Hack for taking spare flip flops into parks.

Hurricanes aside, we know FL is known for passing showers. For this reason I like to take a pair of flip flops/sneakers into the park (I also find switching shoe types mid-day keeps my feet happy).
For this trip I didn't pack any plastic bags. So I used the bags that the WDW resort, in-room cups were wrapped in to stuff my shoes into, before putting them in my backpack. Then, mid-day, when putting my already used shoes into my backpack, I have the baggies to slip the dirty shoes into.
I had scissors that I used to carefully cut the cup bags open at the very top, preserving as much of the bag as possible.
I'm a shoe size 6. This probably will only work up to a certain shoe size and shoe type. But certainly will work for kid's shoes.

We stayed in CBR last week. There were no bags in our trashcans and no laundry bag in the room. Only one bag for the ice bucket and that wasn't replaced once we used it. Cut-backs, I suppose.
I was on my way out of the room for the day and thought of this quickly. Was faster than waiting for someone to deliver bags + I liked the way the bags were like "sleeves", fitting right over the shoes with no extra plastic to be bunched up and taking up space inside my backpack. ::yes:: :thumbsup2

Good idea to bring some spare plastic (grocery) bags in your luggage. I usually wrap my shoes/sandals in my luggage in a plastic bags to keep any spare bits of dirt/sand from getting into my clothes.

I always have at least a few plastic grocery bags in each of my luggage and backpacks.

I'm from NJ and we don't get grocery bags anymore 😢 (really miss them!) But yes, I *USUALLY* pack a few plastic bags of one sort or another , but this time I didn't. I figured I'd share this hack for others who find themselves in my situation.

If you know anyone who gets newspapers delivered to their house, they might be willing to save the plastic sleeves. My friends save them for me and I use them as dog poop bags and to put flip flops in when I’m traveling. Also good for the environment to reuse them! I’m also in a no plastic bag state as well. I miss them because I used them as trash bags.

Yes, I used to reuse them to scoop cat litter into and also for garbage bags. When my kids were in diapers I saved the newspaper bags for their diapers (this was before Diaper Genie). Unfortunately I don't know anyone who still gets a newspaper delivered. This "hack" was a spur of the moment idea that I thought some might find helpful if they forget to pack bags from home, like I did for this trip.

I’m in New York and plastic bags are a thing of the past. The store around the corner from me, though, sells a bundle of them for $6. They also sell them on Amazon. They have compostable ones too. They’re not cheap, but they are super handy for situations like this.

I think I’d just take the shoe bag from my packing cubes set to put extra shoes in. It’s reusable and also keep things clean.

Regardless of HOW you do it, it is critical to have a spare set of footwear. It's up to you if you bring both pairs into the parks or not (we don't)

I've had those trips where all I've had are my hiking sandals combined with too much rain. It made for an uncomfortable experience, both on my feet and on our noses. I never have smelly feet at home but give it a couple of days in the same damp footwear and you could make a skunk raise an eyebrow. We also bring foot spray now just in case.

Another cheap hack is to go on Amazon and buy a bunch of the old fashioned plastic shower caps. I use them to cover shoes when I pack, and I keep a spare or two in my purse/work bag in case it rains - then I can use it to cover my hair so it doesn't turn into a frizzy mess! I think I bought a pack of 100 for about $6. They are very small to carry, takes up almost zero space.
