Hair Disaster

I do usually end up just putting it in a bun.

I believe the workplace issues you're referring to involve women of color with natural hair who were forced to use chemical straighteners in the workplace because they were told their natural hair didn't look "professional."

The straighteners can cause hair damage, scalp burns, hair loss, and more, so I don't blame them!
It was a broader group of people at my work, but that is due to the business I was in. Most did not involve chemical treatments, but taking time to blow dry and style their hair in a less curly fashion.

Herbal essence totally twisted mousse works wonders for me I have wavy hair, I apply the mousse to my wet hair and scrunch it up to help lock in the waves/curls and go, no blow drying needed. If you blow dry you need an oil type frizz serum to fight the humidity. I live in Fl and this is what works for me.

I second this suggestion. I have curly hair and have used this stuff for YEARS. It's pretty inexpensive and works like a charm. Have used it on vacation in FL a couple of times and it worked out great.

I grew up in florida and spent a fortune trying different cuts and products - I can honestly say I've NEVER had a good hair day in my life here. Never felt good about my hair. I finally got tired of spending a fortune fighting it and figured it could be worse - I could have no hair at all. So I just put it up and move on with life.

Not much help to OP, but at least she's only on vacation. She'll have her nice hair back when she leaves. lol.

I second keratin treatments. I get them and it's the only time I have decent hair at WDW. My 'natural' hair is a hot mess- too curly/wavy to be straight and too straight to be curly/wavy. The keratin treatments at least keep it from being frizzy.

so I wondered if maybe they know a secret I don't know?
There are some of us (like me) who have "curly" hair. The term curly can define anything from mild waves to kinky. My hair looks like a haystack in hot, humid weather. I keep it short for just that reason (and I don't really care for short hair). When I had long hair I would just put it in braids for the duration of the trip.

Those people who don't have naturally curly hair have different issues, but, generally, in hot, humid weather they come out looking better, but their hair can come out stringy sometimes.

Does the mousse make your hair feel “crunchy”?

I am trying to embrace my gray and I do not like the texture of the not dyed hair.

When my hair first drys with it in it’s just a little bit “crunchy”, but just scrunching my hair again softens it right up once it’s completely dry. The little bit of crunch it give is what makes it work in the humidity if that makes sense 🤔
