I was planning to take my hair straighteners with me, with an adaptor.

But Ive since been told that they dont work over there, and if they do, because of the humidity it makes no difference after half an hour anyway!!

So this is my problem/panic!!!............

On my wedding day out there, I have booked (via Virgin) to have the hair stylist come to our hotel to do my hair. I just want it completely straight, nothing fancy. I have just a simple tiara to sit on top.

I thought this wouldnt be a problem if I got a professional in - but if it falls out within half an hour - what a mess!!!!!

Can someone please help/advise!

Hi Lorraine

I have heard that straightners work OK over there (haven't tried mine yet :) ). Have you considered buying a pair in Walmart??

Hi Lorraine,

I would imagine that your straightners would work over there with an adaptor, though they may not work on "full power" because the voltage is lower (or something like that!!!) If the lady doing your hair is a professional hairdresser then she would surely have her own? If the worse comes to the worse, I agree with Kaylee that you could buy a pair over there

As for humidity, I am sure by the time you go the worst of the humidity will have passed. We went mid September last year and the humidity was fine and if I am looking at your counter properly, you are going later than that.

Please don't worry too much, I am sure you will be beautiful to your husband to be no matter what.

Kaylee - I did think of buying a pair in Walmart, but its not the fact of whether or not I can get mine to work thats bothering me - its the worry of my hair frizzing up/going wavy on my wedding day!!!

Do you think the hairdresser will understand this, and bring different lotions/sprays to keep it all under control?

You got married in Orlando didnt you? Did you have a hairdresser come to your room?

I just panic when I cant plan everything to the last detail - at least getting married in the UK you can meet with your hairdresser a couple of times beforehand to go through styles etc!!

Im just panicing!!! I know exactly how I want my hair to look on my wedding day - but whether or not I get the look I want now is another matter!!

Sorry I thought your question was on Hair Straightners!

Yes Disney Cosmetology came to my room to do my hair. I had an up-do with curls on the top, she did exactly as I asked :)

I first took straighteners with me in 2002 and they worked fine. When I took them to New York in January, they wouldn't heat up at all (same ghd straighteners  ), so I ended up buying a pair from Redken on Fifth Avenue for $280 ( ).

I think the humidity problem depends on your hair. It doesn't affect mine at all once it's straightened, but my two daughters do have a problem and they usually give up after the first couple of days.

Hi

My hair is terrible in humidity it goes curly after a while.

The hair dresser should put on anti frizz serum (bring some over just incase) and when straight she should put on some hair spray.

I heard that the key is to not handle your hair once it is done. Your oil on your hands makes it frizz. So try and bring a big brush and some hair spray for later on once the ceremony has taken place then you can sort it out later on in the rest rooms. Just incase it starts to get a little frizzy.

I am sure you will be fine. Also the hair straigtners will be fine. It just took 20 mins to heat mine up out there. Or you could buy a gas cartridge one that folds up or something it can easily fit into your bag. Try it first from Argos I am sure they sell them. They have a 16 day money return. If they do work you can always pack them aswell.

Good luck,

Michelle

I have always found the high humidity throughout the year a problem with my hair, which isn't curly but has a life of it's own. I don't bother to style it therefore and just put it up in a clip.

I can understand you have a style in mind but you need to decide if you're prepared for it to go a bit wild or would you prefer to try something different. Of course your hair may be ok, but then again it may not. Difficult isn't it?

Are you there long enough in advance of your wedding to have a trial run with the stylist? Then you could discuss it all with her and "try before you buy"

Hope it works out for you and that you have a wonderful wedding and honeymoon.

Gill

hi

im not taking my straighteners basically because i dont want to be faffiing on.

if you are having a professional stylist she will use good products that will maintain the straightness of your hair. its not like when we do it at home and stick a bit of wax or flattening balm on. im sure they will be able to ply you with product and get a result that doesnt look like you have the whole tub on your head. my hair is so thick and wavey i use ghd straightening irons and tigi straight talk flattening balm and at a hint of dampness i have an afro on my head so i know how your feeling.

love

lucy

ps have a fab time and let us know how the hair holds up

I was actually going to post a thread regarding hair straighteners when I spotted this one :D

I wanted to take my straighteners too however Im not sure if its worth it after reading some of this thread  Humidity is a nightmare for my hair too  think it may just be easier to tie it up and wear a hat :confused3

However I do plan to have a lovely evening out and dress up would like to have my hair straight for that. ::yes:: Are straighteners expensive in the US if I decided to purchase ones over there? Would they work over here too?

thanks

Karon

Karon - see Deb's post above - her's cost $280.

Personally I don't really worry too much about what I look like in WDW - (I love my baseball cap :)) as I'm too busy enjoying myself to worry about make - up / hair etc.

But - the whole point of this thread was for Lorraine to make sure she looked beautiful on her wedding day:bride: :groom: which I'm sure we can all understand fully :)

Lorraine - can you give your hairdresser a call and ask her to set your mind at rest? I would have thought (though what do I know, I'm not a hairdresser LOL) that Floridian hairdressers would be well used to giving people exactlky what they want on their big day - they must be used to coping with the humidity.

Have you asked on the weddings board Lorraine? I bet someone there could help :) princess:

Best wishes,

Karen

Thanks everyone for the replies.

I dont have time for a trial run. Im meeting the Virgin Wedding Co-ordinator the day before the wedding, so presumably I wont meet the hairdresser until the Big Day!

I do know that when I have my hair professionally straightened over here, the style lasts for about 4 days. Im having it done the day we fly out (which will be a Saturday) and the wedding is on the Wednesday, so it will definitely need doing.

Karen - baseball cap instead of my tiara is sounding more appealling!!!

Im sure the hairdresser is used to straightening hair for Floridians - I only want it to last for that day!!

I will let you know how it all goes! Will I look like a princess or a minger??!!!!!

Thanks again,

Lorraine
