This was our 6th visit to WDW and we had a great time as usual. This was a surprise trip for our kids. We didn't tell them until the morning we left, boy was that hard to do! We didn't arrive to the WL until 10:00 at night on the 28th of January. I had a woods view and then I switched it to a standard view to save some money. We got upgraded to a courtyard view on the 5th floor overlooking the quiet pool. I can't remember our room number but it was 4th from the end by the lake. I loved the view of the pool, it was very peaceful. I really liked the location. We utilized those stairs. We stayed here for 4 nights and everyone was great. Houskeeping did a terrific job as usual. I wish I could say the same over at the AKL. My parents decided to stay for a night. There weren't any AP rates available so we got a standard room rack rate. My dh talked to the CM's working the front desk and they upgraded their room to a inner courtyard room on the 5th floor. They had a great view as well. I'm not sure what courtyard view I liked better, they are both very nice.
We had breakfast at WCC on my dd's bday, what a hoot! We did lots of swimming and enjoyed having the quited pool to ourselves most of the time. We also rented bikes and went over to FW for lunch. We really had a great time. My parents loved it as well.
We switched over to the AKL concierge on Feb. 1st for 2 nights. We got there around 10:00 and got to grab a bite to eat before checking in. I was hoping for early check in because this was going to be our resort day. We needed a room with bunkbeds so it wasn't until 2:00 before we could get into our room. It worked out just fine though because we went to the gift shop, hung out in the lounge, I did laundry and I got a last minute massage down in the fitness center!
My dh enjoyed watching the superbowl in the lounge and down at the pool. We both enjoyed the great drinks they offer down there.
All of the CM's up in the lounge are great. They gave my kids a bunch of goodies(animal cups, animals, pencils and other trinkets)
I just love the concierge. The lounge is awesome. We met some great people who were staying there as well. We always seem to meet lots of people when we stay at the AKL concierge.
We used the buses and had no complaints.
I did notice that the animals weren't out as much as they were during our previous stay in the summer, probably just to cold.
We are planning on staying at the AKL concierge again this summer for our 10 yr anniversary. We will do the Sunset Safari then. They didn't have anyone booked while we were there. Kenny the CM working the desk told us they would still do it if there were just the two of us, can you imagine how awesome that would be:D

Hi mirlow,

I'm glad you had such a nice time.Thankyou for the reviews, especially the WL one :magnify:

We are booking our vacation soon, which will include a first time stay at WL. I love reading about that resort.

What a great trip report ,mirlow!
You chose two wonderful resorts to stay at also!
And congrats on your upgrades!
What super CMs!
Nice to read such a positive report after reading so much negative here today on the boards, regarding CMs and inferior rooms!

And WCC is a HOOT!!!:bounce:

We are looking forward to our 4th AKL concierge experience next month!
Andrea, in concierge planning, told us the same thing you were told when I booked our Sunset Safari.
Kenny the CM working the desk told us they would still do it if there were just the two of us, can you imagine how awesome that would be

I called to check on some PMs the other day, and I asked how many had booked the safari, and she said that another couple had cancelled, and there was only the two of us booked!
But, she assured me that they would still do the safari with just DH and me!:earseek:
Whoa! Talk about pampering!
That would be awesome!

Again, thanks for your time to post your reviews on these resorts!

Glad you had such a nice stay!!

Quick question, are the rooms at WL & AKL basically the "same" except for the decoration. (same size, layout, etc.)

wow - we were told they needed a minimum of 4 to do the Wanyama (Sunset) safari. Very cool though!

My DH - ckj - just posted our trip report on it - see it here if you like.

And it's Kenny a GREAT CM? We just met him for the first time on our 1/23 through 1/28 stay. Really nice guy to talk to!

Kimberle-
We had a standard room at the WL and then moved to a deluxe room at the AKL. The deluxe room had a queen bed, bunkbeds and a day bed. We enjoyed having a bit more space at the AKL. I have never been in a standard room at the AKL, but I can tell you that when you first walked into our room on the right was where the connecting door was, unlike the WL where there is a dresser drawer. I used that area to put a suitcase. The bathrooms are similar, but the AKL had more shelves around the sink for storage. I hope this helps.
