I just spoke with a friend who went to Disneyland in late April... We had meant to talk before she left, but never got around to it. It was her, her dh, her dm and her ds who is 5.

She complained that the lines we so long, and that she and dh would trade off waiting in line with ds... and that when dh would take ds back to the hotel for a nap she and her dm would hit the "big people" rides.

So, I asked, didn't you guys use the FPs?? "No, because I don't think our tickets came with them--anyway someone told me, it doesn't really make the line any shorter."

So, then I asked, what about the single rider lines, or baby switching for the stuff ds couldn't/wouldn't go on... I was met with silence.

After I picked myself off the floor and explained everything, she was really quiet... then she told me they waited, not once, but 3 times for Soarin for over an hour each time. Then she said they are planning to go back next year, cause they had a good time, but hardly got anything done... and could I help her plan this time!!

Wow... in a way, I think we should be thankful for the clueless... they make it easier on all of us with a plan!

Wow! Before the boards I wasn't THAT clueless (no offense) but am thankful now for all the knowledge and experience everyone shares. This trip I am going with a plan (never have before) and we will get to enjoy even more magic since I now know how to get the most of the parks. I've learned so much from all of you (even with nearly a dozen trips under my belt). Thanks everyone!!! :thumbsup2

Wow, that is shocking! It is just amazing that people will go somewhere without really finding out about. It would be interesting to know what percentage of DLR goers on any given day don't know about or us FP.

I also was not that clueless before these boards. Wow!

I must say tho that many just aren't planners, they enjoy flyin' by the seat of their pants! The thought of that gives me HIVES! :scared:

I have 3 GF's that all go to WDW 1 of them didn't plan a thing out...just went. I thin she gavethe rest of us coronaries!! LOL!

I do agree w/ you tho, they make it easier on the rest of us. Occasionally I get such a good tip I don't want to let it out of the bag, I want to keep it to myself! :rolleyes1 I figure if they wanted the info...they'd be on a message board somewhere. :laughing: Sorry mom!

Anytime I go somewhere for a vacation I buy a book. That's madness... poor family I wish they would've known so they'd have happier memories. :confused3

Thats too bad but I bet it wont happen twice with them.
I know that I always feel a bit like a Rock Star lol when I walk past 150 people on BTMRR with my fast pass.
The other night, we were there, and the park was closing in about half an hour , we were going to go on BTMRR but didnt have fast passes, the line was about 25 min but I just couldnt do it. I couldnt wait in that line for that long instead of using a F.P.
Ive been spoiled I know the secret to getting behind the velvet rope, I can NO LONGER STAND IN LINE~:snooty:
:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:
I just wont do it:lmao::lmao:

I was that clueless !! We went the first time and had a really rough time. we were hot, tired, lines were terrible and we just stayed at the motel most of the time because we just did not kn ow anything. coming from a small town where you never wait in line for a carnival line, we were hit with culture shock big time. lines for rides food and everything. fast pass ? did not know about them, single rider line ?? nope. now you know why I ask every question in the book!!
Oh and the first time we went, we had so many blisters sun burns and fussy little boys I just about gave up and never went back. My second trip I went with a lady who said she would show me the ropes, said she would show it all to me and my daughter, and help us do it all. We ended up with her taking us to the lost bar most of the time, or cove bar. She drove us nuts with running us from one park to the next, one ride on one side and one on the other end of the park. yeah that was several days from hell!! She spent 3 days with us, OMG I thought I would go mad. she said thats how its done, you jump from one part of the park, to the other, then run across the esplanade to DCA then back again. I was so sick after that trip !

My third time I went and decided I was going to find a board to learn from, lurk, read and soak in what I needed to know. Well the last few trips have been amazing !!! And we went to WDW and had a blast to. Fast pass was our friend, and single rider lines.
Oh and the first time we went we could not even eat in the park. the lines were terrible, and we did not know about reservations. We were clueless.

my daughter teacher is heading to Disneyland in 1 week, he has never been and does not kn ow anything. I offered to help him, but he said oh Ive been to theme parks so it should be a piece of cake:scared1: I said ummmmm you need to make dining reservations, and you need to know more about the fast pass and rides. he was like oh, we are not planners, we go and have fun and never worry..... dumb Azz Im sure he will get throw for a loop like I did when he gets there and trys a sit down dinner :lmao::lmao::lmao:
really in this town we never wait in lines for anything, its so small that we never have to :lmao:

Well in her defense, a lot of the fastpass machines were off the last week of April. There were several rides that we were going to get them for, but apparently DL felt it wasn't busy enough for them (yeah any time Autopia reaches the hour mark you can have that machine going please! LOL).

But yes it's good to be knowledgable on all the tricks of the trade. Without these boards I know I would have never learned them all!

After understanding the" Joys of Fast Pass" and the "Thrills of Rider Switch" it makes me wonder why anyone would use the Stand By line.
But...... If we all knew the tricks at DL; the Fast Pass line would be longer than the Stand By LOL
Gotta love the newbies :)

We have a friend who was planning a trip last August for 11 people in his family: grandparents, parents, and kids. It was the first and probably only DLR trip that the grandkids would go on. I asked him what guidebooks he was using or if I could help with any info. etc. He said that no one would need a guidebook there.....It's not as if they were going to Paris or New York and they needed to know what the different sites were there to see. He said that it was only Disneyland and everything was in one spot, so why would they need any kind of guidebook? I offered to help anyway, and they did end up picking up guidebooks and making specific plans, and everything worked out great. I just couldn't imagine going to DLR with 11 people duirng mid August with NO plan at all! Yikes! So, because of this, I think some people just don't even think of getting a book or looking into information because they think they just won't need it. It seems as if they don't have an accurate perception of what Disneyland is like and they think it is like going to a county fair or something similar. :confused3

That is OK. I will be there in August. The more people in the regular lines the easier it will be for me and my family.

I am exactly the same way!:laughing: The only exception is when a ride is new, then we are expected to wait. But we still hightail it over there at park opening or wait until the fireworks/parades are going and the line dies down. Even still, the most I waited for Nemo or Toy Story was about 40 mintues. A couple of hours? NO WAY!

PS - How are the wedding plans coming? You are living a lot of peoples dream with your wedding.:cloud9: I hope you share a few pics with us afterwards.:)

He he! That is funny and does make for a good point. :)

I am always amazed at the number of folks in the regular lines on the FP rides. I definately do not feel bad walking past those standing in the heat for x minutes or more. What I do not understand is why they do not clue in. We always do August and it seems pretty busy to me.

LOL neither do we why would you ever stand in a line that you can fastpass is beyond me. Of course it is different in the morning when there is only a 5 min wait but I fastpass it for later.

Fastpass a fastpass ride go stand in a line for a ride without fastpass then before you go on your fastpass ride go fastpass another fastpass ride and repeat
