymnast. Her gym is 45 minutes away, so I spend a lot of time on the road. Youngest is 3, and a tons of fun! I haven't run a race yet, but looking for a 5K.

LynnG, aka Lynn, (of Lynn and Scott)- 60 years old, retired, we are both Disneyholics. We have been members of DVC since it started. I am a walker, I used to try to run, but knee surgery last August which I am still trying to recover from, I only walk now. I have done several half marathons, mostly Disney ones. I have 2 malamutes that are my walking companions at home.

MaryJ aka Mary- I am 53 years old, and live in a small town in Southwestern Indiana. I will be married to DH (Ken) for 34 years in July. We have 3 daughters and 2 granddaughters. I walk/run my races. I did my first big race (WDW Half) when I was 52. Before that I had done only a few 5K's, mostly walking.

Motomiker, aka Mike – I have lived in and around Lake in the Hills Illinois. I have worked in the grocery business for almost 20 years. Married in 2008 to my wife (Liz). One son (Robert), working on baby number two. I was diagnosed with colon cancer in the fall of 2009 and had surgery. I am still cancer free! My other interests are varied: Disney nut, Disney pins collector, love movies (mostly Sci-fi), scrapbooking, travel, a New England Patriots fan, and 5ks . I did my first adventure race recently, and am planning some more.

Nikkilala, aka Nikki- Married to Ryan at WDW in 2007. Currently a Physical Therapist Assistant student graduating in 2012. Is a wogger (walker with a little jogging mixed in) Lives in South West Michigan where she was born and raised! Loves Disney and will do anything for an excuse to travel there, including a half marathon

Saylan – I'm from the frosty north of Canada. I'm very new to running (officially started October 14, 2010). I'm training for the Disney Princess 1/2 and it'll be my first official marathon of any length. I'm a Disney addict (been 16 times). I figured if anything can motivate me to run it would be Disney. I live with my partner (and Disney virgin) and a demon of a cat.

piglet24, aka Regina- I grew up in Idaho and married my “birthday buddy”, Kyle, in 2006. There has been a great deal of stress in my life recently that I do not have the ability to change right now, so I decided to try running to help manage the stress and give myself goals to work toward and focus on. Right now I’m working toward my first half marathon in October (Wine and Dine).

DisneyGerry, aka Gerry - Lives in Celebration, FL, transplant from MD after numerous vacations to visit central FLA. Trying to kick up my race schedule this year starting with the Disney Half in January. Play and work in the theme park corridor

Good Morning Team! I found the March thread!

Vicky - If you want to add bike rides to the race calendar (I understand that they are not really “races” but rides), Scott and I are doing the Front Runner Metric Century in Salt Lake City on April 9th. It is a 62 mile bike ride from SLC to Ogden, where we will get dinner, then get a train ride back to SLC while the bikes are packaged and trucked back.

Elizabeth - Congrats on your first half marathon!

Gerry - Pixie Dust for a swift recovery from surgery!

AFM - It was a beautiful day out yesterday, and the dogs and I went 3 miles (our regular walk is 1.27 miles), it felt good (but the knee is a bit more sore this morning). I also got some weight work in yesterday. Today will also be nice, the snow starts again tonight and into the weekend. I might take the bike outside today if the wind stays calm.

Pixie dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day team!

Hey team!!

Gerry ~ Heal soon!!!

Lynn ~ Sounds like you had a great day yesterday! I can sympathize on the knee (more on that in a sec)!

Vicky ~ I'll go back to the thread and see what I posted. LOL. I feel like I'm doing ok, but I don't remember everything I wrote down.:lmao:

AFM ~ After the UGLY race on Saturday, I had a GREAT run at the gym on Monday - worked inclines from 2-6 during it. Things seemed to be fine. Until about 24 hours later when I noticed my left knee felt weird. No pain - it didn't and doesn't hurt. But it felt stiff and looked a little puffy. I talked with our PT and gym teacher at school, and their consensus was that I probably irritated something and so fluid is there, but it probably isn't an injury as it doesn't hurt! So I'm NOT going to running club tonight but hanging at home and RICE-ing it. I'm due for a 2-hour run on Saturday and then Coogan's on Sunday...we'll see what happens. At this point I'm feeling woefully undertrained for the NYC Half...but we'll see what happens. I *think* if necessary I can walk at a 13:45mm pace...but I'd rather do more than walk another race. And in possibly the stupidest running injury EVER, I torqued my mid-back while pulling on my compression tights for the race on Saturday. I'm clearly special. :rotfl2:

Hope all are well!

~beth

Hi team! Thought I'd better give us a bump back up to the top of the page!

Gerry - Not sure about the t-shirts you mentioned. There's a company that makes running shirts with funny sayings on them. I see them at most race expos but am not sure of their name. pixiedust: for your surgery. I hope it's all very uneventful. Will put your bio up later tonight.

Beth - pixiedust: for your knee! I've thrown out my back doing weird things - brushing my teeth or giving myself a pedi. It's all about making up a cool story ;) Sorry to hear about the race - was it the weather? Remember you just got back from Italy so there was probably some jet lag involved.

Lynn - I think we're trading weather systems. It's really cold right now but suppose to warm up on the weekend... then cool back down again. Go figure! But March weather is pretty crazy anyway. Will add you and Scott to the calendar tonight! You know, maybe I'll call our calendar an event calendar and then we can add whatever we want to it. It's not a running race but I still think it's a race nonetheless :) Is the train ride included in the entry fee?

Kim - Nice list of races! The mud run sounds cool! Where is that?

AFM - I went running last night for the first time in months! It's been so long that my D-Tag from January was still on my shoe  I ran on the TM and went slowly, did 2:1 run/walk intervals for 36 minutes at a slow pace. I probably should have only done half of that but was really excited to be running again. Anyway, my legs were a little fatigued afterward but the ankle seemed be doing well. I'll give it another shot on Saturday and then hopefully move back outdoors in a couple of weeks.

Hope everyone is doing well :wave2:

Good Morning Team!

Beth - take care of your knee!

AFM - It was another beautiful day here yesterday (high 55, wind 10 -15 mph), I got outside for a 10 mile bike ride and a short (1.27) dog walk. Weather will be getting worse, rain or snow expected later today, will try to get out early before it gets bad. It will be back in the 20's by next week (but hopefully only for 1 day).

Pixie Dust to all who are in need!

Have a great ay team!

Hi, everyone,

Here is my quick race report.

I arrived at WDW with my BFF last Thursday. My friend hated Disney and so it took a lot (2-day ticket to EPCOT) to get her there. We stayed at All-Star Sports, a first for me. It was so much fun and the place was full of race participants. We had beautiful weather for the entire stay.

We went to the expo on Friday morning where I met Jeff Galloway. What a great guy! He recommended that I slow my pace since I had not yet run 10 miles. Saturday morning was spent at EPCOT.

Galloway was right :thumbsup2 I had more energy at mile 8 on race day than I did when I ran 3 miles a few days before. I had some problems with my shins at mile 10 and 11 but the hill work at that point of the course helped me work that out. My friend and I finished the race at 3:28 with huge smiles on our faces. To keep active we strolled around EPCOT's World Showcase Sunday evening, proudly wearing our medals.

I can't wait to do it again! Oh, and on Monday's return flight my friend kept saying, "I love Disney..."

So who is up for the Wine and Dine?

Vcky can't think of the name of the conservation area but it is at 427 and Steeles. We are doing the 3 person relay with Kevin should be a blast.

:cheer2: Weekend Racers :cheer2:

Good luck Beth :thumbsup2 Have a fantastic race! Hope the weather cooperates for you on Sunday!

March
6 - NYRR Coogans Salsa, Blues and Shamrocks 5K - Beth

Good Morning Team!

Vicky - Yes, the train ride is part of the registration fee on the bike ride (the food is extra, but very reasonable). Good luck with your weekend running!

Beth - Have a great race on Sunday!

Elizabeth - Glad to see you made another convert to Disney!

AFM - Got out for a dog walk and then did a Pilates tape, some weights and 30 min on the spin bike. There are some snow showers this morning - not enough to accumulate - but is supposed to be clearer this afternoon, so will try for then for our walk. The big storm is coming in next week, weekend does not look too bad.

Pixie dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day team!

Vicky...You can take my race on the 19th of this month off the calendar. Ken and I are going out to Denver to visit our daughter. It works out well for her schedule as that is during her spring break. On the 20th we will be flying from Denver to Las Vegas to take in the Construction Expo. So, any workouts I'll be doing will most likely be in the hotel gym. Glad to hear you're back out running. Hope the ankle doesn't give you any trouble.

Beth...Hope your knee holds out on Sunday!

Rainy and just all together yucky here this weekend. We have a friend visiting until late tomorrow afternoon, so may not get any real exercise until Sunday. Hope everyone has an enjoyable weekend!

Hi guys! Sorry I've been MIA - it's been a weird week.

Mary ~ Have fun with your friend!
Lynn ~ Sounds like a great workout day so far! Hope you can get out for that walk!
Elizabeth ~ Sounds like you had a great Princess! Yay!!!! I'm most likely in for the Wine and Dine...not signed up yet...but most likely will be doing it.

Thanks for the good luck wishes for tomorrow. I've already heard it's a hilly course...but a "screaming downhill finish" so we'll see. Right now it's 40% rain chance at race time, so we may well be wet. Oh joy!

The good news is the knee isn't swollen anymore - and when my chiro looked at it (after fussing at me about not telling them up front - though in my defense, I didn't realize chiros did other joints too...I thought they just did backs) and manipulated it, he said either my pain tolerance is crazy high (in which case he said we needed to up the charge on the pads during what I call my back ECT, which, nope!!) or it's pretty likely nothing's torn, I just irritated something. I'm still icing to make sure. And I have an appointment at NY Sports Med on Thursday - I'll work with a PT and also be examined (though perhaps not Thursday as the doc isn't at the Union Square location on Thursdays usually) by their medical director and get to the bottom of it. I figure even if it's still behaving, it can't hurt to go ahead and get in with a recommended practice. Because eventually I really will need them. :P

Since my knee seemed to be fine, I decided to hit Prospect Park for a run - it's cloer to home than Central Park, and I've got multiple bail-out points jsut in case where I can hit *a* subway, even if it's not my preferred one, it will get me to a preferred one. And YAY!!!! I had a really good run! Ended up doing 6.83 miles, which was 2 loops of Prospect Park plus the entrance and part of the exit. I promised myself that if I needed to bail I would, but honestly I didn't really have to have that discussion. I did "call it" about 10 minutes early just because I didn't want to go PAST my exit points and have to walk further than my regular cool down to get to them. The knees felt really good and didn't bother me. I'm icing the right one now just to be safe, but it really wasn't significantly if at all swollen. So Yay!!!! I'm just going to have a nice afternoon in, chilling, lesson planning, and listening to NPR. And of course checking in on here! Hee!

Hope everyone's having a good day!!

~beth
