But I didn't make the desicion to buy right then and there. My guide was giving us offer after offer (DVC would buy back 2004 points as well as a $750 price cut because SSR is still under construction) but we just weren't sure of our finances and didn't sign on the dotted line. She gave us until May 14th to sign and still get the signing perks.

Now as we got home we realize we are in better shape and can actually afford to join DVC. As you can see by the date of this post May21st, we missed our mark that she gave us.

We are looking at being able to sign in mid-june or early July of this year. Are we still able to get DVC to buy back points and get the other perks, or was our guides sorta pressure selling a one-time offer and now it is gone? Are the guides paid on commission, because the offers being still available to us right now would really send us over the edge to pick up the phone and buy! Are we allowed to switch guides or are we stuck with the original one we had (I.e. is there better guides out there willing to do more to help you on with signing?)

I am interested to read if anybody on here didn't purchase at the open house and still got the perks when they joined a few months later (mainly the buyback of points)?

Actually, the price increased about that time, so no, that offer is no longer available. They always give you a few days after your trip to take the "on site" offer. That part is not new. I would call anyway and see what the guide tells you.

The price did increase the week before we had our open house. She said DVC would buy back our 150pts at 95/pt

Should have done it then ***KICKING SELF***

Join the crowd! We have kicked ourselves for year for not buying in at the beginning of 1992 when we first heard about DVC! WE didn't buy until 1997.

Welcome to another poster from Northville!!!
Call your guide and see what they can do for you. The majority of the guides are great. PM me if you have specific guide questions.
We didn't buy until 1998 (at BWV) and had thought about it for two years prior. We also wanted to kick ourselves for not buying sooner. Good luck -- you will love it!

Thanks for the welcome... Counting our luck stars after last nights light display ;) Weather says its going to do the same thing again tonight.

My wife and I are going to call our guide early next week now see if we can work something out.

Now since we are in the same area... How do you get down there (we just drove, but with gas prices sky rocketed in just over a week so maybe cars are not the best mode for our 1,250 mile trip)

If you fly, what special sites do you goto to get the best price. I have tried Orbitz and Hotwire and those but the rates are still pretty high

We usually go every Easter week because of DS being in school. We paid $295 each for Easter thru Spirit. We drove one year (when we did the Disney cruise) and that was not fun!
I always check Spiritair.com because they have the best deals. They are always cheaper than Expedia, Orbitz, etc. I checked earlier today for next Easter week, but the schedule is not out yet. On the other side, I also checked Northwest for the same time period, and they came back with $450+++. I have always found Spirit to have the best prices and service. This past Easter, we parked, a van picked us up, and we got our tickets and went thru security in 25-minutes. Our friends flew Northwest instead, and they waited one hour to check their bags. (We both left the same day and around the same time.)

we went this easter, we were driving up to about 2 or 3 months out we found airfare on ata out of indy 4 of us $670.
we booked right away for christmas spirit out of chicago 180. round trip per person, sis and i going next week 130.oo round trip southwest out of chicago, booked end of march.
i think its all a hit or miss but with gas prices i would book soon as possible.

im looking for the thread about the ssr points that were 79.00 a point has anyone seen it?

I'm not sure where Northville, MI is located, but we've found flights out of flint for around $200 and they're direct from flint to orlando.

Brenda :earsboy:

Really?? Flint is only about 45mins from us!

What days are the best to be flying (rate wise) down to florida and then back home?

Do you find you get a better price to book a round trip our two one-ways? As you can probably tell, I am not that big on flying. The last ride I took was about 14 years ago when I was 13.

We drive now pretty much everywhere we go. In fact the last trip to Disney was my first time driving that far from my house (21 hours) Usually it has been about 10-11 hours max!

I'm from the Metro Detroit area as well....

My DW keeps finding deals flying Northwest nonstop out of Bishop to MCO for about $200 or so...

'Course this year, we're driving down to Florida, since we're gonna hit HHI on the way back up.. :D

We ususally find that flying out on Sunday's or Tuesday's give the best rates, but its pretty hit or miss with Northwest..

brivers,

I have a feeling if you are willing to put down the $500 deposit, they will extend the offer. If you are looking to buy in June or July, you can put the deposit down now, and you still have time to sign, and if you change your mind, you have the option to get your deposit back.

I really don't like the three day tactic as this is a big family/financial decision to make. It was the only thing that turned me off about the whole deal.

PM me if you want more info.

It is a very big decision that I don't feel could have been made on the spot. Especially since we only had an "inquiring minds would like to know" approach. I didn't know about this website and the ONLY way to get information out of any of the CM's was to go on the OpenHouse. So we wanted to look more into this, not knowing it would void all chances at the discounts "Magical Beginnings" that first time buyer over the phone would get :(

That being said, my DW is going to make the call to our guide tomorrow as she is finally back from the Disney Cruise Ship. We are going to give it a go for the first year point buy back deal and let her know that if she can do this for us we will but the down payment down and finance through disney right then and there!

Wish us luck, I will report back after we get in touch with her!

Why don't you try a resale? Unless you really want the 50 years that come with SSR, I don't see the big draw.

We could kick ourselves too. We joined last October (Saratoga) and we first visited DVC in1993 (OKW). Didn't join because we were building our home here in Novi, Mi and felt we couldn't swing it. I think the going rate was $50+ per point!!!

hey brivers222,

just wondering if you have relatives in ma?? i noticed that you are from mi, and my neice goes up and visits her uncle bobby and his wife and children up there for a few weeks during the summer. just wondering if that was you???

hmm relatives in MA... Not that I am aware of. However, my dads name in Bob, so I can see where the Uncle Bobby would come into play, but we don't have anybody in MA the last I checked.

Unless, he is leading a double life  :teeth:

Actually it is te 50 years that is attracting us to buy into the club. We are newly weds and being able to have a place to possibly come visit in Florida every year or so would be an excellent release. I have been keeping track of our latest trips and vacations and I have been noticing what a huge different it would make if your hotels were already prepaid. A nice thought to know that we have a resort in Florida we can go to and all we have to do is get there :D

When we eventually have kids it will be nice to be able to take them down there as well. And looking into the distant future, our grandkids as well.

And even if we have a few points left over in the year we can't back because of banking deadlines... The Grand in Mackinac Island is always calling our name. (breakfast and 5 course dinner included... you can't beat that!)
