"Disaster" is probably a little dramatic, but does anyone have advice for frizzy hair in the Florida humidity?

Every time I go to WDW I straighten and style my hair until it looks smooth, then I go to a park thinking I look okay...
The first time I use the restroom and see myself in the mirror is always a "fun" surprise. My hair has lost any sort of style and it's tripled in width! 🙀🤣

At that point I just put it up in a hair clip and it's fine, but I see so many other people walking around with lovely hair so I wondered if maybe they know a secret I don't know?

Some of it is just different hair types, which you can't do anything about. A different cut can also lessen the impact of humidity poof. Personally, I know I can't have short layers because the shorter my hair is the more volume it gets and I turn into a mushroom.
Some of my aunts used to get keratin treatments, which I think they were happy with.

Yeah, my hair type can be difficult sometimes. It's wavy-ish but also coarse.
I can totally relate to the mushroom thing, great description!

When I lived in FL it was a battle to figure out my hair there. Now I live in a drier climate and I hate it. My hair was so much healthier from the humidity penetrating the cuticles of my hair. My advice, don't fight it. Let your natural waves be at their best. When you blow dry/straighten your hair it will frizz. If you apply a smoothing mousse and maybe a tiny bit of oil to seal the cuticle and let your hair air dry or diffuse gently you will have much less frizz. The main thing is to keep your hair well moisturized so that it doesn't absorb the moisture from the air.

You mention styling, so you may want to check if your products contain humectants. They make your hair soft and moisturized, but only really work within a certain temperature and dewpoint range. When you are in an environment that is too humid, they actually draw in the moisture from the air and make your hair frizz up.

I have started getting Keratin Express Treatments before vacations. My hair gets very poufy in humidity too. It lasts about 3 months for me and doesn't give me stick straight hair (compared to regular Keratin Treatment) and is half the cost. Been a lifesaver for me. Wish I would have done it sooner!

One of our favorite pass times when my wife go on Caribbean cruises is watching women the first night or two in the dining room. They work hard on their hair, they hit the humidity and wind on the ship, and usually by day two, they just give up.
Does amuse me that one of the recent workplace legal issues has been women demanding they be able to wear their natural hair. But when they should be relaxing on vacation, they want to take time to unnatural their hair!
And strictly my opinion, most women look better with their natural hair.

I have beachy waves. At home I can easily wear it wavy or straight depending on if/when I apply products and how I dry it. None of my home tricks work when vacationing somewhere with high humidity. While my hair is wet, I emulsify equal parts gel and anti frizz product in my hands, scrunch through and let air dry.

I've had frizzy hair all my life. I remember many years ago when at work (I worked at a hospital) and my co-worker commented on my hair, asking me why does my hair do that? Tried many things my whole life and now it's only worse wtih aging/menopause. Still have frizzy hair, just less of it. And, on top of that, I now live in the Southeast where it's hot and humid most of the year. My new hair style is a messy bun, everyday.

Herbal essence totally twisted mousse works wonders for me I have wavy hair, I apply the mousse to my wet hair and scrunch it up to help lock in the waves/curls and go, no blow drying needed. If you blow dry you need an oil type frizz serum to fight the humidity. I live in Fl and this is what works for me.

I do usually end up just putting it in a bun.

I believe the workplace issues you're referring to involve women of color with natural hair who were forced to use chemical straighteners in the workplace because they were told their natural hair didn't look "professional."

The straighteners can cause hair damage, scalp burns, hair loss, and more, so I don't blame them!
