Haggling with Vendors

Hi All-

I know that you are supposed to haggle with vendors and that they expect it, but I don't want to insult anyone. For you miserly folks , how do you decide on a starting offer???

I usually start at about 1/2 what they are asking. If it is something that you have a pretty good idea of what it would cost you at a store and they are way over that, then I give them some really low number.

I have seen some people spend 30 minutes haggling over a couple bucks.. guess it is a challenge at that point
