My husband wants our son (13 years old) to go to his barbers for his haircuts from now on but I think he should keep going to my hairdressers because she knows how to do it properly.

Who's right here because we've had a argument about it? What do your teen son's do?

We live in the UK if that makes a difference

My son has never been to a hair dresser. I would think it makes no difference since both are trained and licensed to cut hair.

Is your salon a “girly” kind of place? If so, a teen boy might feel uncomfortable going there anymore.

If he’s OK with still going there, no reason to switch just because Dad thinks it’s time for a change.

Both my boys go to the hairdresser my wife uses. They're both pretty picky about how their hair looks and the one time I took them to the local chain haircut place, they hated the way they cut their hair.

What does your son want?
This is the correct answer.

My sons started at a kid's salon for first haircuts and later ones for a couple of years. Then we started taking them to the same barber that my husband was using at the time. They've switched barbers a couple of times in the intervening years.

Our boys have always gone to the barber.

At 13, I think he should try the barber, bet he won't go back.

My boys have always gone to a barber. They’re 11 and 13 now, but have gone to a barber all along.

I have always cut my teen boys hair. I'm really good at it, and it's free so I have no advice. I'd say let your son decide. FWIW, at least here in America, there really aren't "barbers" much anymore. There are chain places that cater to men, but most are staffed by female stylists. My own stylist is a very straight, married with kids, dirt bike riding guy. And he's amazing. He doesn't have many male clients, though. At the end of the day, you just have to find someone who can cut your hair the way you like it. The setting doesn't matter. I cut my husband's hair weekly for 20 years until he decided to shave it due to thinning hair. He actually hated how barber shops would cut his hair. He preferred when I did it.

There's still barber shops in America lol.

My son hasn't said he feels uncomfortable or doesn't want to go the salon anymore. My husband has just randomly decided it's time for a change!!

My son's hair is slightly longer than most boys hair so that's also another reason why I think My hairdresser should keep on doing it

If he's never been to a barber, at least let him try it. My son switched to a barber in university, and he loves it. He said he and his friend are now firm believers in every man having a good barber lol.
