my 3 daughters had their hair braided on the pier in Nassau. when I asked on the ship at guest services, I was told that this was the only place to have it done. they did not tell me that it is done on Castaway Cay and also on the ship.

I have seen it done at EVERY port of Call. My daughter had it done on the ship the first year. It was very expensive, the girl dong it was very rough, my daughter was iin tears and her scalp was bleeding (a combination, I'm sure, of sunburn). we have since had it done eachy year on shore. it is cheaper, quicker, and of better quality

Wow, bleeding!
I wanted my daughter to have it done. We were told not to get the kind thst uses alumunum foil, only the rubber bands. They don't last as long. I had her hair done @ CC and it cost $36 for what is called a headband. What they did was left out her bands (too short I guess) and did corn rows from ear to ear about 2 inches long, then tied it off with a bead and a black rubberband. Each row was $2 and there were 18 of them. I tell you one of them came undone on the plane home and I tried for an hour to redo it. I did it but it didn't look like the rest. LOL

It was $2 per cornrow
$1.50 for brades
and if your hair was at your shoulder or longer it was a dollar extra per row or braid.
A-lot of $$

I think that was it, $1 or $1.50 for braids

My niece had hers done on the ship the first evening. The girl did a beautiful job and it lasted for two weeks without a problem.

It was done in the "crown" stlye for $22 plus the tip. I believe it was $2 a row.

Yes, there is alot of pulling because they are trying to get it tight.
If you have a tender head or don't like having your hair tugged on, I would opt not to have it done. I've also heard people say that it gives them headaches.

Now I have very thick hair and never have had it done. I wonder if people with very fine or thin hair simply have a harder time keeping in the braids. Maybe someone can give a little insight on this.

i was wondering how you wash your hair with the braids in. if you get it done the first night can you still go in the ocean with the salt water jelly fish?

My DD had it done on the ship in the crown style. With tip, I paid $35 (I think it was something like $28 for the actual braids). Yes, you can swim with them in. As far as washing goes, you gently rub shampoo around the hair, and rinse thoroughly. No conditioner or they look greasy. You can still condition the loose part at the bottom. My DD has a tender head, and did say that it pulled while they were doing the braids. You can tell them if it hurts too badly. The tighter it is, the longer it will stay in.

My hair is really long, and I do it up in bahama style braids (think Bo Derek in 10 although I definitely don't look like that!) when I go camping. It's definitely cooler, and it stays out of my face. We have a lot of ticks where we live, and it's much easier to do a nightly head check with my hair this way.

If you do it on the islands get the "today only" discount of $1 per braid but set a maximum beforehand of say $40. They will do this and that way it doesn't turn out to be $60, $70 or more. That happened to our tablemates. My wife had it done on St. Maarten and I set the limit befoehand and when it was $37 I just gave her the full $40. it came out real nice and lasted a long time

I thought I read some where that the women who braid on the ship are also the ones that braid at CC. Am I correct?

We had our dd's hair done at CC, which took a lot of time. I am thinking of booking theirs for our last at sea day this time.

My DD has hers done on our first sea day (3/28). She still has them in! The girl on the ship did a great job and DD said that it didn't hurt. She has 20 cornrows in what she called the "half head" style and they cost $50 ($40 + $10 tip) She puts shampoo and conditioner in every day and they look great.

When I went to Aruba I had my hair braided and it looked really nice the only problem that I had with them is that they were very greasy. Do they use something in your hair to make them stay? I washed them prob two times a day and whatever they put in my hair it was really hard to get out.

My daughter had the "headband" on the ship for $24.00 (plus tip). IWe were approached by more than 10 women in Nassau to do her hair, but I read on these boards that many a person went home with an extra souveneir (lice) when they took that chance.
I would always suggest getting the total price up front no matter where you get it done.
