H1N1 vaccine - has your child gotten it yet?

If we didnt get sick (I mean SICK!!!!) from the shots I think we'd be getting this shot.

Do you get sick from all shots? Just flu shots? You said "we." Does your whole family get sick? Any idea why?

Well regular old table salt isn't good for us. Mercury isn't good for us either nor is Splenda. Well, I don't believe any of that is good for me or my family.

When I was pregnant with my now 4yr old ds I received the flu shot, I worked for a dr at the time and thought it was in my best interest to get one. I ended up sick for almost 3mo with respirtory problems and my ds has eczema, allergies and cold-induced asthma. He also had the flu shot at 6mo and 18mo (not since because he's been diagnosed with egg allergy), the MMR and the chicken pox vaccine. He is allergic to eggs and his Allergist said no to the flu shot and his Ped said yes. In the state of Pennsylvania you can refuse vaccinations based on a religious belief or a strong moral or ethical conviction, the latter of which nobody likes to talk about so you are led to believe that if you don't have a health matter that prevents you from getting vaccinated or a religious belief that you must be vaccinated to be in school and that's just not true.

My mom works at Miami Children's Hospital. She is good friends with a doctor who specializes in infectious disease, and he she asked him the other day what he thought about the vaccine. He said that H1N1 is much more similar to the regular seasonal flu than many people think, and though the vaccine is new, nothing in it is incredibly alarming. He said 100% for sure, his healthy kids are getting it.

Me and two of my (3) kids kids get sick as dogs (deffo worse with the kids than me.). No idea why. The docs advise us to try it again to "make sure" but it happened three years in a row and seemed to be worse each time. That was good enough for me. My older adult son gets the shots with no trouble, as well as my hubby.

Wow! How bizarre. Obviously there is something in there that you guys are allergic to. Any chance you guys are allergic to eggs? My son is so he has never been able to get an influenza shot.

I get sick from the seasonal flu shot as well - I'm very, very sensitive to even the simplest of medications - but not sick enough that I would refuse to get it.. The alternative for me would be much, much worse..

Typically what happens (aside from the very sore arm), is that within a few hours I will start to have nausea, then diarrhea - followed by muscle aches and really bad chills - just can't get warm enough.. Usually only lasts for 24 to 48 hours though, so I'm willing to deal with it.. (No egg allergies here..) I'm just very sensitive to drugs..

Well here's a weird tid bit.... I get sick from store bought eggs, but after I finally tried an egg from our own chickens... I dont get sick from those! I am left to assume its an antibiotic or hormone that the chickens get. Funny enogh, I have allergies to several antibiotics. I dont know for sure, this is more of a "Mom's Best Guess" LOL!

The first time, we thought the injection site got a germ into it (happens sometimes with injections). But it's happened again every year since then. She does have several chronic health issues, so could be sensitivity due to high-alert immune system.

Oddly enough though, when my adult DD get her seasonal flu shot on Friday, they actually "told" her that her arm would be sore, she might not feel well for 24 hours or so, might have some muscle aches, and possibly a temp or the chills..

She had the sore arm right away - and Friday night she had the chills really bad - but other than that, she's fine..

Ok, do not tell us what day exactly if you dont have the vaccine.

No. At first I thought I was misunderstanding it. Then tonight the automated school line calls and tells us to refer the the city school's website. Sure enough, here are the dates for the afterschool h1n1 shot clinics from tomorrow until November 3.

And the automated message was saying we can get our kids shot at these certain places-other schools and times from 4-8 pm.

I dont know what the reasoning is. Do they think that people won't show up for the afterschool shot clinics?

I do know that the afterschool clinic has the vaccine injection, so maybe the during school clinics were going to have the mist.

That;s what I'm saying: the shot is still going to make your immune system kick in (It had BETTER!!!) Youri immune system causes fever/chills/etc. But what she didn't have was influenza (there was none in the shot alive and able to replicate).

My teens got the mist at the Pediatricians this morning. In and out in 5 minutes. Our insurance had no copay for the administration of it either. Hope it works!

The schools will be offering it here, sent the forms home yesterday, but they don't know when. I don't want to leave my kids health in their hands if I don't have to. The health dept has the mist and the shots this week too.

I'll cut them some slack as they have no control of when the shot will be available. Our school system is sending out notices about the possibility of in school shots to get feedback on who would do it. Our state is only allowing the shot to be given to 2-4 yr. olds right now and older kids will hopefully be eligible in November.

DS4 got his shot yesterday. FWIW, I'm not one to get me or the kids seasonal flu shots and our pediatrician has never encouraged it. He is encouraging H1N1 however, so I will go with the pro's advice.
