Who has done this (or seen someone who has done this) and what does it look like? Everyone saya Castaway Key is the safest place to get this done. Do they just braid all of your hair? and how much do they charge? (sorry for all the questions) Thanks!

DD (10) did this last year at CC. They have various styles which are displayed on wigs on stands, ranging from a full head of braids ($1 a braid) to corn rows where only some of the hair is plaited ($2 a cornrow).

DD decided on the cornrows on the front of her head and cost us about $40. It looked really cute but, unfortunately, later she had a touch of sunstroke and the braids really hurt her head so we spent an hour taking all the cornrows out!

Oh well, it was the last day, we got some got pictures and what's $40 between friends!?!?!

My dd 10 got her hair braided on St. thomas because she wanted it earlier in the week. $2/braid...she got the front of her head to the crown done in cornrows...really cute, but it took close to 2 hours! And $50!! The girl did 30 braids, but said top price was $50. We plan to keep it in until Christmas!!:D It was truely weird putting SPF 45 between the braids, but essential! It's novel now that we are home, but I don't know how long I'll put up with the style.;)

DD had her's done a Castaway Cay and it did stay in for almost 6 wks with no problem and when we went to take it down we got some of the spray on conditioner and wet each row down before we un-braided them and they seemed to not break very much of the hair, which we had read on here that the cornrows tended to do. I would vote for having it done at Castaway Cay they were by far the cleanest. :p

DD wanted her hair braided but when we got to Castaway Cay she didn't want to give up 2 hours to sit and have it done. We got her hair "Wrapped" at Disney World instead and it was adorable and stayed in for quite some time. It too was expensive but, she got to choose 3 colors of thread and a few colored beads and what the heck..it's vacation.!!Another plus was she was able to jsut tuck the wrap behind her ear and you couldn't see it . She wore it down for quite awhile and then for school pics. sports etc she tucked it.

LOL! My dd just came downstairs ready for school and begged me to take the braids out! Well, that lasted one week. :D She said she feels out of place here in PA having the braids....would probably feel more comfy if it were summer and not doing school everyday.

Also, keep in mind that many girls will have their hair done in St. Maarten and St. Thomas. This will give you and your DD a chance to see all the different styles and options before you get to Castaway Cay.

This helped my DD alot, and after seeing other girls on the Magic, she decided to get corn rows in the front, and leave it natural in the back. The cost was about $42. She's had them in almost a week now and really likes them.

We only let dd get two braids on each side of her head..with beads. I only let her get it done on CC because personally, I
feel it is cleaner and safer than ST or SM. That is just my opinion.

There was a thread here not long ago about a girl getting hers done at ST or SM..and got lice!!! Then someone said what if
you don't get to dock at CC??? Well, I'd rather not dock at CC
than have head lice!!! I'm not saying that everyone gets it who
gets their hair done on the other Islands...it's just my decision for
my dd. And if we don't dock at CC..then she can get the wrap
at Downtown Disney or Old Key West.

Just one Mom's opinion.....

Wow! I never thought/heard about lice being a problem....I just took her braids out....She looks really clean. Whew...

When I was 13 (2 years ago, I'm 15 now and will be 15 in cruise in April 2002!), I got my hair braided on my first DIsney cruise on Castaway Cay because I thought it would be more sanitary, and it was. The braids also lasted for quite a while, and it took me forever to take them out since they were put in so well. I got the corn rows in the front of my head with the braid going all the way down. It cost $63 (21 braids, 2 dollars for corn rows, 1 dollar for the extended braid) and it was well worth it. It was quite a bit of a wait, so I suggest you get off the ship as early as they let you get off, and go straight to hair braiding. I waited (in the sun) for about 3 hours, and then about 30 minutes for the braiding. You also get to pick two color beads. I can't wait to do it again!
