Hakuna Matada - Awaiting an Awesome April!

Hello team!

Elizabeth - Congrats to DH! That is fantastic news! What are you guys going to do to celebrate?

Lynn - I saw Scott's FB posting this morning about Hawaii... any luck? I'm keeping my fingers crossed that you'll have good weather for this weekend! Good luck at the vet's today - are your pups usually good with the vacinations?

Beth - Oooh... hated Umbridge in the books big time! She made my skin crawl when she'd make Harry Potter write "lines". Ugh! Good luck with the principal - I hope her visit is short and drama free. I'm trying really hard to keep the eating under control so I can pick up some spring clothing in a couple of weeks.

Dave - Sounds like you and Sally are working hard! Any pics of your new place?

Mike - pixiedust: Hope you're feeling better soon! And extra pixiedust: for Liz! Hope her knee is feeling better :) Yes, I will register for Goofy in a few weeks. The Canadian dollar is doing really well right now so that works out a bit more of a discount as well! Nice pace on your run!

Sue - Any thoughts on January 2012? Haven't seen you for a bit :( Work must be keeping you busy!

Kim - Yay for Saturday! Are you registering for Island Girl then? I saw on the site that you save the online processing fee but you have to pay in cash or cheque (I didn't know people still used cheques  )

AFM - I have a quick workout/training session tonight. I told the trainer that he should keep giving me those kick butt workouts because of all the junk I've been eating. I'm trying to stick to clean eating for this week so when I go home, I have a couple of recipes I'm going to try out. One is for a cashew and dill salad dressing and the other is for a coconut/almond nut butter. If they're good, I'll post them here. And if I have time on the weekend, I'm hoping I can make Scott and Lynn's babotie recipe. Yummy! I haven't had that for a while.

Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

:cheer2: Weekend Racers :cheer2:

Look at all the racers we have this weekend!! Good luck Beth, Mike, Scott & Lynn!!

April
9 - Front Runner Metric Century Bicycle Ride, Salt Lake City, UT - Lynn, Scott
10 - Run the Hills 5K Lake in the Hills, IL - Mike
10 - NYRR Scotland Run 10K - Beth

Good Morning Team!

Good luck to Mike and Beth in their races this weekend!

Vicky - Yes, we did book the Hawaii cruise and the last one from NYC to Canada. Dogs are basically good, the younger one is a real wimp and does not like to have blood taken (I have them tested for heartworm each spring before putting them back on the heartworm medication. Hope you enjoy the babotie recipe!

AFM - We had to bag the trip to Salt Lake City, not only is it snowing in SLC now, and forecast to continue tomorrow, I-80, which we would have to drive to get there, is closed on the West side of the state, so we could not get there if we wanted to. The hotel was very nice and cancelled our room without a penalty, even though it was a late cancellation. If weather is nice here tomorrow, we will do the local cycling club ride instead. Scott is still taking the day off work, and we may head down to Fort Collins to play a little bit.

Pixie dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day team!

For once I didn't need the pixey dust Lynn, but thanks anyway. Nothing hurts except for my poor feet after push mowing my 1.2 acre yard. It was 3 hours of constant pushing the mower so that should be about the equal of a half marathon. Did an hour training walk with Sally this morning before the yard work.

When Sally gets off tonight we are going to wander the furniture stores for a bed to put in our new white guest room. One of the things I would never buy used is a mattress and box springs.

Dave:hippie:

Hey guys...just popping in before I leave work. It's been busy this spring break! Anyhow...I do have a question for you guys... My dad is interested in becoming a WISH member and I was wondering if you guys minded if he joins us in here in Hakuna Matata. I'm not sure how that works now. When I came onboard I was assigned my team by Dave (if I remember correctly). Anywho...my dad used to run marathons back in the 80s and he has been thinking about trying to get back into the swing of things and wants to train this summer to run a half marathon with me in the fall!! He has specifically asked me if he can join WISH with me because he knows how it has helped me! :cool1: Let me know what you guys think. I'll pop in sometime tomorrow..I'll be over there since we are celebrating my moms birthday :cake:

Yes your dad is very welcome to join us on the team. Welcome Eva's daddy!!

Dave:hippie:

Hi team! Hope everyone is having a fantastic weekend so far!

Eva - Of course your dad is welcome to join our team!! The more the merrier :) I don't know how the team assignments are going these days but I have no problems adding people onto our team! Just let me know what his username is and whether he wants to add a bio to the team page ... Happy birthday to your mom!

Mike - Hope you're feeling better soon! Do you think you're still going to race tomorrow?

Dave - That's a big yard! You need some cows and goats to help you with the mowing  I wouldn't be into a used mattress either - with bed bugs, you can never be too sure. I've heard they're a PITA to get rid of!

Lynn - Sorry to hear you had to cancel your race! Enough with the snow and bad weather already! Bring on the sun and warm weather because we're ready! I remember taking my dog to the vet (this was ages ago), he'd get so scared no matter what he was going in for, he'd shake and actually shed on the exam table... kind of like me and needles! I had to change my mind on the babotie. I have a basil plant that's in need of a trim so I'm going to make a pasta and save the babotie for the week or next weekend.

Kim - Great seeing you and Mike again today! You look fantastic! All your hard work is really showing :thumbsup2 I went back to the Island Girl booth after lunch but guess what? They'd already packed up and left! I guess I have to get a grass skirt too! Are there any other races you want me to add to the team calendar for you?

AFM - I got to have lunch with Kim and her DH Mike today! I also registered for a half in September called the Island Girl Half and got a cute goody bag too. It had a giant face powder container, eyeshadows, moisturizer and a few other things.

Got in a run as well this morning. Did a 5K around my neighbourhood - no pain in the knees or ankles! Yay! Cardio wise it was a bit tougher than I thought it would have been so I did intervals instead of continuous running.

That's it for now!

Have a great weekend everyone! :wave2:

Hello team! Hope everyone had a good weekend. We had friends over for dinner last night, so we spent Saturday cleaning. Didn't do much today. We went out for a run but my ankle was bothering me so we walked instead.

Pixie dust for those who need it!

Have a good night,
Emily

Hi team!

Hope everyone had a good weekend and is ready for the week! I just want to get through it, then I'm on break for 11 days! Woohoo!!!

Supposed to do 5:1 x 7 today, but after running 2 days in a row and with my ITB flaring a little, I may take a break and make it a rest day. The race went well yesterday overall. Here's my report:

As the culminating event of Scotland Week in New York City, NYRR puts on the Scotland Run (sponsored by Scotland Tourism or something like that). This was my first time running it.

Bagpipes, lots of kilts...the weather even felt appropriately Scottish being overcast and chilly. It was great! :D

photo-2.jpg

Here I am, all set to go! Well, after I have a subway ride up there!

I got to Central Park way early and chatted with running club teammates before checking my bag and then taking my (literally...I paced it on my Garmin) 1/2 mile hike to my starting "corral". It's in quotes because my number was 11xxx and they only had a roped off area up to 9xxx. But the corral marshalls sent anyone with a brown bib into that one, so it worked out. I think the national anthem was played by bagpipes...but I'm not positive since they were announced several times, and then I never really heard anything I could identify (too soft), and we were off.

Well...it took about 10 minutes before those of us in the back even started moving...it was about 13 minutes before I crossed the start line. We all had a good laugh as the finish was .2 up from the starting line (the main loop in CP being 6 miles), so we were all laughing and saying "WOW! Look at that finish time!!!" as we crossed the area the first time.

I started out strong...and I knew it was too fast, especially with hills coming up. Especially with HARLEM HILL coming up. I tried to slow down, but it didn't work as well as I would have liked. I stayed as strong as I could.

photo-1.jpg

Here I am, I think at one of the inclines, hence the concentration.

Yes, I walked 99% of Harlem Hill, but I ran when I could.

I pushed through, and for a little while felt better...definitely used the downhills to try and work on the pace.

The one little ick thing was that you could see the finish further out than it looked, so it was easy to push too hard too fast. I really felt like I'd lefe everything on the course before the finish, but some of my FRNY teammates were cheering me on as I entered the chute. I was like "I'm dying!" and my friend AJ yelled "No you're not! You're right there! KICK!" so I kicked and left everything I had left in that last little stretch.

The result? A race PR of 1:15:09!

After I grabbed a bagel and a bottle of water and an "oat bar" thing from Scotland that was YUM!!! and headed to church. We were supposed to be shooting a video afterwards, but the sound was all off. One guy who goes to my church (and is definitely odd) was all "So how'd you do?" (I was still in running gear...though I'd taken off my shirt in favor of a different shirt, so I wasn't all sweaty and smelly) and when I said my time he was all "Oh. I think my best 10K was around 45 minutes. You need to get on a treadmill every night until you get your time down." I just gave him a look and said "Actually I'm very happy with my time, thanks." and walked away to a couple of friends who were waiting for me. Guess there are jerks everywhere.

But yeah...I am happy with it. I'd like to even my splits out a little more and teach myself to hold back at the beginning, but it's a learning process and I'm getting there!

Have a great day!!

~beth

I'm off today so time for adventures in the world of doing errands. First thing of course is my training walk, then I have to get a spark plug for the used riding mower we bought yesterday. I do hate touching tools.

Beth you look like your ready to go.

Dave:hippie:

Welcome Eva's dad:thumbsup2

Vicky it was great seeing you Saturday could have sat and chatted all day, but I think the waitress was giving us the evil eye to clear out of the booth.

Not sure what you have fo me as far as races I have so far confirmed

May 29 Ottawa 1/2
June 18 Georgina 5K
August 14 Acura 10M
Sept 25 Island Girl relay with DD
Oct 16 Scotia 1/2
Jan Donald and Relay

So far that is it.

Beth congrats on your PB!!!!!!:flower3:

Good Morning Team!

Vicky - Glad that your knees and ankles were good for your run!

Saylan -

Eva - We would love to see your Dad here!

Beth - Congrats on your PR! Great race review!

Dave - So, I guess the painting went well if you are now furnishing the guest room! Glad to hear you invested in riding mower for your “field”.

Emily - Pixie Dust for your ankle!

Kim - Hi!

AFM - It was fairly nice here over the weekend, on Friday and Sat. we got out for bike rides, 12 miles on Friday, 15 miles on Sat. On Friday, we went down to Ft Collins, CO and picked up Scott a hybrid bike, and fatter tires for my hybrid, now it is really a hybrid instead of a hybrid setup with road bike tires. Sunday was snowing and windy, we did not even go outside! Today is supposed to be nice, will try to get out for another bike ride around the neighborhood, and, of course, get dogs for a walk. Have a dentist appt for this afternoon, so need to get stuff done this morning!

Pixie dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day team!

Elizabeth - Congrats to DH! That is fantastic news! What are you guys going to do to celebrate?

When we told my daughter she said, "Let's do what Aaron Rodgers did. Let's go to Disney World!" I plan to sign up for the Wine and Dine. That should give us some time to save for the trip and for me to improve my running time. It will be a short trip since the girls are in school. No parks, except MNSSHP. My DH is ecstatic that he gets to renew his NC State football tix; that's HIS Disney! ;)

My dad is interested in becoming a WISH member and I was wondering if you guys minded if he joins us in here in Hakuna Matata.
Welcome Eva's dad and belated happy birthday to Eva's mom!

We went out for a run but my ankle was bothering me so we walked instead.
Emily, how is your ankle today?

Beth Great race report (except for the treadmill jerk).

Lyn: I'm obsessed with your ever-changing weather. NC weather is boring compared to Wyoming's!

Hi Team!

Beth~ Great race report and you look fantastic in your pictures!

Eva~ Tell your Dad to join us! We need more guys on the team! I do reserve the right to flirt with you once in awhile. Hope he doesn't mind...:rolleyes1

Dave~ Our yard takes about 2 hours to mow. I know how you feel!

Vicky~ congrats on adding the Island Girl race to your schedule!

AFM~ No race on Sunday it was a bust for me. My new phone automatically loads my events from facebook onto its calendar. The facebook info said the race started at 900 am. It actually started at 800 and I got there at 815! Grrrrr! Double Grrrrr! So, since I was already dressed I went to my usual bikepath and ran a 5k which I finished in 28:52 with a pace of 9:19. I ran another 5 miles today with a pace of 9:59. I struggled on Sunday and felt fine today after the first mile.
Also, spent the day cleaning out my closet and have a ton of clothes to donate along with a bunch of other junk. I found a camera with pictures still on a roll of film and wonder what they are! :confused3 Maybe and exgirlfriend! Hah!
Such is life!
I'm still getting over my sinus/ear infections, so again, grrrrr!

I can't wait til May 6th when I leave for the Everest Challenge. I need a WDW fix! - Mike :cool2:

Hi Team!

I can’t believe I’ve been out of touch for almost a month! Thanks for all the warm moving wishes!

Beth- So what is the “variety show” exactly? Is it a talent show? Congrats on finishing your race this past weekend! I can’t believe that guy was so critical of your time! Enjoy your spring break!

Saylan- Congrats on DBF being added to Disneyland half!!! That’s fantastic!

Emily- I’m glad your trip to Michigan went well. I laughed when I read DBF is not interested in 26.2 miles in a weekend, period. Do you think he’ll ever change his mind? They have a “West Coast Quidditch Tournament”??? That is so awesome!! Did you take pictures? It sounds like it was fun.

Lynn- Reading that you are still seeing snow is definitely making me feel much better about the rain over here! That’s a bummer you and Scott had to cancel your Salt Lake City trip. I saw on Facebook you guys are signed up for the Hawaii cruise right? I’m jealous! It looks like a lot of fun!

Mike- I’m sorry Liz is having knee troubles. What did they say is wrong with it? Are you still working like crazy over there? That is terrible you missed your race last weekend! What a bummer! Haha, I've had cameras where I didn't develop them right away and couldn't remember what they were of when I finally found them again. It's always interesting to get them developed and see what is really there.

Elizabeth- Congrats to DH on his new job!! What will he be doing?

Vicky- How’s the cleaner eating going this month? You got a goody bag for the half in September already? How does that work? Were they good make up products? It sounds like your running is going well and that’s great! Are you all situated from the office move now?

Eva- Welcome to your dad! Did you ever sign up for the Cleveland half?

Dave- I’m glad the tables have turned for you and Sally and you are both doing well. What’s your next home project now that the guest bedroom is no longer pink?

AFM, I have been in our new place 2 weeks now. It took us about a week to find an internet company here. Apparently, we are in such a remote area there is only 1 internet provider! DH got home on 3/18 and we didn’t know where we would be living until 3/23 when they told us government housing was available to us here. We drove up on 3/25, and the drive was very nice and beautiful. Sydney was on her best puppy behavior the entire drive which was awesome and surprising. DH was also able to get a move scheduled so the movers also came in and packed up all our stuff for us on 3/23. If I have to move every so often, I’m so happy that I at least don’t have to pack it all myself. I had 80% of our boxes unpacked the first week and now I’m down to the very last box. It’s mainly camping gear. I still have a few random items scattered in the office and on the dining table, but otherwise all our stuff seems to have found a place. When the guy showed us the apartment, our front door had no doorknob on it. It took them several days to get one put on and another few days to actually get on that had a key lock in it. Honestly, I miss my house, but it’s been an interesting adventure. They said they may have to move us out in 6 months to remodel the buildings (which they most definitely need!). I’m really not looking forward to moving all of our junk again, but we’ll see how it goes. Now that we’re getting settled in, I’m going to be more active in looking for a job and getting to know the area a little better. I think that’s pretty much it in a nutshell.

I hadn’t run in 2 weeks before Saturday. Saturday marked the start of DH and my return to running. I went slowly and did a lot of walking as I am still feeling pain in my left shin. I’m going to take it slowly and build the running slowly and see how it goes. Last weekend we went to the Eugene running store and I got some compression socks and new running shoes. We had to drive 2.5 hours to get there but it was a nice area, and I’ve got my running necessities so it was worth it. I’m still undecided on the Seattle half. Sigh, if only my shin would get on the same page as my brain!

I hope everyone had a great Monday!

Hi team!!

Thanks for the kind words about my race! :D

piglet24 (sorry ~ can't recall your real name right now...:headache:) ~ Yeah, the variety show was like a talent show. It was a fundraiser for our coaching fund since we're paying our coaches a little bit now. It was a lot of fun. Good luck as you continue to settle into your new house and back into a running routine!

Mike ~ Ouch on the race! I had the opposite issue on Sunday. I had it in my head as 8am, so even looking in the morning and seeing 9am, I was way early. Hope all the illness clears soon!

Elizabeth ~ Woohoo to the job and celebrations! :D

Lynn ~ Hope the bike rides went well!

Kim ~ Cool race schedule!!

Emily ~ Hope the ankle feels better soon!

Vicky ~ Woohoo on the race registration! You'll rock it!!

Eva ~ Hi! Sure your dad can join us!

Saylan ~ Yay for getting into DL!

Dave ~ Hi! :goodvibes

Me ~ I'm going to try and do my XT dvd this afternoon. It's largely upper body, so that shouldn't bother the ITB as much. It's not exactly ouchy, just kind of...there today. School shouldn't be that bad...we're having a puppet show in the morning, so that will take up that time.

Oh, and lord help me... I got talked into doing a Spartan Sprint (thankfully just the little 3-mile-ish version) with a group from running club in June. I guess I need to add "jumping practice" into my routine so I don't end up with burns from jumping fire. OY! (They have it on two days...right now the team is leaning towards the June 4 date, but I'll let you know once I know for sure.)

Have a great day all!

~beth

Good Morning Team!

Beth - Enjoy Spring Break! (That is coming up soon, right?) Take care of the ITB! Adn definitely practice jumping fire!!!!!

Regina - Yes, we are booked on the Hawaii Cruise. Glad to hear your move went smoothly! Good luck with the running!

Mike - Sorry you missed your race. Have fun at the Everest Challenge! Are you getting the film developed?

Elizabeth - Our spring weather does this every year! Yesterday and today are sunny, high about 60, starting tomorrow, more snow in forecast, high of 40’s on Wed/Thurs - warming up again into the 50-60’s for the weekend!

AFM - Nice day yesterday, but I spent most of it running errands. Scott and I took bikes out when he got home (gotta love the longer days!) and put on 10 miles around the house. Then I took dogs for short walk before dinner. Today I am planning a longer walk with dogs, and will maybe take bike out again. Will have to get that in early, as it will start raining later this afternoon. If the rain holds off, I will take Scott’s bike into his office so he can ride home.

Pixie dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day team!

Hi Team!

Lynn- I can’t remember- do you have any bike races you’re planning? I hope the dogs enjoyed their walk if you were able to make it out before the rain started. Are you using DVC points for the Hawaii Cruise?

Beth- A Spartan sprint sounds like fun!

AFM, DH and I went for a run yesterday. There is a bridge we have to cross and as we were crossing the bridge, DH pointed out 2-3 sea lions at the surface of the water. We hear them all the time from our apartment, but I was so busy focusing on my running, it didn’t occur to me to look in the water. It was very cool! Aside from the nice scenery, the run went pretty well. I really like my compression socks and my shin did ok, so no complaints there.

Does anyone know anything about the RunDisney announcement this month about a 4th race?

DH and DS are considering our local Spartan race...think it might be a bit too physical for me at this weight but they look so cool.
