Hair Wrap Questions

When we were at WDW last, my DD5 spotted the hair wrap booths. We didn't get a hair wrap at the time but she has been asking to get one done when we go next week.
We originally told her she could get one but after thinking about it a little bit more, I'm concerned about the potential hair damage. My DD5 has thin, fine hair.
Does anybody have experience with the hair wraps? How long do you leave it in the hair? Is it hard to take out? Is the hair significantly damaged?

Any insight on the subject would be helpful!!

A hair wrap left in for any amount of time is going to break the hir inside it. The longer it stays in, the more damaged the hiar is. The good news is that it is only a small amount of hair effected. if you are concerned about it I would suggst having it done in the uderside of the hair rather than on top. it is less visible, but so s the damage when you take it out.

We've never gotten one at Disney, as we go during the school year and it's against our school's uniform code. However, my dd gets her done every summer at our beach resort, usually late June or Early July. She keeps it in until the week before school starts and has never had any hair damage at all. I was totally surprised by this the first year, as she had the thing done after a full day in the water with sand in her hair!! I just cut the knot out of the bottom and the string just unravels. Usually I take it out and then get her hair trimmed the same day. Never any problems and her wrap is usually 12 to 14 inches long ( we pay by the inch ).

dd got oen when were were at sesame place last summer rite before she turned three. i dont think there was any hari damage with hers. she was great sittign for it and loved it. my only problem with it was when it was growing out and the hair in it started to pull out or fall out of her scalp, it obviously stayed in the top peakign out from the wrap. didnt look to pretty btu she refused to let me take it out. i have no idea how i eventualyl got it out of her hair! when her hair was free of it there wasnt any damage and it was jsut a bit wavy. came out the next hair washing. oh and she had no bald spots left behind after all that hair fell/twisted/pulled out!

DS gets one on every trip. He does have very thick hair so your DDs fine hair may respond differently. He has never had any damamge. He got a wrap in late September of 2008 which just finally came out about 3 weeks ago (it never started to unravel on its own and he really wanted to keep it--finally that bottom knot gave way ). I absolutely expected the hair to be a completly mess and to have to cut that piece out, but since his hair is so thick it would be easy to hide, so I let him keep the wrap. Amazingly it was in fine condition. I put a little conditioner in it and combed it out and you would never know it had been there (well, I did have ti trim about 2 inches off of it to make it the same length as the rest of his hair as he had had hair cuts in the meantime--but no damage). That was one heck of a good hair wrap
Twice now we have gotten the wraps done first thing in the morning (as in within a half hour of rope drop). Both times we stopped and did it then because there was a small sign advertising an early bird special of half off. I do not know if they still do this but it is worth looking for--paying by the inch is pricey even on my guy's shorter hair.

Looks we're going to do the hair wrap!! I'm glad that I won't have to tell my DD that I changed my mind and she can't get it done!!

My DD5 had it done last year and they took a small bunch of hair underneath. She wore it for about 2.5 months and you could see the hair growing out. I ended up cutting the wrap out of her hair rather than unravelling it. I talked to the hairdresser before doing it and she said it's a small amount of hair and would be easier.

No complains afterwards, either.

My daughter got one in the little cabana next to the pool at POP. She left hers in until school started about 2 monthes later and we just snipped a piece of the thread with a little pair of nail clippers and it unravled right out. No hair damage at all. The only thing we noticed was that the hair inside was darker than the rest of her hair, which apparently had been lightened slightly by the summer sun!

Is there only certain resorts that have the hair wraps or can you find them anywhere? I bet my soon to be 7 yr old would love it this trip. And we will have our 18 niece with us too. Just want to make sure we don't miss it. And about how much average costs? Thanks!!

My DD got it outside the Pirates of the Carribbean at MK.
It's pricey, though. You pay so much per strand. I think we spent about $25.

My daughter got a hair wrap and after about a month the whole clump of hair fell out and left a bald spot on top of her head. She was so embarrassed. I recommend getting underneath the hair behind the ear so if that happens there isn't a bald spot showing!

on two of my trips i got it doen by the girls rite by the muppets fountain- i think thats rite outside planet pizza or pizza planet. the last trip i got mine done at the allstars movie resort so chances are its offered at most if not all. oh and if youre stayign off disney resort they offer it in old town as well for a fraction of hte cost i believe.

We have had a couple and never had any problems but I am kinda laid back when it comes to hair and hair cuts. My philosophy is that it is only hair and will grow back. If you are really concerned just make sure that they don't use a strand right on top of her head. There is also another option, instead of havinf a wrap done just buy a clip on. We had several of them in different color combinations that we could switch out to match the outfits.

I think my DD has had about three hair wraps done and she still has them all. We never unravelled any of them and they all lasted a long time. Eventually as the hair grew out and she got tired of them, we'd just snip off the piece of hair. They only use a few strands so it wasn't really noticeable.

She would get one every trip if they weren't so darn expensive!

You are one hundred percent right not to do it!!! We let DD do this and it broke all the hair in the wrap off. As I tried to unwrap it after a few weeks the hair just came off in my hand. She had this nice little hole of missing hair right on top. I found out later that it is not a good idea for young children because their hair isn't strong enough and it will break it every time. Wait until she is at least a tweener before you let her do it. If you are going again and she want something do what we did originally which was to by the pre-made ones with the clip on them and just clip it on her head.
