After we get back from a trip I like to send Disney and e-mail and let them know the things they did right, things they can improve and so on. Usually I get a nice e-mail back thanking me for my feedback and they will take it in to consideration. That's all I expect, really, and I I have noticed that they have listened, like they worked on the sound to the Country Bears after I sent an e-mail that all the kids in the audience had their hands over their ears.

This time I sent them an e-mail letting them know that we loved the dining plan, but we wished that there was a plan offering 2 CS and 1 TS meal per day, or the ability to purchase additional credits. I also suggested a Star Wars character meal and a Pixar themed character meal, more geared towards boys.

So instead of getting a nice e-mail back, she called me. :cool1: She said that over the time they have had the dining plan, they have changed it based on customer feedback, and that almost everyone says it is too much food, and asks for less. That's why they removed the appetizer, people complained it was too much. And why they don't offer 2 CS and 1 TS per day. I suggested that they offer a basic plan, like they have now, but give families the option to add meals and snacks if they think that their family needs it. Obviously there is no way that the DDP can be a perfect for everyone, but they can add meals as their budget allows, and to what they need. Because, we, as adults, don't need 3 meals and snacks every day. But the kids do need that, so I would be willing to purchase those credits extra on the dining plan to fit our family. She said we could get the deluxe plan, but I said getting 3 kids 9 and under to sit through 3 TS meals a day would be a disaster. She agreed.

She was also very excited about my character meal suggestions, particularly Pixar. Maybe she was just being polite, but I can't imagine that my e-mail was the first one to suggest it. So, she sent my e-mail on to the board that makes the changes to Disney Dining, because she liked my suggestions and said it was very clear and she agreed with most of them.

and we had an interesting talk as well about the direction the park is going, but that's not for the Dining board...

I'm glad Disney listens to customer feedback. We have always used the Quick Service plan because it best suits our family and we like the convenience of being pre-paid. This lets us choose whatever we want, with no guilt and no need to try to "save" at meal times.

This year, we have Quick Service for "free." Since it is now one less snack per person/per day, I am not sure we would have purchased it as part of our package. I know we could save money by just taking a pre-paid Disney card for our meal plan, and that's probably what we will do next time.

I know Disney needs to do what is best for the company from a financial standpoint, but I think the change to the QS plan will not be good for sales. I wish Disney would offer a plan where you could pick a specific number of CS, TS, and snack credits for your vacation. Maybe it could be priced with an incentive so that if you purchased more meals, the price per meal would be less. My family liked 2 CS and 2 snacks per day; those snack credits make your time in the park a little more flexible, and the kids like to shop at Goofy's candy place in Downtown Disney. I know some people cringe when I say this, but using a snack credit for a bottled water never bothers me. Now we will likely need to pay OOP when it's time to buy drinks. If we had to pay for the QS plan (not cheaper than it was, even though you've lost those snack credits), paying OOP for drinks would be painful.

i too wish they had 2 snack credits per person per day as we would use them on bottle water as well at times. I bought the QS this trip and would gladly add on cost to prepay for the extra snack credit they took away instead of digging bills out of the wallet thru the day for that water or popcorn as we watch a show.

You know on the Deluxe plan you don't "have" to do three TS meals per day. You can most definitely use your credits for QS meals also.

The thing is no one is forcing you into the Dining Plan. It either works for you or it doesn't. :confused3

I don't understand your comment? :confused3 My post was about feedback I gave to Disney about the dining plan and their response. So I'm not sure how your comment follows?

Not sure why anyone would use a snack credit on bottled water when you can go to ANY stand that sells fountain soda and ask for and get, ice water for free! It's filtered and isn't nasty like the water fountains

plutolovr is saying that Disney already has a dining plan that includes 3 meals per day. It's the Deluxe Dining Plan (DxDP). You get 3 meal credits and 2 snack credits per person per night. The meal credits can be used for either TS or QS meals. You do not have to use them only for TS.

Exactly this! You can get the exact plan you are looking for - The Deluxe Dining Plan - You can use those 3 dining credits how you want - So you DO have the option of 2 CS and 1 TS + 2 snacks on the Dining Plan. :)

Why don't you just charge it to your room? Then you only need your KTTW.

This is good to know. Still, it would be nice to have the option, on ANY of the dining plans, to purchase a specific number of CS, TS, or snack credits. Disney could offer the same plans they now do, with the same general provisions, but then allow people to add whatever they want. It could only add revenues for Disney, right?

I understand that technically you can use the Deluxe plan for CS, but given the cost, that would would be silly. A more common sense approach would be to have 2 Cs and 1 TS meal per day, or allow the guest to decide how much they want to eat per day.

The whole point was to let Disney know what my thoughts about the plan were, WRT my family's needs, and to make some suggestions to make it better. And they were very interested in what I had to say.

Isn't that the same thing as paying out of pocket and not using the dining plan? You get whatever you want to buy.

Yeah but you can't carry a cup of ice water in your backpack or onto rides like you can a bottle of water.

My ideal plan would be 2 TS per day with one or two snack credits. I think a better system would be some type of points-based system for everything and you just buy a number of points allowing for lots of flexibility and customization.

Thank you for posting this. I'm sure like many I have thought to e-mail them, but thought it would not be noticed. To have this sort of follow-up is exceptional on Disney's part. What a unique opportunity.

The filtered water for the most part still doesn't taste good to me. Also we buy water or now buy a case before we get to the resort because we are in DVC since I don't want to drink the water all then and there, I want to carry it around wth me. Nor do I want to wait online for it.

To the OP - glad they called you back & hopefully they really do take opinions of guests and not just to seem like they care.

One thing I wish Disney would consider is if a child over the age of 10 wants to be on the childrens dining plan than let them be charged for the childrens dining plan. We are going next yr and my my 2 sons ages 10 and 12 both still order off childrens menu but we have to pay the adult price. I wish they would let you choose that option.

I like the idea of a Pixar or Star Wars character meal. We would definitely book a reservation if that ever happened.

Our DS just turned 10, so we are probably done with the dining plan as he is not a big eater at all and would still order off the kids menu 99% of the time.

I agree with this. None of the DDPs fit the way I want to eat. I am not a snacker and usually skip breakfast. I am also not a fan of very many CS restaurants. I like to eat an early TS lunch, then a TS dinner around 7:00pm. No way would I even be interested in the counter service DDP. The basic DDP does not offer enough TS credits, but too many QS credits. The DxDDP is just too many credits (unless you do a Signature restaurant every night). Plus we always have almost all our snack credits to get rid of our last day, since we seldom ever use them during the week. Since none of the DDPs fit the way I eat and since I am an AP holder, I've been using the TiW which gives me a discount and allows me to eat what and where I want. However, I would love a plan where you just pay for the number of credits in each category that you want. I'd like to buy say twelve TS credits, no more than four CS credits, and maybe two or three snack credits.

I used to be a big proponent of the basic DDP and DxDDP, but then realized I did alot better with the TiW card. I refuse to skimp on vacation and always order exactly what I'm in the mood for, so one of the big draws of the DDP was being able to order the most expensive item on the menu or the cheapest item and still pay the same amount. I love having everything prepaid. Now I just use the TiW card and then use Disney gift cards to pay for my meals and gratutities. Everything is still prepaid and because I always make sure there is more money on the card than I will use, I never think about food prices and still come home with money left over every trip. When looking at what I spend, it is still usually the same or alot of times less than what the DDP would cost me because if I happen to be in the mood for two appetizers, then I can order that and if I happen to not be in the mood for dessert, then I don't feel like I need to order one like I would on the DDP.
