Hakuna Matada - Dashing through December!

Rick and Mike training together is great. I have 4 guys I have trained and we are all about the same age and we train together on Wednesday and then I do speed work with another on Monday. The bond we have developed is amazing, we are truly brothers. Next year we are going to win our state competitions and then in 2013 we are going as a group to take on the best in the nation. Team Panda will rule!! Records are made to be broken. Grrrrrrrrrr!!! Ok dreaming over. But ya never know, could happen.:rolleyes1

Have an awesome weekend y'all.

Dave:hippie:

Hi Team! Hope everyone had a great weekend.

Rick- Glad your hip is feeling better. It is good to hear you enjoyed your Klingon performance. I enjoyed looking at the photos of you in character. Great job on your 11 mile run. It’s always nice to have good company.

Lynn- Hope you and Scott had safe travels! Have a great time!

Tandy- Well I’m glad your bread turned out pretty good. Hope your studying and run with Harrison went well.

Dave- There is nothing wrong with dreaming!

AFM, I ran 5 miles this morning on the TM. Tomorrow is a 13 mile run and the plan is to go when DH gets home from work. It’s supposed to be sunny, so keeping my fingers crossed for that and very little wind!

Good Morning Team!

Another weekend that flew by.
I'm having problems posting from work so this will be a quickie.

Happy Belated Birthday, Lynn!!

Hope everyone's weekend training went well.

Have a great Monday............Sue

I got to the mall and couldn't figure out what kind of workout to do. I'm tired of having to train inside, so I did my first .8 mile lap and decided I'd do an LSD 12 miler, then on the second lap decided that 8 miles would be enough. Well on the third lap I changed that and decided to start weaving as fast as I could between the islands that are set up in the mall to sell stuff during the Christmas season. Turned out to be a very good 5 miles of weaving like a race car going around the cones.

What sort of cross training is everyone doing?

Dave:hippie:

My cross training this morning consisted of an hour working a weight circuit, mixed in with step-ups, lunges, planks, and an 'ab' workout I don't know the name of. The circuit machines worked triceps, biceps, lats, shoulders, chest, with some hamstring and hip work just for fun.

Man, my trainer really worked me today! About the only muscle I didn't work that hard were the quads. Guess he ran out of time. :rotfl:

Whew! I will be happy to do my EZ Run tomorrow morning!

Rick: Sounds like a really good, hard workout. Good job! Great sounding long run with Mike. Glad you have someone to run with. I am always alone, and while I like that, once in awhile it would be nice to break it up.

Dave: I'm glad your indecision turned out to be a good thing. ;) I mentally play that game almost every time I run. I should run 10, no, 8. I'm tired, I'll just run 4. I feel better, so I'll go ahead and do the 10, etc..... I love the weaving in and out. Classic!
And, as far as breaking records, you really never know.

Sue: Have a good day. :)

Regina: Hope your 13 goes well today. I had 12 planned, and got stuck on the stupid TM.

AFM: As mentioned above, I ran 12 today. I got all set to head out the door, and just couldn't deal with the cold. It was all of 23 degrees with a wind out of the north. While I don't mind it cold most days, I'd already taken the dog out for 3 miles, and just couldn't face it. So, I jumped on the TM, watched Law and Order reruns and finished 12 miles in 1:40:04!!!!! I think I can handle that. I'm almost back to my half marathon pace. My 2 halves were 1:46 and 1:48. I ate real food today in the middle of my run to see how my stomach handled it. I kind of threw up a little, so not good. I guess I'll have to work on that.
Lots of studying still to do today. Oh boy. Big algebra test tomorrow over stuff I don't fully understand. I just need to get a C or so on the test, since the first 4 tests were so high. So, I'm not worried.
Zumba tonight. That's what I do for cross training. It works cardio, but really works the core and all the stabilizing muscles as well as all the adductor and abductor muscles that don't get worked much while running. Then, I'll lift every once in awhile, but I'm so lazy about it. I'm naturally very muscular, and I admit I slack off because of it.
Harrison and I managed to get all the decorations up yesterday. We made a compromise and just got the inside stuff up this year. I just don't have it in me to go climbing on the roof this year. Frank is afraid of heights, so if it's going to get done, I'll be doing it. Harrison was pretty understanding.
I hope everyone has a great day!

Hello!

Rick - Glad you had a great time in the play!

Tandy - There was a mix of outfits at the ballet. Some people in jeans, some in dresses. And of course, the little girls in their holiday dresses who looked adorable. I really enjoyed the Nutcracker and I hope you do too. WTG on your LR! Good luck on your test.

Regina - Hope your long run went well.

AFM - We did a 12.4 mile long run this weekend in 2:39. I felt much better afterward than my previous long run. Unfortunately, my pace is not as fast as I would like it to be.

We decorated our patio with lights this weekend so I now have all the decorations up.

We got some bad news this weekend. We found out that one of DH's cousins passed away unexpectedly. DH is doing ok.

Hope everyone has a good day.

Emily

Hi team! Sorry to be MIA! Hope everyone is having a great week so far!

Emily - Sorry to hear about DH's cousin :( I'll be keeping you guys in my thoughts. Hope he's doing ok. Good job on your 12 miler! Don't worry, your pace will be faster on the day of the race! My training runs are always slower than my race day pace.

Tandy - What a speedy run and on the TM too! I'll bet that you have a 1:40 half in you! What did you eat during your run? The only things I've been able to successfully eat during a run are cookies or pretzel M&M's. But I don't think they last very long. How do you think you'd do with a small PB and jelly sandwich cut into small squares? There is a mess factor but I was thinking it'd be easier on the stomach? Speaking of bread... I have a foccacia recipe that one of the chefs at the school gave me. I happened to talk to him one day because his class was leaving as we were going into the lab. I'll have to send it over to you.

Rick - How's your hip doing? I thought of you on my LR Saturday. I saw a police officer checking speed and I suggested that there should be officers checking for drivers rolling through stop signs, intersections etc. I know you don't live in Toronto but it's a problem here sometimes too. I saw your Klingon pics on FB! That was awesome! Did it take a long time to get all the makeup and effects on? And a run in the rain - WTG! How are you feeling about the half in January?

Dave - My cross training is going to the gym twice a week. I usually do a lot of leg work, stretching, upper body, lifting and metabolic exercises.

Sue - We're two weeks away from the week of the 19th! How did that happen? I'm looking forward to lunch!

Lynn/Scott - Safe travels! Will lookout for your FB updates :)

Regina - The Muppet's story line was a little bit silly ... but overall it was cute! It brings back childhood memories :) I still have a whole lot of leftover cookie dough! Costco has an ice cream maker on sale so I might pick one up and make some cookie dough ice cream. The only thing is that the dough has raw egg in it. But I ate some of the dough in class  and nothing happened so I think it should be ok. Any luck with the package?

Elizabeth - How was your LR?

Kim - How's the training going?

AFM - I did my 18 miler on Saturday and survived! It actually felt pretty good. I did 10/1 intervals and went at a slow pace of 12 m/m. I was lucky to get warmish weather and there was a bit of sunshine as well. The only downside was that my fuel belt bottles tasted like dish soap - all of them :crazy2: I still drank the water because I didn't want to dehydrate but I didn't drink very much of it. I'm not sure if it's because I didn't rinse out the bottles or if the soap was just really fragrant.

After my run I did an epsom salt bath which seemed to work better on my right side than my left. Go figure! I felt pretty good the next day except for some knee pain. I skipped my 9 miler to let my knees get some rest. It was raining (I'm not quite as brave as Rick, Mike and Regina) and figured it was just as well.

I kind of wondered about the knee pain and decided I'd better check on my shoe mileage. Turns out I ran almost 100 miles in November  I'm sure you guys have a ton more since I only run twice on the weekdays in addition to the long runs. So I've definitely got to get new shoe(s)!

Last night I was at the gym with my trainer. We did the usual - leg presses, bridges, hamstring curls, squat jumps, frog hops ... etc. After the hour, I ran a 5K on the TM so that I wouldn't have to go out today. It's raining ... so I figure if I didn't do a run last night, it wasn't going to happen today. I managed to do half of the run at 6.5 and felt like I could have gone even faster.

Today will be a rest day of sorts ... I have a dinner to go to and a few errands to run after work.

How is everyone feeling about their training? Be sure to test out your race day clothes. Same with new shoes... It's not that you need to break them in but if they're a new model, you want to make sure they're going to work for you over long distances. Also make sure you've worked out foods you're going to eat before the race and things you'll be eating and drinking on course. You don't want any surprises next month :thumbsup2

Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

Am I the only walker that has to train for competition in a darn mall? It was a super training effort even if I was in the mall, before it opened, to escape the weather. Warmed up with one .8 lap to warm up and then walked 4 miles in 45:48. This was the fastest I've done the 4 miles in the mall and double surprised to do it in my heavy cushioned shoes instead of my racers.

Not sure if everyone saw the post on FB, but here's the link for discounted park tickets in January.

https://disneytickets.disney.go.com/store/602xqx/eventCodeEntry.html

pass: WDW12 (case sensitive)

I'm not sure how many days to get... I'm thinking I'll get 5-6 days with the park hopping option. If anyone knows of better ticket prices, let me know and I'll post the link. I'm going with park tickets instead of an AP for the first time in a long time. There are so many options with the tickets. It's a bit confusing :cutie:

Hi team. I finally decided to bail on today's run, so I don't have much to report. 3 official school days left. I had an algebra test today that was hard. But, at least that's over. Now, just my finals.

I was supposed to run with Harrison today but he begged to run on the TM, and I gave in. It's not like we can run together on there, so I opted out of running all together. I'm supposed to run 5ish tomorrow, so hope I'm more up for it.

Vicky: That's a better price than what I saw on undercovertourist, so seems good to me. Great job on the 18. You're totally going to nail these races. And, yes, any good bread recipes would be wonderful.

Dave: If I didn't have my TM, I would have to find an alternate indoor outlet. But, as long as the old thing holds out, I'm going to use it. Plus, I don't think they would take kindly to me running in there.

Emily: I'm sorry to hear about your husband's cousin. Were they young? Great job on your LR. The pace will come. I'm heard from more than one person that you cannot build mileage and speed at the same time. So, I say stick to mileage. Of course, you could add a speedwork day in there once a week or so, but if you're trying to build lots of mileage, it's nice to just focus on that.

I am still needing to do some HW, so it's off to the desk for me. Have a great one.

Hi Team!

Sue- Hi!

Dave- LOL, having a little trouble deciding how you wanted to train yesterday huh?

Rick- Sounds like your cross training is going well.

Tandy- Yuck to having to run 12 miles on the TM. I know how that is! Congrats on your awesome finishing time! Did you get sick during your run or after? I hope you have better luck with the food situation next time. Glad you got the inside decorated for Christmas. Hang in there! Those 3 official school days will be over before you know it!

Emily- Glad you enjoyed the Nutcracker. Everywhere I have read people seem to say that the training pace is just that, and you will likely be faster on race day. I’m sure you will have a faster time on race day. I’m sorry to hear about DH’s loss. I hope he is still doing ok.

Vicky- I haven’t tried to buy anything else online yet. My motivation is down since the last time I tried. Plus that particular item I wanted to buy was on sale for cyber Monday and so the price isn’t as good now. LOL, if you were fine eating the cookie dough in class I’m sure it would be ok. Great job finishing your 18 miles on Saturday and the faster pace on your 3 mile run! Thanks for the tips on training!

AFM, DH and I ran 13 miles yesterday. It was a beautiful day. The sun was shining and there were no clouds to be found in the sky, which is odd since we live on the coast. It was still pretty windy, but in the areas where it wasn’t as windy, it actually felt warm and nice in the sun. The cool down walk after we finished though was pretty brutal with the cold wind hitting us. Aside from some minor arch pain from landing on my foot wrong running the day before for a short time around what I’m guessing was mile 4, it was a great run. We again did not check how far we had run until about the 2:10 mark, and I think that is working well for me. That way instead of worrying how many miles I have left, I just get to focus on enjoying the run and going 5 minutes at a time. Today is a rest day. Hope everyone is having a great day and doing well.

Ok I'm starting to get scared now! It's less than a month till we will be at WDW for the Goofy challenge, I'm not sick, i'm not injured and I'm reasonably well trained. It's been a while since all these things lined up.

Dave:hippie:

Me too Dave well except for the well trainned but then again I have never been well trainned so why start now;)

4 weeks today I will be at the happiest place on earth.

Sorry gotta run, going to a funeral today. My DSIL's mom passed. It was a bit of a blessing she has been ill for quite some time.

I had a come to Jesus moment today with my training. I hate the cold, with a passion. It was 28 degrees with the chill factor this morning, misting rain and snow flurries. None of my group was there for the training walk. I made a few laps of the tennis courts to warm up and see if anyone else was coming, when no one showed I had a decision to make: Make it a rest day, drive to the mall and train in there again, just do a couple of miles and call it a day or get my Grrrrrrr! on and get training. I made the decision to get it done. I thought about what Nyle said when I asked her what it takes to be the best, "When it's raining and you don't feel like training, you do it anyway". So it boiled down to a simple fact, how much did I want it? So I sucked it up and had a good strong 6 miles. I was walking in a couple of miles of cemeteries, hallowed ground and a good place to reflect on just why I started training and why I had kept it up for so many years. To live a strong healthy life.

Dave:hippie:

Kim - *hug* Hope everything is ok!

Dave - I don't like the cold either! I wish I lived further south. What happened to your training group? How come you were walking at the mall? I've heard that cemetaries have great pathways for running and walking. But tha's a great ah-ha moment you had! WTG on your 6 miler!

Regina - Congrats on your 13 miler! And thank goodness for the warm and sunny weather. I cannot imagine doing some of these longer runs if it was snowing and cold out. I do the same thing on my runs too - I just focus on the time left in the run intervals and try not to think about how far I have left to go. Hope your arch is feeling better today :)

Tandy - Thanks Tandy! I keep reading some of the posts about the Goofy and hitting the wall and it has me feeling slightly nervous. When you did Goofy last year, did you feel like you ever hit the wall? If you did during the full, I couldn't tell :) Good luck on your finals! I'll bet you're looking forward to the Christmas break! I'll find the foccacia recipe, scan it in and email it to you tomorrow.

AFM - Not much happening here. I feel like I should go for a run tonight but it's technically a rest night. I may do some stretching instead. Work is starting to slow down so I think people are taking time off and just getting ready for the holidays. I have to say that it feels a little funny since everything is still green ... fingers crossed for another 2 weeks of green though!

What's on everyone's list for Santa?

Hey Vicky, I got mine though I'm confused about it: 36524

Isn't there only 20-28 thousand racers not counting Goofyers who have their own bibs? :confused3

Dunno. I think in past years they have gone that high. Don't quote me on that though.

I think it all depends on what the organizers use as their starting number. I've seen a few people post their Goofy numbers and they seem to be in 20Ks. Keep watching the numbers that people post, we'll be able to figure out a pattern in a couple of hours I'm sure. Right now it's still early. :goodvibes

I wonder if Goofys are the 2##### and HM is 3##### and Full is 1####?
