Had to Switch.....Which Value Resort?

We were scheduled to do an extended Christmas vacation at WL this year. We have had to change our plans and will now be visiting Disney later than we expected (between Christmas and New Years) and for a shorter period of time. Because the majority of our time will be spent at the parks and little time at our resort, we have decided to switch from a deluxe to a value resort.

My questions are....Which resort is better for a family of four with two children ages 11 and 13? I am looking for something with a decent pool and food court and fairly decent transportation to the parks. If we decide to drive to the parks ourselves which resort gives us the better transportation route? Should we go with a preferred location or doesn't it matter? Any specific areas within any of the value resorts to request?

Thanks for any and all help you can give us!

We have stayed at all three of the All Star resorts. I like the Movies the best. We will be there in 9 days. The rooms are all the same size and each resort has two pools. I think the food court may be bigger at the ASMo. It also has an outside eating area that is covered. I like the way this resort is decorated. We stayed, for the second time, at the ASSports last year and it was also nice. If your kids are in to sports they may really like this resort. Driving to the parks will be the same because the resorts are all in a line:Sports, music, then movies. The bus transportation usually sports is picked up first so I would have to say it has the best transportation. We have been at the movies and had a few buses pick us up with no other passengers.

Good luck. I hope you have a great trip!!

I stayed at Movies last year in May. I really enjoyed it. We stayed at the Toy Story one, which I loved. The rooms are nice, kinda small but not too bad. We were basically only in our rooms to sleep. The food court was really nice and only about a 3-5 minute walk from the hotel. We really didn't have a problem with the buses. The only time they were packed was early in the morning on the Bus that went to the Early Entry place. The one bad part was when we went to play mini golf it took about an hour and a half to finally get back to the hotel.

My favorite is the Sports. I like being picked up first and dropped off first.
The last 2 times I have been to WDW I was at Pop Century. If I were going to do a value again, it would be PC.

We are staying at All Starts Movie and we requested Toy Story Building. :hyper: I ask this same question on another chat site :chat:and they all told me that POC is the newest and has it's own bus line. So they don't pick up anyone else. If you are looking for a quicker way to and from you may want to try POC. I heard all the same things above about the All Stars Mo,Mu & S.

Good luck, I hope you have a Magical time which ever one you pick.:sunny:

I have stayed at both the movies and the sports. We prefer the sports because of the good bus transportation 1st to be picked up first to be dropped off. Apart from that the rooms are all pretty much the same although the preferred rooms are nearer the pool and food courts, but no room seemed further than 5 mins walk away from anything.

Pop Century!!!! It is (in my opinion) one of the cutest resort on WDW property.

Just got back from sports--beware. The rooms are clean and the food is decent. Yes, you are the first one picked up, but if you're not early enough they stop at music and movies too. Pop century is the same rooms, but less bus stops. We just got back from the sports and we've always liked it because of the family atmosphere. There were way too many kids with no chaperones (we're talking tweens here). My husband found two kids who were walking out the door of the food court with parents (about 2 and 5). We tracked down their parents who were sitting at a table halfway down the hall and eating calmly not realizing where the heck their kids were. Too much of that at the Sports.

We've stayed at all of the All-Stars and Pop Century. I would choose Pop Century again in a heartbeat. The Hippy Dippy pool has showering flowers and there are 2 other pools and pop jets. Bus service is really good. A couple of times there were so many people in line they loaded 2 buses for the same park at the same time. We also enjoyed the food court. Good variety. I wouldn't pay for a preferred room as the resort is fairly compact and the farthest room out is not more than a 5 minute walk.

We've stayed at the All Star Movies three times (for quick, LONG weekend trips to see the Christmas decorations!). About two weeks ago, we split our trip between Pop Century and Wilderness Lodge!

My youngest DD absolutely LOVES All Star Movies - 101 Dalmations being her favorite section! We've always had a wonderful stay - no problems with noise (we never heard our neighbors), the food court is pretty good, and bus service was great!

My family really enjoyed our stay at Pop Century! It is so cute!! Because my DH & older DD love the 60s, I did book the preferred bldg. But it did look as though all the buildings were a short walk to the food court/bus stop! It was very nice having direct bus service - no stops at any other hotels!

Have a great trip - and have fun choosing resorts!!!
