Had some Disney magic at Ollivanders

We did Ollivanders first during EE every morning we were there and made the 2nd or 3rd show of the day. We felt a half hour wait was not so bad. Okay I will agree it was Mummy Dust and wonderful mummy dust it was

There is no Disney magic at Universal. There is no Disney magic at Universal. What your family experienced was brought on by Mummy Dust which is much more powerful than the Pixie stuff down the road.

Wonder what would happen if you mixed the 2 . . . . . .mummified pixies perhaps!

I've actually seen this happen as well. A lady was chosen, but she commented that she was only there in support of her friend, who was a huge Harry Potter fan. They were asked to come up, and both received wands

This is very good news. I wouldn't go above and beyond to get selected over a child, but I didn't know that I stood a chance at all for getting chosen.

I'm a huge Harry fan and even knowing I have the chance to participate in something like Olivanders puts a smile on my face.

Another idea for anyone who is on the fence about Ollivanders-we had agreed that if the Ollivanders line was too long when we got to HP we would just skip it. We did the FJ, Hippogriff, tried the Butterbeer (from the line on the other side of the cart, thanks to a Dis tip) and then went out into the rest of the park but returned mid-afternoon. We spent the rest of the day there and right around 5:30 there was NO line at Ollivanders so we went in with maybe 7 people behind us and then the icing on the cake was my son was chosen! So if you dont want to wait early in the day and it really doesnt matter if you do it or not, you may want to just wait and come back. Could backfire on busy days tho...

Yes, there is always a chance. I've been into the show 10 times on different days. 7 times a child was chosen, and 3 times adults were chosen. I think they tend to choose children more often than not, but they realize that adults make up a good portion of the fanbase as well.

DD wasn't picked for the show but they asked us to stay behind and they did a mini ceremony just for her. Great for pics!

Think it had something to do with her being 6, dressed in robes and talking to the guy at the front about how she was in the middle of the 4th book - all on her own! That was in May. She's almost done the last book now!

She tried to convince me that when she finishes the last book we should go back to Universal.

I am fairly conversant in things Disney, but Universal is a whole new language for me. We're taking a last-minute day trip there next week, and I think we'll be stopping at Ollivander's. I am wondering the following:

If by some wonderful stroke of luck either of my two boys was chosen for the ceremony, what is the etiquette of allowing his brother to stand with him for the ceremony? Would anyone get angry at this?

We were there yesterday and they chose 2 people for our show as well - two sisters - so maybe they are trying to increase the potential wand sales .

We were in WWoHP at 6.30am for breakfast (Virgin holidays offer) but the EE people from the hotels were definately in before 7am - i could see people starting to reach WWoHP by 6.55. We were second in line for Ollivanders and family in front of us were staying onsite the mum told me and they had got in about 6.50am. So probably worth turning up for EE early (EEE?). People were at the gates at 6.15 when we arrived for Virgin thing.

My friend and I were chosen for it at once. Here is how it happens he gives them both a wand it fails, then he gives the wand one person had to the other person and gives that wand to the first person and then the lights and music go off.

I expect that before too long everyone in the audience will be chosen for a wand and then will be ushered into the wand shop to buy it! Why sell only one plastic stick for $30 every 5 minutes when you can sell 25 for $750 every 5 minutes?! If this were Disney, it would already be done this way!

Saw the same thing happen at one show we were at a teenager was dressed in the robe and the wand keeper asked her if she had a wand she said no and he told her she was not supposed to wear the robe without a wand. He picked someone else for the show and then talked to her after the show privately.

My brother also got a mini-ceremony around Christmas last year. After a little girl was chosen for the ceremony, my brother's shoulders slumped in disappointment, but he was excited for the person chosen. He knew that it just meant we would have to try again. As the crowd was leaving, a manager told us to stay put. My brother was shaking with excitement when he realized what was happening. Was really magical having the room to ourselves

This is why I love Universal, and continue to buy an annual pass. The team members are absolutely amazing, and know when you need a little extra magic in your day

I'm guessing you've never been to the Owl Post. In the room outside the show, there are tons of people buying birthday wands and character wands. There is a stand by Hippogriff that sells various wands, and the main stores in IOA/USF/Citywalk all sell character wands. Wands sell. The little show is just that: a show.

The lines at Ollivanders are scary now, if everyone got to have a wand choose them then the rest of the park would be empty as everyone would be in line all day at Ollivanders. The wand choosing is not that short of an event where every person can have it done, mine took over 10 minutes. Unless the wandmaker doesn't actually do anything but randomly pull boxes off the shelf and say, "Hmmm holly with a unicorn hair core would be best for you...." then hand you the box and shove you to the register. Which would not only suck but be so off cannon of the books what would be the point in even having Oliivanders there? So if that's how Disney would've done it, I once again thank the heavens that Disney did not get the Potter rights.

Besides as someone else said, it doesn't matter if people actually get chosen for the wand ceremony or not, they are still buying them by the arm load. Wands fly off the shelves faster than they are pouring butterbeer at the park.
