You might remember my posting on Monday that my youngest, Jessica, was home sick from school and missed her holiday concert. Even though she still had a cough, her fever was down so I sent her to school from Tues to Thurs. Last night, the fever came back, her cough was worse and the fever was still there this morning. I called the doctor and they had me bring her in. They told me she has a mild case of pneumonia!!!! :earseek: They prescribed an antibiotic, Robitussin DM for the cough (if it helps - she's been taking it since Mon and the cough is still there) and tylenol for the fever if needed.

Welcome to winter!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hope your little angel feels better soon. Lucky for her she has a good Mommy. :D

I sure hope she is feeling better soon..... I am not the type to worry about winter illness and flu but I'll tell ya the media has sure got me nervous this year.
Sending PD your way.

Oh honey I can relate. Yesterday afternoon in the pouring rain I took DS and DD to the pediatrician. S has a sinus infection and K has an ear infection and I have a cold (ok and I admit PMS too!). I hope your DD feels better, at least she be herself for the upcoming holidays.

Did you notice her having any trouble breathing? Both my girls are sick. Anabelle, my 5 year old, has symptoms much like Jessica. Her fever went away on Wed. but was back yesterday afternoon. Her coughing is about the same. I was at my doctor today (for a sinus infection) and he said the most reliable way at home to watch for pneumonia was to monitor the breathing rate. More than 40 breaths per minute and call the doctor. Anabelle's is much slower than that, but I was wondering how Jessica's was?

PS-I hope she gets better soon! Anabelle will be missing her bestest friend's birthday tomorrow and most likely her Sunday school class singing for the church on Sunday. Doesn't it just break your heart?

Been there, done that - just finished Biaxin. We have had many cases of reported pneumonia up here. Our doctor is calling it the "four day cough" and has prescribed more antibiotics in the last month than the cares to do. He's also had to send a number of children to the hospital.

Please take care and if you have a cough that last more than four days or you're having trouble breathing get to the doctor, this new form of pneuomia "hides" (your lungs sound clear but within 48 hours it turns to pneumonia). Trust me, both my son and I just finished antibiotics - don't take the chance - better safe than sorry!

So sorry to hear she's not feeling well.:( But hang in there. My DD had pneumonia a few years ago and did quite well after the antibiotics. She had a cough that stuck around for a while, but she did feel better pretty quickly. It's so hard to see your child so sick, but keep the faith!:D

To help with the cough Triamanic NIght time is great and stops the cough.

Ellester,
I honestly don't know how fast or slow she's breathing. When the kids are older (not babies) you kind of lose touch when you're not holding them as often. I know the doctor told her repeatedly to take a deep breath in. Must of done 4 or 5 different "listens" with the stesecope (spelling??) She didn't seem to be taking deep enough breathes. Everytime she tried, she would start to cough. The doctor did tell me that they are treating so many cases of pneumonia this year. :( Hope your daughter feels better. If the cough continues, don't hesitate to call your doctor back!!

Wonder what is making this winter so much worse than past years? :worried:

I hope she feels better real soon. With the antibiotic now, she should definitely start to feel better within the next day or two.

My DD, an asthmatic, started with a cough in September that wouldn't go away, so I brought her in after 2 days and it was bronchitis. 3 days later, still with antibiotics, she was the same and xrays showed pnuemonia. It happens quicker than you think without signs you think you'd know about.

It is scary that pneumonia can develop so quickly. I always hesitate to take my kids to the doctor when they have a cold (which isn't very often) because every time I have in the past it has been nothing more than a virus that just has to run its course. I'll be sure to check their breathing if they get sick. my daughter was a preemie and I am always overly concerned for her health. Stay healthy, everyone.
